I'm thinking of renting a car instead of using towncar service. DH says that we won't be able to fit double wide stroller in trunk of Taurus or Intrepid rental along with all of our other stuff. I say we can, just might have to tie down trunk for drive to WL and pack the interior as well. We should probably have one suitcase and stroller in trunk, and 4 small to medium sized carry-ons that we can stuff around kids. Maybe a large duffle bag too. If I have to, I can dismantle the duffle and stuff contents where ever they will fit. Any experience with this? Thanks so much for any insight!

Well, we just were in DW and rented a full size car. I will tell you that you probably won't be able to fit all the stuff in the car. We had 3 suitcases and fit all of them in the trunk, but barely. They weren't big suitcases either (2 27" and a carry on type)!!!! We did have a double stroller, but mine is side by side umbrella type, and it folder up small enough to barely fit in between the kids in the back seat. After that, there wasn't really enough room for anything else. I hate to be a downer, but those strollers do take up a lot of room. The trunk is long and wide, but not very deep. Sorry to tell you this, but I think you'd be better off renting a van. I know next time we will!!!!

We just came back from DW on the 10th... We rented a full size car from National and ended up with an Intrepid. It had a rather large trunk. At the last minute, after we picked up the car days earlier in Ft Lauderdale, my brother in law decided to join us in Orlando. We ended up returning to the airport on departure day, with 5 people in the car and everyone's luggage. We had 5 suitcases, a regular stroller and multiple carry on bags. It was a tight fit, very tight, but we got everyone and everything in. The ride to the airport is not that long so it was acceptable. I wouldn't have wanted to drive 10 hours that way... :) If you get an Intrepid, it may work for you. The trunk is very large. However, some of the 'full size' GM cars do not have as large a trunk so at that point you may have a problem. Last year it was my wife, my son and I in a Buick Regal and we barely fit everything in for just the 3 of us. It is luck of the draw though...

What about the return trip? Will you have room for the souvenirs? And I don't know why this is, but dirty clothes ALWAYS take up more room than clean ones! :D

If there's any doubt, I'd go with the minivan - even if it costs a little more.

Enjoy your trip!

What kind of car do you have at home? If you or a relative has something comparable to the fullsize you could do a trial run on packing your things in it. If you are doing the Emerald Aisle, you could just hope for an SUV or van, but that does you no good if your stuff really won't fit and there are no bigger vehicles to be found. If you do go the fullsize car route, the Impalas seem to have a fairly decent size trunk compared to some of the fullsize.
