hope all are getting excited my kids are see all soon, and thanks for all the help so far. cant wait to talk to you all.

Didn't see anyone topless on my last cruise, and I wouldn't want to. I'm guessing you've never cruised Disney before, or you would know that you can see the adult pool from other places on the boat that children would be able to see it.

We are planning a cruise in Oct. I was wondering on the adult deck is it ok if i go topless. I know it a family ship but was wondering if grownups could do that any help would be great thanks.

There really isn't an "adult deck" on the Disney ships. There are adult areas--adult nightclubs, the spa, Palo, the adult pool area. I'd guess the only one you'd want to be topless on in that list is the adult pool area---but the deck that is above and around the adult pool area is open for any aged person. I do know there are cruise ships that have adult only sunbathing areas that are more secluded from view. Don't know any off the top of my head, but I do know I've heard about them here on the DIS before.

I don't think that it would be allowed...like the previous person stated...even though it is an adults only area, children and others can still see the area very well. No offense, but I certainly hope this wouldn't be allowed on a cruise like this. :bitelip:

Slightly off topic, but just had to share. When we were at Blizzard Beach, there was on woman walking around with a thong bathing suit on.
As in dental floss thong :earseek: She sure was getting the stares.

I didn't catch what language she was speaking, surely not English. Maybe at EuroDisney this stuff is ok, but thought it was inappropriate for a disney water park, just too many kids' around.

I sunbathed topless the WHOLE sailing......but then again I'm a guy. :rotfl2: LOL We've been on 4 sailings and the only "topless" place I saw was St. Maarteen on our 03 Eastern sailing. I've been looking though.....

Topless would definitely not be allowed at the adult pool.

Topless in St. Maarten on the French beaches (such as Orient Bay) is acceptable. As well as bottomless -- yick....that wasn't fun to see!!!

Okay - I have to ask, and I am far from being a liberal. But what is up with this board and the human body in the natural state??? Why are parents so concerned about their children seeing topless women? For example, Orient Beach on St. Maarten, there will be naked people, this will not scar children for life. I think we are one of the few nations with this hangup of the naked body. Doesn't most of Europe have co-ed bathrooms, topless or nude beaches, etc. Now, don't get me wrong, there is a big difference between someone sunbathing topless and lewd behavior. I am by no means condoning lewd behavior. And I am by no means that it would be acceptable to walk around a DCL ship topless. I don't know, I spent many vacations on the beaches of St. Maarten, topless was the norm, some naked, (I don't partake), just looked at it as thats what people do. My kids now 5 and 12, same thing, they see the naked people doing their morning walks, they don't even bat an eye. We don't parade around the house nude, but we don't want the kids to think the body is something to hid and be ashamed of either. I think the parents seem to make more of a big deal out of it. As far as thongs, I think they look totally ridiculous, but to each his own. When going to Portugal (spent a month there), most women were in two piece bathing suits, whether they were 100 pounds or 400 pounds. They weren't there to impress anything, that is just what they wear to the beach!

I don't see a problem with it either but, I think it should be "posted"...private area for those not wanting to see....When we took the Golden Eagle catamaran and beached it we were told.....snorkle that way and you may end up at the "clothes optional" part of the beech. Can you guess which way I went? :earseek:

When in Rome, do as the Romans...assuming you wish to, that is.

As a Canadian soon to be sailing on a very much "American" ship, I would not expect to see any topless females onboard as it is generally not accepted in North America. I do expect to see the odd thong now and then though as I have on the beaches of both California and Hawaii. Thongs are indeed worn by some Canadian and US citizens. I would only hope the thong wearers would have the courtesy of doing so away from large concentrations of kids/young teens.

But as a non-resident of St. Maarten, I'm in no position to judge how they sunbathe or how people sunbathe while there. If it bothers me, then I need to be/go elsewhere. We have no business imposing our culture/values on another country.

As for the relationship between language and how one's dresses, I would like to point out that despite my very English name, I am very much French speaking. But that doesn't mean I go topless at home or abroad.

I don't think the Disney cruise would be the best place to go topless since the ship's adult pool isn't set up for that as I have seen on other ships. Ie. RCCL, Carnival. They have a "topless area" that is on the highest level on the ship with a gated stairwell and everything.

I agree that we should not be afraid of the human body and have been to Orient Beach. It's acceptable there and everyone seemed to care less if one was clothed or not. I'm afraid that would not be the case on a Disney Cruise, even if no one would say anything to you.

I'm on an Oct cruise too but doubt I'll ever get away from the kiddie pool

If nothing else it would give the kids some memories! lol I remember being a teenager (and I'm well past one now), visiting my brother in Arizona and we went for a hike and ended up in a clothing optional sunbathing area. Thankfully we didn't stay, but I'll have to say that stands out as one of my most memorable memories from childhood. That and streaking around the neighborhood with a new neighbor (her idea, I guess it wasn't so uncommon where she'd moved from), but I was only about 5yo. My clothes were on in a flash when my mother saw me.

I would expect for people to keep their clothes on when on a Disney cruise, though.

I think they look painful  - don't know how they wear them. I know that I couldn't, and you all are very very grateful of that!! ::yes::
and how can you :dancer: in one - ouch again!!

There's a time and a place for everything.
Here in America, if you see a topless lady out on the beach, you automatically assume sex, or at least I do because that's the way I was brought up (I attended Catholic school). Naked = Sex
But I've always taken showers with my girls so I could wash their long hair when they were young and they've grown used to seeing me naked. But that is in our home.

As for kids seeing Naked People, it is funny, I have to say.

Me, my husband and two kids and sister/brother in law and their two kids as well as my father in law were on his boat out in the Great South Bay. The kids were swimming around the boat and having fun. We were just hanging out on the boat watching them. We were parked close to shore.
Just then, my brother in law said, hey dad, where's your binoculars?
Dad found them for him and he nonchalantly started looking ALL around the bay, like he was just looking, hoping not to attract attention from his wife.

And then he was focusing on shore. ;) Then my father in law said, hey, Danny, give me those binoculars, and then I started to wonder, what was so interesting? By that time the kids were back on the boat and they saw something too. :earseek:

I am always the last one to get it, you know? The kids start singing, I see your heiny, it's nice and shiny....and just laughing and giggling. Then I saw it:
A Naked Girl onshore getting a tan on one of the private beaches! She was about 100 yards away from us. It was sooooooo obvious she was giving the men a show, you know, by flipping her hair and thrusting her chest up to the sky...She looked and acted like she was on a Playboy photo shoot.

It was very, very funny. The men thoroughly enjoyed it, the kids thought it was hysterical and me and my sister in law were also amused.

But when I'm in a Disney State Of Mind with my kids, the last thing I want to think of is sex.
Sex is plastered all over the place: In commercials, on tv shows, in movies, in magazines, in the music - what is sad is that a lot of this is aimed at young kids, KIDS!!!
That is why I get so angry. Kids are innocent for only a certain amount of time. So if you put Naked=Sex + Disney, I say it = Disappointment.

I still think Disney is still pretty pure. I have heard all the innuendo that Disney puts into the movies, but I don't look for it.

But that is just my opinion.

thank you all for the help yes first cruise, i was just wondering, sorry if i got people upset. but again THANK YOU ALL. :sunny:

No Mistake, Joeanne, I'm sure you posed it as a legitimate question and you'll never know the answer unless you ask :flower:

Joeanne, my husband wants to know if we can change our cruise date to your cruise. He say's that :rolleyes1 he would not mind you tanning topless at all!
