We will be staying in Formosa Gardens for our trip in November. I was looking at the satellite pictures of the roads in the area scoping out the Sherberth Rd shortcut and saw Funie Steed Rd. It looks like it would be faster to turn right onto Funie Steed from Formosa Gardens Blvd, go to Entry Point Blvd, and then cross over 192 to Sherberth Rd. However, it looks like Funie Steed is a dirt road for about 1/2 mile in that area. Not sure that I want to take a rental car on a dirt road. Has anyone driven this before? Is this a viable shortcut or should we just take Formosa Gardens Blvd to 192 and follow 192 to Sherberth Rd?

We use this road every time we visit. Sometimes it's a bit bumpy but then they fix it again. I only visit once a year so I'm no expert but there's vehicles in this area all the time. It's only like a quarter of a mile. We will be there in 23 days. Whoo hoo!! I can't wait.

The only thing is most rental car agreements do not allow you to drive on unpaved roads so check your paperwork in case of a problem. We looked at the west end of Funie Steed last week -this is also unpaved but with the rain the road had huge puddles and holes in it .

Hi, Wanda must have much better shocks than I!!!!
This is what we in Iowa call a "washboard" road and can be a real teeth rattler! Also, I have had nightmares about trying to stay way right away from the washboards and getting stuck up to my axels in sand.
We have our own cars there in the winter and every year I have to try it again...and then swear I will never do that again!!!
Rental cars equal a different mindset...just hang on to your dentures!!!

Enjoy...Ted

Good point. I'll make sure that I check the rental agreement.

The dirt track also gets very slippery when wet, so can be quite dangerous if you go too fast

Me, drive like a Road Warrior? (Looks innocent) :lmao:

DH was raised in Northern Wisconsin on a dirt road, so this would be old home week for him. I guess we'll just have to check and see how it looks when we get there.

Also, can you get to the new Super Target on Funie Steed? The Google satellite map is old and doesn't show the new store, so I can't tell if there is access from Funie Steed or not. Or do you have to approach it from 192?

 Sometimes it's more washboardy than others. I've seen it as smooth as paving but also like a washboard. I live on a dirt road here and we have potholes when it's bad so I guess it's all what you're accustom to.

Well said Wanda...
You do a great job on these boards. Your info is always right on...

Hope you get to the World soon...Ted

The new Super Target is the other way on the 192 - left at the traffic lights at the end of Formosa Blvd, and it is a little way down on the left, so no need to take on the dirt track:lmao:
