With crude oil flirting with $100 per barrel, will DCL reinstate the fuel surcharges?

And does anyone recall what the charges were for a 7 day cruise?

Also, if you had alread paid off cruise in full, did DCL not levy fuel surcharge?

It is possible. I don't recall what the surcharges were, but they were not levied on anybody who had fully paid.

The fuel charges were only added to new bookings. They were not added to existing bookings unless you transferred it to a new cruise date, which technically made it a new booking to DCL.

ETA: I just pulled my old reservation confirmations. I have written on one of them that the fuel surcharge was $308 for the four of us.

Igot a quote and at the bottom it said Disney has the right to charge $10 a day fuel surcharge per person hope they are not warning me its coming it would be a lot on 12 day sailing.

If you've only paid your deposit, would it be worth it to pay in full now to avoid a fuel surcharge?

I paid our 9/11 Dream cruise off today in hopes of avoiding a fuel surcharge. It feels great not to have to worry about it. The way things are going I would think DCL would be adding a fuel surcharge pretty soon. Glad I booked airfare early too, as it is on an upward climb.

So, existing bookings are safe?

Existing bookings are not 'safe'

Historically DCL has not charged if you have paid in full, but if you read the doucments..they have the right to charge it at anytime I believe.

I sure hope existing bookings are safe! Our PIF date is in April...hopefully they would send out a message of some sort to give people the option of paying in full NOW to avoid a surcharge! That would suck if they didn't at least offer the choice to avoid having to pay it.

I would NOT count on that... Disney rarely sends out "warning" notices for raising their prices!

We are not sailing until October 30, 2011 on the Dream, but just bought trip insurance today, and plan to pay in full no later than tomorrow in hopes we can avoid a fuel charge.

DCL reserves the right to reinstate the fuel surcharge at any point. Back in 2008 when fuel surcharges were added throughout the cruise and airline industry, DCL announced that when oil prices fell below $70 during a quarter, fuel surcharges would be refunded in the form of an onboard credit. I was on the lucky side of that one as we had paid fuel surcharges and we received the credit when we sailed.

Since oil was hitting $100 a barrel yesterday, if that trend continues, I fear a fuel surcharge is coming soon. Has anyone had a PIF cruise and then had the fuel surcharge added?

Depending how their wording is, it wouldn't matter if your cruise is paid in full or deposited if they can add it to an existing booking. The last time they added the surcharge to new bookings only, but I believe many of hte cruiselines changed their wording to say it can be added at ANY time before the cruise is taken.

I just called DCL to ask if they knew when they're adding the port excursions for Palma, Mallorca since that's a new port on this summer's Med cruises...they have the list but no load date for the website.:headache: ANYWAY, while I was on the phone I asked her if she had heard any rumors floating yet about fuel surcharges & she said no, she hadn't heard anything like that. I would just hope that IF they bring them back it's either only on new bookings OR that they offer the OPTION to finish paying NOW to avoid it. We are sooo close to our PIF date (April) which is still early considering we don't sail until August... I really wanted to finish up our taxes before I paid it off.... That would be pretty dirty of them to not at least offer the chance to avoid it.

When I booked our Fantasy cruise three weeks ago they warned me that we could be subject to fuel surcharges of $9 per person per day.

Last time they didn't add the surcharge to existing reservations even if they weren't PIF. We had two active reservations the last time the FSC was put in place and they did not have it added. They also did not remove any FSC from existing reservations automatically when it was stopped. They simply stopped adding it to new bookings. You had to cross your fingers that your FSC would be refunded to you. The first two quarters it was. The last two quarters it was not.

I did a search of past posts regarding the implementation of the FSC the last time and these are some links.

If Disney Cruise Line does a fuel fee, it won't charge already-booked passengers

With link to an article in the Orlando Sentinal regarding this.

Carnival & RCCL Forced to Refund Fuel Surcharges

It looks like the FL attorney general has already established how this can and cannot be done.

*** This is the email that was sent out regarding the FSCs. It clearly states that it will only be applied to new bookings and people were encouraged by DU to book before that date to avoid the FSC. ***

Due to continually rising fuel prices, Disney Cruise Line® is implementing a fuel surcharge.

The surcharge* is $8 per person, per day for the first two Guests in a stateroom and $3 per day for all other Guests. It is effective for new bookings only made on or after May 28, 2008. Additionally, the surcharge will be capped at $112 each for the first and second Guests in a stateroom and $42 each for all other Guests in the stateroom.

Travel Agents should implement additional procedures to ensure that they disclose the exact amount of the applicable fuel surcharge to Clients before they make a decision to book a Disney Cruise Line vacation.

FSC implemented

Thread discussing how moving cruise date or adding a person to the reservation will add the FSC to everyone on the reservation

There is a difference between a quote and a booking confirmation. There is also nothing on either of my existing reservations referencing a FSC online in the terms and conditions.
