Fuming! Travel agent ticket mess up!

Apologies in advance, but I need a rant! We fly next thursday for our first trip to Florida, and for us, this probably is a one off! Our family has a variety of needs and acomodating them means the cost is scary, especially as we have to go in school holidays! We booked with a travel agent as I get a bit stressed trying to work all the details out, so - we are 8 days out and have been chasing our tickets for the last 2 weeks. Eventually the package arrived yesterday. This should have been SO exciting, but when I checked everything through last night they had the wrong date on our Discovery Cove tickets! The date we wanted is printed on the invoice and on our original booking confirmation, but the ticket voucher is for a different date :(
I phoned the TA this morning and they have come back saying that they have made a mistake and they can't change the tickets!
I am mad!
She apologised and said it is only 1 day different! When I asked for compensation she has offered me £40 per person. I think this is totally unreasonable as the date we planned was to take into account my DS' needs. We had also booked the wishes desert party for the same evening, knowing we would eat at lunchtime that day. We will still go to the desert party, but it will be a bit stressy as we will have to be up early the following day for DC so will worry about staying for 11pm electrical parade as planned. The other thing is that we have an ADR for O'Hana on the evening that we will now be at DC. There is no way we can justify that if we have eaten at DC, so will have to cancel and there is no way we will be able to re-book that one, which I was really looking forward to!

Although it is only 1 day later it will mean we go to DC on the last but one day of our holiday which we would never have chosen to do. My Son is on the autism spectrum & gets really anxious about the flights and is generally either very hyper or very withdrawn for the last 2 days of the holiday. The part of the trip he is most looking forward to is DC and I am worried that he won't enjoy it and that his anxiety will affect the day for the restaurant of us :(

I told the TA that I think £40 pp comp. is unacceptable and have asked for a refund of the DC tickets, given our needs and the clear **** up of their company. Her response was to laugh at me, which annoyed me even more! So I am now waiting for a call from their customer services dept.

I know people make mistakes, but we booked these tickets last June, and have paid a fortune for this holiday. Surely it is not too much to expect that someone should have double checked the date against our booking when they received the confirmation from DC. At that point they would have been able to change it. We trusted the TA to do it for us, so I feel it is not just the change, which is a big deal, but a breech of contract and am really annoyed by the attitude this morning which implied it isn't a big deal!

Has this type of thing happened to anyone else? Do you think I am unreasonable in expecting them to comp. us for the DC tickets?

Sorry for the rant, but I needed it, otherwise I am going to cry :(

What company is this, are you on facebook? I find writing on the companies facebook pages tend to get their attention.

I hope you get it sorted

I agree with pp. Facebook or twitter is usually the best way to get a decent response from any company.

Good luck.

Thanks I hadn't thought of Facebook and twitter I have tried to keep away from them lately as I get a bit to addicted. They have just called and offered £250 comp. still not good enough IMO! Am about to email them :(

If they were to refund the full DC ticket price would you be able to get new DC tickets? I'm guessing DC doesn't fully sell out and the TA can't just change the tickets but you could get more tickets?

Is so that is what I would be looking for. To get either via a refund or by them getting them to you the correct tickets. They could then have the other set to do whatever they wanted with.

First - check ds website to check availability for the day you wanted

2. phone DS direct and explain what has happened and the problems it has now caused (they were great to deal with - we had to cancel due to very very cold weather and should not have got a refund because DC was still open- however we went along the evening before and explained that we could not risk our ill child going in water in near zero temps- no questions asked and full refund given. - fab service

3. If they can sort it out just take the £40 per head and never use that travel agent again

4. name and shame branch on Tripadvisor, Dis and Face book.

5. No matter the outcome chill - you will be surprised at how many changes to your plan you will have to make during your trip - A plan is great (I'm a plan freak) but you will nead to be able to adjust and go with the flow while you are there or the trip may become very stressfull. You kids will be so busy they will not even notice the things you have to miss out. If you try too hard to stick to the plan everyone may become too tired to enjoy the later part of the trip. (10 disney trips and I have well learned to plan (and make back up plans/ weather/ illness/ triedness) but in the end if we need to change a plan - go with the flow)

Have a great trip:)

I'd be fuming too. I booked jan 2013 for our first trip oct 2013 if I had a mess up like this I'd go straight into town n speak to a manger in private. N give them a royal dressing down.

You need to make the biggest fuss possible whilst keeping your cool.

It's their fault n they have impacted on your plans.
I'd try for a full refund at least.
But some companies are hard work to budge.

Good luck, hope it pans out.

I would call Discovery Cove. We were able to change our tickets. I believe they give you one free date change.

I think this will all work out. :thumbsup2

I hope you have a great trip!

ETA: From the Discovery Cove website

Changing or canceling a reservation
At Discovery Cove, we recognize that vacation plans sometimes change. To accommodate this, we will allow one complimentary date change prior to your visit. Further changes to your itinerary will be provided for a nominal charge of $50 per change. If you need to reschedule your Discovery Cove visit, one complimentary date change is allowed, pending availability. Bookings made within 3 days of original reservation date will be booked at the original rate. Bookings made outside of that time will be subject to change based on seasonal rates for the new date chosen.

Please note: If you decide to cancel your Discovery Cove reservation within 30 days of your visit there is no refund. If the cancellation notice is provided more than 30 days from arrival, you will receive a full 100% refund. If you have to change or cancel your reservation, please contact the Discovery Cove reservations center at 1-877-557-7404. International guests, please call 001 (407) 370-1280.

CCgirl has found the perfect solution. Change the dates directly with Discovery Cove (as it seems you are entitled to one complimentary date change) and then accept the compensation from your travel agent.

I would still cause a fuss on facebook through. Definitely name and shame them. I would have been furious had someone laughed at me when I had complained.

I agree with PPs contact Discovery Cove, their Customer Service is usually spot on & claim your £40 from Travel Agents!!

Try not to stress, hopefully your rant to those that understand will help - I'm not excusing TA rude behaviour but they just don't 'get' the way people plan & prepare for Disney & some of the consequences.

You'll have a great holiday:)

Thank you all for your support. My next step was going to be to call Discovery Cove direct, but after a long email to the TA and a post on Facebook I had a call from one of the managing directors to say they have contacted discovery cove who have agreed to change the date to the date we wanted, which is what you all said they would do :) and as a gesture of good will, to compensate for my stress today they are going to pay for our dinner at O'Hana, which is the one we would have had to cancel if we went with the date they booked. So I can now get excited yay, yay. In exactly one week we will be going to the airport. I am now off for a large glass of wine :). Thanks again for all your suggestions :)

Glad everything worked out for you :)

I would still as I'm sure others would, like to know the travel company that did this?

Thats so good. There's nothing worse than messing up a schedule when a child's happiness is at stake :)

I'm currently Avignon an issue with my DC tickets. Can you let me know the TA your problems were with please? Thanks Andrea

Hi I sent you a PM as I didn't want to splash the name over the boards as they did eventually sort our issue out and we had a great holiday. I just won't be using them again. Good luck and I hope you sort your tickets out
