We loved the Fuel Rod service at Disneyland. These machines aren't available on ship or ports are they? I'm guessing not, so can anyone recommend a good iphone charger for me? My husband wants one that can provide at least 2 or 3 phone's worth of charge and I want one that's very light weight.

Thank you so much!!

I don't believe there are FuelRod stations on the ships. FuelRod.com has a "location finder" on their site, but they only include the U.S., France and Switzerland. Oddly, they don't list the WDW locations.

Anker makes good portable batteries at good prices. Check Amazon for a size that suits you.

No Fuel Rod machines on the ships but I bring ours along and charge them in the cabin to use on port days for various devices. They are rechargeable even without swapping them out. They do have many locations at WDW and Disney Springs as well as MCO.

I use Anker aftermarket chargers and cords and I love them. They are certified by Apple, as well. But you can plug your phone in your room, so most people don't need a battery for their phones. I think the only time you'd need something portable would be if you're using it as a camera on excursions.

I was thinking the same thing. As a new cruiser, OP, perhaps you are thinking of your day being similar to a Disneyland day, but it definitely isn't go-go-go the same way. Even if you run down your battery using the app on board and the camera on your phone on sea days - you'll likely end up in your room now and then over the course of the day and can just plug it in. The only scenario in which I would find a portable charger useful would be if we were in port for a long day and were doing it completely on our own - wanting to use google maps or similar. Which itinerary are you doing, and have you already chosen your port activities?

We’ll be in Europe, with several days pre and post cruise intense sightseeing. A few ports are long days like the full day in Berlin (which includes a 3+ hour commute each way) and two long days in St. Petersburg. We have European cell/data so I imagine we’ll be watching maps, looking up foreign words, texting/emailing home, taking photos, checking in here to see what we are doing for tips ;-) etc.

We just use Anker brand portable batteries and cables, and recharge everything at night in the room. When we did our land-based days in Italy (with a portable wifi), I did bring the larger battery with us, which can charge 2 phones at least once, maybe twice. We were using the camera, maps and playing a little Pokemon Go, but honestly didn't really need to recharge most days. Otherwise simple lipstick chargers get us through a day of heavy cell-phone use.

Anker is a good brand. Just be cautious with really cheap cords, chargers and plugs. I have a Mophie that I love. It’s got enough juice for like 10 charges or 3 on my iPad.

In my experience, you can't get very lightweight AND that many charges. But then I haven't purchased one recently. Maybe things have changed in the last year or two.

I use Anker.

I have this Anker one. It isn't super lightweight but not heavy at all either. It charges my phone (iphone 7) 2-3 charges depending on how low I let the battery get, even when charging my dd's iPod now and then too. It also charges quickly. I've had it for awhile now and I am pretty pleased with it. I like the lights that indicate how much charge it has left. I have the little short Anker cord too and have been very happy with it.

My understanding is that FuelRods contract with Disney prevents them from listing the Disney locations on fuelrod.com.

Can you not just recharge the fuelrod yourself with a USB? This way you wouldn't need to buy another charger. I use an Anker product myself from amazon. It is about the size of a Hershey Bar and I can get 1.5 charges out of it.

I agree. If you already have a FuelRod, there's no need to purchase another charger. Just charge that one yourself.

As others have mentioned, a portable charger isn't as necessary on a cruise as it is at WDW or DL. I took one with us in port and only needed it on our Cozumel day. On the ship, we were back in our room often enough we could keep our phones charged up.

Another vote for Anker products here. We have several of their batteries and picked up one of their Power Port 6 chargers for our cruise. Before buying it, I asked DCL if it would be allowed on board (no extension cords, power strips, and all that....) and was told it is acceptable. It will be easier to manage than all of the individual chargers, they'll stay in the gallon zip lock bag in a suitcase as backup. I found keeping all of the chargers, cables, and batteries in a single bag made it easier for me to find them when we travel. We've been using the Power Port 6 for the last few months to charge out phones and tablets. If you have batteries, make sure you bring enough cables to charge your devices and batteries at the same time.

OP is asking for a good power pack for a European cruise. With possibly long bus and train rides a power pack that has enough charge for 2 phones is helpful. A FuelRod does not have a high capacity. From personal experience I have used charging packs in airports and on plane rides, even though most planes and airports have outlets it is never guaranteed.

We took our power port 5 on board twice, now. No problems. Note, that if you need to charge a Samsung, you can get the Anker charger with a Qualcomm port, in addition to the regular ports. Just check out their site.

The Qualcomm port is for fast charging. We have no issues with using the Power Port 6 (without Qualcomm port) to charge S5's, S7E's, and Samsung tablets. I'm guessing it takes a little longer without the fast charging.

Another tip - we have some big orange batteries from Jockery that can provide enough power to support several charges. ( 12000 mAh / 44.4 Wh)

I agree with Anker as a general brand recommendation; we have also purchased Aukey ones. Usually if I'm in need of an item like this I check out Amazon and choose one with the best reviews. I think it's also useful to get one that has a fast charging option.
