Our last two trips, we've stayed on property and had the dining plan, never stepping foot off WDW grounds :) This October, we are staying in a townhome in Windsor Hills, and doing only one or two TS meals at WDW. Most days we will be leaving the parks around dinner time, so I am looking for fun, affordable places we might try for dinner that kids ages 3-9 would enjoy that are close to the parks and WH. Any ideas?

I don't know, but I'm looking for the same thing. Last time we were only on Disney property, but now we'll be staying at WBC. It will be right before my son's birthday, so we want to find a couple of fun places for dinner. Can't bring myself to pay for some of the TS places in the parks (We will be four adults and two kids). I was thinking Downtown Disney or off site. Originally I was thinking T-Rex or something, but I have a problem with my ears and need to avoid really loud places (I keep earplugs in my pocket at Disney), and I've read that it is.

Not a dinner (its a breakfast-only event) and not exactly a "budget" choice (its on par price-wise with the Disney character breakfasts) but a lot of fun and something different is the Shrek Feast at Gaylord Palms. If your kids are into Shrek, Fiona and Puss N Boots, this is a great meal (heck, its a great meal either way........most expansive breakfast buffet I have ever seen).

If you click on the link in my signature for my December trip report, my write up of our experience from Christmas week begins on page 8 at post 120.

In addition to being the host of the Shrek Feast, Gaylord Palms has a beautiful atrium that's HUGE and worth exploring after your meal.

I heard the Outta Control magic/dinner show at wonderworks (I-Drive) is fun :-)

It is an AWESOME time :thumbsup2 . We went in August 2012 and thought it was an excellent show, good food, and a fabulous value.

That said, I don't think I would take a 3 year old to it. The OP's 9 year old would laugh themselves silly at the magic and comedy of the performer (Tony Brent). Its a very family-friendly show. But the 3 year old is fairly young, IMHO (though there were others there with very small kiddos).
