We went down this past weekend for the Night Of Joy concerts. We stayed at the Polynesian, which was really nice, but boy does DVC spoil you!

Now for the observation, we went to DHS for the day and noticed a family of 5 sitting in front of us at the Indiana Jones show. It was around 11:20 am. The dad was carrying a gallon jug of chocolate milk and they were passing it between the 5 of them. Which was a little odd. But even more strange was when we saw them after the 1:20 pm show of Lights, Motors, still carrying the jug.

It was just kind of funny and thought you folks might get a laugh.

That milk must have been warm by the time you saw them the second time. Yuck! Not to mention the fact that I don't believe milk shouldn't remain unrefrigerated for that long....

Funny you should mention that DVC spoils us. I've been sitting here this morning planning my call for our Aug '11 trip and have had the "I'm missing something" feeling going on... I've never stayed at the Poly, Contemporary (although did like BLT) or Grand Floridian. So I'm thinking... I'd really love to book a normal hotel stay at one of these, providing I can get a decent discount. I'll bank our points - might be a smart move right?

Then I read your post and your second line brought back vivid memories of us moving from our 1br VWL unit over to the WL "woods view" bunkbed room a few years back. How I hated that room, and it wasn't just because we were all down with the flu and I was the only one moving the luggage. The view was of the metal rooftop looking toward the busstop and the room was so crowded - much more so than even a studio. DVC does spoil us :goodvibes

Well, Thanks for helping me to decide - planning a 1br Savanna view at Kidani :yay:

... as for the milk story... YUCK! That family must have some tough stomachs to drink that without getting ill.

I have a hard core rule about NO drink sharing. Somebody always seems to come down with some sort of virus or something at WDW, and if we were sharing drinks we would ALL be sick.

Drinking warm milk is bad enough. Taking swigs of warm milk out of the family jug? Gross. Even if they were pouring it in cups, 2 hours without refrigeration is supposed to be the max for dairy products. In the heat I would think it might be less. Yuck, yuck, yuck.

Ewwww! Warm milk? Yuck! How was Night of Joy since it returned to MK? We were staying at BLT and on our last night I was awoken at 3:00 am to the sound of a beating drum---they were doing sound checks cause NOJ was that day (Friday). I opened the sliding door and heard the music too. Wondered what it would of sounded like that night. Hope you had a good time.

Sharing warm chocolate milk...bleccckkkk!!!!

How was Night of Joy this year? We went about 3 years ago and had a blast. The only downside was it was ssooooo humid. I couldn't stop sweating. We made it through Mercy Me's third song and had to go. It was just too humid.

Thanks for the nice replies. Night of Joy was an experience. The music was just amazing. We were able to get up really, really close for Third Day which is the whole reason we decided to go. I dont' know what I was expecting but it was ALOT of standing.

The back story to the trip is that we were celebrating our 20th wedding aniversary, but about 3 weeks before the trip my DH got a new job assingment and was not able to go. So a good friend from church and her son joined me and one of my DS. My other DS wanted to stay home for his baseball games since DH was not going.

Back to NOJ, the crowds were too much for me. Which is saying something since we go Easter week every year. I do not want to sound like a middle-aged grump, but the roaming packs of teens were just too much for me. They weren't mean and horrible just being teens (two levels loud and louder).

It was pretty funny hearing my DS 10 and my friend's son 11, complain about the way the teens were acting. We wished we could record their comments and play them back for them in a few years. Because I'm certain they will act just as goofy.

Oh and the weather, my goodness that humidity was something else. I have never sweated so much without exercising, unless you count standing still as exercise.

BLLB - sorry it was so humid, I live in Florida and its been more humid this past week than it was all summer. Its almost unbearable to be outside. Glad to hear the concert was good though.

Twinklebug - you reminded me of a stay we had last year. We actually WON a free 3 night stay in a savannah view bunk bed room from that Last Minute Travel contest last year. We used it for our annual Xmas trip. Our kids were thrilled with the bunk beds, us - not so much. They made the room feel so small and we actually missed the pull out sofa. Our kids sleep fine on that, and it frees up so much space. We said never again to a regular Disney hotel, unless of course its free again. But like I said, even free we were not happy with it!

Ahh memories! Your comments made me remember the teens. Loud...running in and out...standing in packs in the middle of walkways texting. From what I hear, cast members absolutely hate working Night of Joy because of the teens.

You're right, it is a lot of standing especially when waiting for that one special band (for us Casting Crowns) which you know is probably one of the last bands of the evening. At one point I laid on my back on the asphalt (which I would never do unless desperate) in front of the Castle thinking that I would gain some relief. WRONG! I forgot that that asphalt absorbs all of that Florida heat during the day and is still quite hot even at 9:30.

Night of Joy is great and we would do it again in a heartbeat but as my dear mama says, "it will make you think unChristian things". :lmao:

On several occassions, i have seen families eating bologna sandwiches in Frontierland overlooking the riverboat. It reminds me of simpler times that my family enjoyed back in the 1970s.

On another occassion, I recall seeing a woman bragging that she had saved a boatload of cash by bringing a cooler and staying in a room for $29.95 / night.

I personally think I would have liked the family with sandwiches, but not the braggart.

The jug of milk is kind of funny!

My Mom used to try to fill a thermas with milk and ice. Yuck! - the milk was still good...but watery!!!!

Somehow this really made me chuckle. It reminds me of the long thread years ago about the family sharing a can of corn (creamed corn, I think) in MK. Anyone else remember that one? Corn and chocolate milk.

Warm chocolate milk...yum, yum!

This ranks right up with the time we saw a family enjoying a picnic meal in Fantasyland. They had a family size box of Popeye's Fried Chicken with all the fixin's. That wasn't the weird part. It turned strange when the family, after finishing their meal, all went and washed their hands in the fountain outside of Pinochio's Village Haus.

You saw us???!!!!! :scared1: I didn't think anyone was looking. AAhhhh...ummmm...that wasn't really Popeye's Chicken...ummmm...DW has a purse made to look like a Popeye's box...Yeah!...ummm...that was actually baked goods we bought from the Main Street Bakery.

And the fountain thing...hmmmm...we were actually making wishes and didn't want to splash anyone so instead of throwing our money in the fountain we were all gently placing it in the water. :littleangel:

Oh gross! Warm Chocolate Milk...yuck!

A couple of weeks ago, while on Living with the Land with my sister and her kids. My nephew noticed the family seated in front of us on the boat...the mother was making ham and cheese sandwiches and handing them to her kids and husband right there. Well...my nephew is the "no flash photography" police and since it was allowed on this ride...all of a sudden became the food police and says to the family. "You can't make sandwiches and eat them on this ride!"

Sis and I didn't know what to do...we tried to redirect his attention to dragon fruit growing in the sand. The family did not turn around thankfully.

I guess you get hungry on that ride =)

Thanks for clearing that up for me, I went all these years thinking I saw something strange. Glad to know it was just a normal, everyday thing!

No problem at all! We all make mistakes. If you ever see us in the parks again, come over and say hello. We'll probably have extra chicken we'll share. Oops! I mean a cinnamon bun! ;)

:) DH and I saw a Mom feeding her Younglings sandwiches outside of BTMR one year. I thought, "that is probably the only way they can do this expensive type of vacation". Kids were quite happy and well behaved eating...aaahhhhh, the memories of those long car trips in the 70's, my brother and I fighting over who was getting more air conditioning from the front seat.....my sweet Father just slapping at anything that moved in our backseat because we were being pests. He would scream..."****it, if ya'll would just sit there quietly, EVERYONE WILL GET SOME AIR!! :rotfl2: Disney was always just too expensive so my first trip wasn't until I was 34. It was such a joy sharing WDW with Mom and Dad for our first trip together in 2008 ..in 2011 they will be joinging us for their first DVC stay on our points.

The chocolate milk for some realson to me is better than sharing orange juice.
