Funny anesthesia story

Background: A few years ago DH and I and our teens went to an info meeting about the Service Academies. Representatives from each academy got up and gave a spiel. The Coast Guard Academy person repeated over and over and OVER that you don't need a congressional appointment for the CGA. It became kind of a family joke after that.

Anyway, I had a medical test today, and was put under. After I was out, DH and the nurse were chatting about how one of her sons had applied at the CGA. And I, in my sleep, said, "You don't need a congressional appointment for the Coast Guard Academy!"

I have absolutely no recollection of this at all, but apparently my brain was alert enough to understand their conversation and bring up that important tidbit of information!

(BTW, it turns out I have a teeny tiny hole in my heart. It's called a PFO, which has been linked to chronic migraines. It can be fixed by going through a vein in the leg, in an outpatient procedure. Isn't modern technology amazing?)

I'm not saying your doctor is wrong, but a friend of mine "supposedly" had a hole in his heart. He had two tests done by the same doctor, and he actually didn't. He went to another doctor. He went into surgery to have it fixed, but it actually wasn't there.

Great story! Thanks for sharing.

And it's cool that they found an answer for your migraines. Are you going to have the procedure done?

A few years ago the daughter of a family friend had her wisdom teeth out. I am not sure what kind of anesthesia they used on her but she swore up and down there were deer in the recovery room.

I think that I recall hearing about this before. My DDs' get migraines and I am always trying to learn more about them. I think that if the migraines ever got debilitating for them (like it sounds like yours are), that this would be something that I would suggest that they look in to.

Good luck to you!

Good luck with the headaches! The reason you were coherent enough is that you were just sedated and not put under a general anesthestic. Enough to relax you and keep you still, but not enough to shut out the world!

Lintasare - That also would just be a sedative. They can make you pretty loopy!

maybe she DID!!

was it near Christmas?

That's awesome OP. :rotfl2: Makes me laugh. The only thing I remember from my multiple anesthesia experiences was from the first time when I was five. I could swear to god that the doctors were singing me a doo-wop song. Now keep in mind, being 5 I didn't know what doo-wop was, only figured out that's what it was later. Someone suggested that maybe they were playing doo-wop in the operating room when I was coming out of it. :scratchin
