Ok, so I grew up in Sacramento. Everyone called it "Sac-a-tomatoes." When my husband flies to Las Vegas, it is referred to as "Lost Wages." We live in New Hampshire, and I hear people say "New Hampster."

So, what funny nicknames of states and cities do you know?

My family refers to the state I live in as Minne-snow-ta.

I use New Hamster myself. Can't forget Taxachusetts!

My boss calls Nashua (NH) 'Nashvegas.'

I call New Jersey 'New Joizey', but I know that isn't original. New York is 'New Jerk.'

Okay, I have a problem. I have nicknames for everything.

I grew up in Lancaster and we called it LA (Lancaster Area)

When video poker payouts were legal there was a section of our town near the state line full of these gaudy looking places with neon and colorful awnings. Locals called it 'Fort Vegas' instead of Fort Mill.

South/North Carolina-- South/North Cackalacky

I grew up in Albany GA and I stil call it AGONY GA!!!

My DH is from southern CA and calls Los Angeles, Smog Angeles and Anaheim, Anaslime. The LA one I get, but Anaheim at least used to be nice, so I think it was more just a silly nickname that teenagers gave their home town.

well...i was born and raised in Taxachusetts!

We have always been and will always be WEST-by-god-Virginia ! Have to do something for all the poor uneducated folks that find out where I'm from and say, "Oh, I have a cousin in Richmond." :badpc: :teeth:

Some of DH's family (they are from all over the place) think we live in 'Carolina'- no notation of North and South. There is a difference between the two.

After an incident where an adult get together was raided by the police and participants were arrested for spanking each other, my hometown in "Taxachusetts" became known as "Paddleboro"

The town next to me, Johnston, is known as "fun city" because of the number of adult entertainment venues that it used to have

I'm from Friendswood and call it..."The Friendly Woods". (I know, not very original! )

I am originally from Ohio and a bunch of kids in college used to refer to Cincinatti as Cincitucky or Cincinasty.
