Full Body Scans at Tampa Airport

No the pins were in my bag and like I said before they told him he was being selected at random. So if I was in front of him in the line or my mom was, then chances are we would have been selected for it.
My DH and DD were ahead of me in line. They told ME it was random too, but I don't think it was. I think they went on "alert" so to say because of the pins. Your dad was last after you went through with something that needed to be hand searched. They are not going to tell the person searched exactly WHY they are being searched. They are ALWAYS going to tell them that it is "random".

Well the year before we flew home Tampa I had my pins and none of my family members had to go through the full body scan. Also even it was the pins how could they know about them since my dad's carryon bag was looked at on their monitor before my carryon bag where I kept the pin bags. So because they were in my bag shouldn't I have been the one to go through the body scan?

The full body scan was not in place until recently. And you, like me, went through after Christmas when TSA was much more nervous. So, did your dad go through before you then? Or did he go through last? I'm confused.

Well when flew home from Tampa on Janurary 1, 2009 they had the full body scaners because I remember seeing them. Also like I said before my dad went through before I did.

Totally confused.

You flew TPA both January 2009 and December 2009 and saw the scanners both times? But your dad only went through it this year? Just having trouble following your posts.

Oh, and nowhere do you say that your dad went through before you.

That's because we went on vacation in Decemeber 2008 and didn't return until January 1, 2009 during that trip.

We then went away last month on December 12, 2009 and returned home on December 31, 2009. So that's two seperate vacations.

I also said a few times my dad went through 1st in the security line.

OK, I think I have it now. Your dad went before you and your pins and was pulled over for a full body scan before your pins went through the scanner. Oh well, I'm still blaming it on the pins instead of "randomly" choosing a mother flying with her family ;).

I have no problem scanning everyone if it makes my flight safer. Like a PP said if you want to get your thrills looking at my 44yr old body go for it.:rotfl:

That was my first thought! They might be drawing straws to see who has to work the scanner. I'm sure the majority of it is not pretty.

Do kids have to go thru it? I do have a problem putting my 5yo and teen daughters in there.

I guess you don't think a "mother" flying with her family could be in any way a criminal?

In our case it was three "moms" traveling with their 12 to 15yo daughters on the way home from a skating competion. One of the three of us was selected, none of the kids and we had no pins!

But again, unlike your situation she was given a choice and information on the scanner. (FWIW she chose the scanner)

I don't think the point is to catch criminals. They are looking for terrorists. Far as I know there have been no suicide bombers that brought their family with them. I'm for profiling- if it includes looking at more than just skin color.

Obviously these terrorists don't value human life. It used to be that only men were suicide bombers, now it's not unusual for females to be suicide bombers. Minors have been used in attacks against Israel. How long do you think it will be until they recruit families?

If you only target a specific profile, the terrorists are going to find a way around it. You have to be proactive and screen EVERYONE.

I don't like giving up my freedom either, but if the use of these machines makes flying safer, which I believe it does, I'm all for it. Note, that I said safer. It won't be perfect, but it will be improved.

Not taking a position, but just so everybody has as much information as possible.

See this video on what the screener can see and how they can manipulate the image.

Ed

I don't see any issues with this video.

I hope that they install these at ALL the US airports.

Believe me, we all have the same equipment. It's just in all different sizes. I have no problem with a full body scan and neither does any of my family.

My thought; if you don't want to be scanned, take the train or the bus.:thumbsup2

Kudos to Tampa!

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

No issues with this scanner.

Anyway - sorry you were uncomfy in it. I would take it over a hand patting anyday. And will be glad to see this in all places so all people need to go through it...

I guess you missed the ;) smiley that meant I was kidding :rolleyes1.

No need to roll your eyes not all computers pick up the smiley faces as the computer I was using earlier this morning doesn't, and there has been more than one person who has seriously posted that they should not be subject to additional screening because they look like xyz and not a terrorist.

I know the point is terrorists, I used the word criminal instead and there is no "profile" of a sucide bomber anyl onger, yes they will use whomever they have to to accomplish their goal.
