Fun, Sun, and Mickey Mouse! An August 2009 TR...new 11/19 p. 34

Now that you said the cloud was Dumbo, I can totally see it! :)

The boat ride pictures are so pretty! I've never been on one of the boats from MK to any of the resorts - I def have to now!

Can't wait to hear about EMH at Hollywood Studios!

Ok I can see Dumbo now, but originally I saw roger rabbit. Is this like one of those ink blot tests? what does that say about me? Lol

Love the pics of the boat ride! The sky looks gorgeous :cloud9:

Riding TT at night sounds really cool, minus the lightning of course! :goodvibes

Isn't the Villas pool so nice and quiet compared to the main pool?! That's another reason why we loved staying there!

Oh my gosh, poor kid! :sad2:

Ugh, I don't miss that TT line! :lmao:

It was really nice! I love how you can even admire the theming there with all the trees surrounding you and the little springs that are in the pool. Man I wish I was still there now! :guilty:

It's amazing how TT still is so popular after all these years.

I was behind three installments!:scared1: But, I am all caught up now. Believe it or not, I actually picked Dumbo for the Disney character cloud!:woohoo:

Looking forward to reading more!

Lisa

Yay, glad you're all caught up! That is funny you thought the cloud looked like Dumbo. I wish I had a prize to give you.

haha, I kind of figured it would either look totally obvious after I revealed it or some people would just think we were nuts. Glad some people can see Dumbo in that cloud!

Yes, definitely go on the boats...they are so peaceful.

Ok I can see Dumbo now, but originally I saw roger rabbit. Is this like one of those ink blot tests? what does that say about me? Lol

LOL. Yes, let's make our own version of the ink blot test...who do you see in the clouds...what kind of Disney fan does that make you? haha!

Love the pics of the boat ride! The sky looks gorgeous :cloud9:

Luckily we didn't see the lightning when we were on the ride. I wonder if they had to close down at all that night. :confused3

August 20, 2009...part 5

We took the boat back to the Wilderness Lodge for a little break and to get out of the sun for a while. We couldn’t wait to jump in the pool and cool off. It was funny because on the boat ride back Dad spotted another Disney cloud that he said looked like Minnie. Hehe! The lady in front of us overheard and said she could see it too. Sorry, no picture of that one but Emma got a bunch from the ride back.

When we got back we walked past the main pool which turned out to be pretty crowded.

6289_1147270054359_1605780003_30581593_6395404_n.jpg

So we ended up deciding to just go to the quiet pool near the villas. We went back to the room, quickly changed into our suits, and headed to the pool which was called Hidden Springs Pool (or something along those lines). It was neat because there were little springs in the pool that kind of bubbled. Even though the water was pretty warm it was still refreshing. After half an hour or so we went back to the room, took a quick shower and decided to head over to Epcot. Epcot was having PM EMH that night so we were hoping to be able to get on Test Track and possibly Soarin (yeah right!). So we headed out to the bus stop.
6289_1147270094360_1605780003_30581594_7511653_n.jpg

Here’s an interesting story from the bus: when we got on, there was this little boy, maybe 7 or 8 years old who was getting on in a wheelchair. I was really confused as to why he needed a wheelchair—he didn’t really look like he needed one. Then I noticed his foot was all wrapped up. As we were driving along I overheard his dad telling some other people how they were at Epcot earlier that day. I think the dad said he was trying to get Soarin fastpasses when all of a sudden he hears this scream. Turns out somebody in one of those ECVs RAN OVER THE BOY’S FOOT! Apparently it was an older man and he obviously felt horrible about it but how sad is that?! What made it worse was the poor kid was wearing one of those “first visit” buttons. I felt so bad for that kid. :(

Anyways, we arrived at Epcot, went through the bag check and headed to Future World. The obligatory SSE shot:

6289_1147270134361_1605780003_30581595_2434253_n.jpg

We were curious to see if the park would be like the MK or if it would be more crowded because of EMH. Some of the Future World attractions had pretty short waits but Soarin had over 100 minute wait. No surprise there, so we’d have to do it some other time. It also seemed like there were more people around than there were at the Magic Kingdom. So our first stop was the Electric Umbrella for some dinner. I like it there, but does anyone remember the old restaurant that used to be there (I think it was called Pasta Piazza) where you could get pizza and pasta? I kind of miss that…it was pretty good. After grabbing some burgers and sandwiches we decided to walk over to Test Track.
6289_1147270174362_1605780003_30581596_5704467_n.jpg

The wait was 40 minutes and since we had just finished eating we didn’t mind. But right after we got in line it jumped to 80 minutes so we decided to get in the single riders line instead, which was still 40 minutes. We had never done single rider before but it ended up working out pretty well. Some shots from inside the queue:
self-portrait...bleh.
5210_604908336884_20305212_35615443_3120180_n.jpg

5210_604908341874_20305212_35615444_1987720_n.jpg

They were using one of the briefing rooms just for the single riders so I think one group of people went in before us. There were also a few times when they would just load an entire car with single riders. Emma and I ended up in the same car. So it was kind of neat because it was getting dark by the time we got on and we’d never ridden Test Track at night. In the end it took us about half an hour to get through which wasn’t bad.

When we got off there was some pretty crazy lightning out in the distance…good thing we got out of Test Track when we did! It never did end up raining though. Since it had been a long day we were starting to get tired. On the way out we stopped in Mouse Gear to look around and scope out any souvenir ideas.
5210_604908346864_20305212_35615445_6862264_n.jpg

I read in one of my Celebrations magazines that the old Dream machine from the original Journey Into Imagination was in the store so I pointed that out to Dad. Still miss that version…

While we were in the store we tried on some hats:
6289_1147270214363_1605780003_30581597_359421_n.jpg

As we wandered around some more Emma spotted the display of the Vinylmation Mickeys. I had seen some stuff online about it so I explained it a little bit to her. I was really surprised when she said she wanted to get one—I thought for sure she’d think they were stupid! I wanted to get one too but the problem with them is that they’re sold in blind boxes so you don’t know what you’re going to get. But we still really wanted one! There were 3 different sets so we decided to go with the clear one—that set was just a bunch of different colored Mickeys (think giant gummy bear-style Mickeys!) so we figured we’d be happy with whichever one we got. They were all pretty cute! So we each picked out a box and were both excited and a little nervous about opening them. haha When we got to the bus stop we decided to open them up. I went first and got a blue Mickey. YAY! Then Emma opened hers and she got a red one. Needless to say we were both satisfied. And thus the addiction was born (you were right Colleen!)! Leave it to me to pick out the most pointless souvenirs. What can I say, I am a sucker for anything cute. :cutie:

After a few minutes our bus pulled up and ohhhh boy, the windows were literally covered in water. When we got on the bus it was FREEZING! It was sooooo cold. Everyone was pretty much hugging themselves or each other to try to keep warm…it was that cold. The driver said if he turned the AC down the bus would get really hot really fast. It actually felt good getting off at the WL even though it was still so warm outside.

So that brings us to the end of our arrival day. I think we might’ve gone to the store to pick up some cereal and milk for the room before going to bed. But we needed to get some rest since we’d be getting up early again the next morning…

Up next: Extra Magic Hours at Hollywood Studios!

That's ashame for that poor young guy! I totally had a feeling it was the vinylmations! :goodvibes I looked at them and thought they were really cool and would be great collectibles if I had a place to put them! I was going to buy one just to see which I got but I knew I would be hooked! :rotfl:so I chose not to! there's always december for me though! :scared1: haha. I love the quite pools at the Villas especially late at night.

That pool sounds cute with the bubbling springs!! Poor kid :( what a sad way to spend your first trip to Disney!

TT is fun at night and the single rider line is always a good way to go. I loveeee MouseGears! I think that is the best store in WDW besides for the one in DTD. I am ashamed not to know, but what is vinylmation?!

I'm here, great first day!!! Sounds great. I love the crowd level at the MK, very nice! It was more crowded than that in May!

Can't wait to see how the rest of your August trip went, I may be able to pick up on some ideas on how to stay cool! Or, at least on how not to pass out!!:goodvibes

Love your latest update and the pictures! Did you go swimming in the main pool at all while you were there? We went one day and had a lot of fun. At one point, there were 13 ducks in the pool w/ us. So cute! Oh, and why was I the ONLY adult w/o a kid going down the slide? :lmao: Aaron refused to ride it with me. I didn't care. I still rode it at least 10 times. I'm such a sucker for pool slides. :rotfl2:

LOL, yup and the fact that I briefly mentioned something about the vinylmations in my PTR. Dad thought we were crazy for buying them. OH WELL!

I loved the pool. There was also a hot tub kind of tucked away too which was cool.

I think we are going to have to keep single riders in mind again...we actually ended up doing it again on our Epcot day! Nah, don't be ashamed about not knowing what vinylmation is. It's pretty new from what I understand. Basically it's just these little plastic Mickey figurines that have all different designs. Some of them are super cute (and others...not so cute). I'll post a picture of them later on.

Thanks for joining in! When were you there in May? We went in May of '08 and it was not crowded at all. Loved it!

No, believe it or not we didn't use the main pool at all. :sad2: It always seemed pretty crowded and then there was one afternoon we got back and the pools were closed. That is cute about the ducks...one morning before we headed to the parks we walked by the pool and saw a bunch of ducks in there.

Believe me, if we would have gone in the main pool we would've done the slide and we don't have any small kids! When we stayed at the BCV Dad and I rode the slide they have at Stormalong Bay a few times each. That slide was AWESOME. :thumbsup2 So was the one at AKL for that matter. :rotfl:

Can you believe how nice the weather has been here in WI lately?! They were calling for rain yesterday (Tuesday) and it never came!

I know, it has been really nice! I had my first subbing assignment of the year yesterday and it was nice going outside for recess with the kids and then being able to walk home.

I had to laugh when I read your post about the temperature on the bus- it's like they try to freeze everyone into a state of hypothermia to get us all to be on our best behavior. :rotfl:

August 21, 2009

After a good night’s rest we were ready to get up early again for EMH at Hollywood Studios. We got ready and ate a quick breakfast before heading out to the bus stop. I don’t think we had to wait too long for a bus to come. On our way we stopped at the Grand Floridian to pick up some people. There was this one family of four who had 2 teenage girls. As we’re about to pull out of the parking lot the one girl realizes she left her park ticket in their room. OOPS! So the mother goes up to the driver to ask if he could let them off. Great start to their morning!

Soon we arrived at the Studios and went to get in line. It was another sunny day and even though it was already pretty warm it wasn’t quite as humid yet as it was the previous afternoon. We always do EMH anyway but it’s especially worth it in the summer. Before they opened the turnstiles Emma and I went to take a few pictures.

They opened up the turnstiles a couple minutes before 8:00 to let us onto Hollywood Boulevard.

5210_604951171044_20305212_35617528_1812620_n.jpg

They played the opening music but didn’t do the little opening show at all. Then it was off to Toy Story Mania with pretty much everybody else! While everyone else seemed to be going directly to the fastpasses we decided to just do standby. Then when we got out we could get fastpasses thinking it wouldn’t be quite as crazy. We quickly made it through the queue and got to Andy’s room. I love the whole theming of this ride.

Soon it was time to play! I rode with Dad and Emma rode behind us. When all was said and done, here were the final scores. Mine is the one on the left. Woo hoo!
5210_604951186014_20305212_35617531_6418678_n.jpg

The top scores of the day or week always amaze me. Here I am thinking I did pretty well and then I see some of those scores. LOL! I did notice that if you look down and aim lower there are some targets that are worth more. Just something to keep in mind! So the total time it took us to get to TSM, ride, and get out was 15 minutes. Unfortunately we couldn’t get a fastpass to ride again. It seemed like the FP line was longer than the ride line! I am not even joking, it literally was past the One Man’s Dream entrance. They had to have CMs walking through telling people it was the fastpass line. We were kind of disappointed since it’s one of our favorite rides but there was no way we were going to wait in that. Instead we headed back to do Tower of Terror and Rock ‘N Roller Coaster, two more of our favorites.

We ended up getting fastpasses for RNRC and then went to ride Tower of Terror. Both were great as usual. My only complaint is why does it always seem like our limo gets “stuck” right before the launch and we end up sitting there forever?! Just makes it more nerve-wracking. Hehe

By 9:00 we had done the three major attractions so we had a couple hours to do some other things before the first American Idol show of the day. I wanted to walk through One Man’s Dream so we went back that way. It’s so neat reading all the history and seeing all the models and other artifacts.

Wouldn't it be funny if we came to WDW to see Oswald the Rabbit instead of Mickey Mouse?!

The original Mickey stuffed toy! The letter at the bottom is so cute—the lady wrote to Walt and says to ask Mickey why he’s not in more movies. :)

After spending some time in One Man’s Dream we decided to go to the backlot tour.
5210_604951210964_20305212_35617536_6211803_n.jpg

We had to wait about 15 minutes before it officially opened and there were already a lot of people in front of us. We ended up missing the first showing but were able to get into the second group (meaning we’d still be out in time to get to AIE). I thought the preshow movie on the making of Pearl Harbor was pretty interesting. Then it was time for the Harbor Attack part—also very amusing.
5210_604951215954_20305212_35617537_6255940_n.jpg

The final “movie” was so cheesy because the people they chose were pretty funny “actors.”

There were a couple changes I noticed on the tram ride:
1) The person who usually does the whole spiel was replaced by a recording
2) The story with Catastrophe Canyon has changed. It used to be you’d be going in thinking they weren’t filming at all and end up in the middle of a shoot. Now it’s like they’re showing you how they do effects like the rain, etc.

And a few pictures from the Backlot Tour:

Up next: THIS…is American Idol!!!

nice update!

I love how you guys tour the parks - just easy going and you take things as they come - it's so refreshing compared to commando style! ;)

Can't wait to hear what you guys did next :)

Great update Sarah!!! I can't believe how crowded it looked entering the park!!! We are so excited that Devon is finally tall enough to ride RNRC!!! I haven't been able to ride it in the last few visits b/c of it!!!

Great pictures at DHS!!:thumbsup2

Ahh..we love TSM. It's one of our favorites too!!:goodvibes

Can't wait to hear about American Idol!!!popcorn::

a recording??!!!! There is still a driver I take it? Man, I was excited to ride it since I moved before they had reopened the ride but now I don't know if it's worth it. We were all expecting some grand change to the ride but I guess it's the same old thing!

What was your opinion of it???

Wow you did really well on TSM!! The fastpass line was the same for us too! The fastpass line was out to The Little Mermaid and the standbye line was an hour long! It was crazy!!

I love that American Idol billboard!

Woo! You're at DHS! :woohoo:

I love the TSM line..I never noticed Wisconsin though! I'll look for it next trip.

I'm SO glad you did One Man's Dream. Isn't it so neat?! I get chills everytime I look at the display of Walt's office.
