We are heading to Florida over mothers day and thought we would send all grandmas flowers. Looking at FTD and 1800 flowers. I see that a lot are delivered via fed ex or ups in a gift box. Has anyone received flowers this way? I would think they would be all messed and mashed up.

I have received plenty from Pro Flowers and they do come squished into a long cardboard box ( and then wrapped in a thin plastic sheet thing)..They don't ever come out of the box looking nice, they pretty much take a couple of days to "come to life"...The first time I was pretty disappointed because they looked bad but as time went on they looked great. If I were sending to an older person, or someone that may not be able/want to mess around with the arranging and cutting of the stems I would order from a local place.

I haven't had good experiences having flowers mailed, with the exception of Hallmark Flowers (which is no longer available). I might look on the internet for a local florist in your grandmother's area and work with them. That is what we do now, and we seem to have better results.

I don't like flowers that come in a box either. First, they do look kinda yuck, plus it's more work for the receiver. I always find a local florist now to have them presented and delivered nicely.

I hate proflowers/boxed flowers. I would never tell my husband that because I appreciate that he thinks of me, but getting these at work is a huge mess. You need to cut all the stems, peel off the outer layer of petals and arrange them yourself. It takes a lot of time and makes a big mess.

Order from a florist local to the reciever and have them delivered already arranged and assembled. Getting flowers should not be work.

My son ordered flowers for his girlfriend on Valentines Day through 1 800 flowers - why he did not ask me first for my opinion/suggestion :worried: I don't know.

Anyway - apparently they were wilted, almost dead and might have been the wrong flowers too. He was pissed of course. They refunded him and sent him a coupon for a future order which went in the garbage. I told him, next time to call one of the local florist that I always use (and his brother).

As another poster said, order from a local florist. Just internet search some florists in the area where they live and give them a call. You will get much better flowers.

I just looked at the FTD site. It's simple to choose arrangements that are delivered by a local florist, since the delivery type is listed with each selection (at least on the mobile site).

My Dh just sent me some this week, that he had ordered online. Poor guy, he was trying to be thoughtful on our 25th anniversary.

The roses arrived at 5pm, in a box. A vase was included, even though he specified no vase. The stems were bone dry--I have no idea how long those poor flowers had sat in that box, but they had NO water. A couple had broken stems, a few had brown petals, and there wasn't any preservative. To add insult to injury, they charged him $7.50 extra to deliver 25 roses versus 24.

He's currently trying to resolve this with the company, but I wouldn't recommend going this route.

Thank you everyone! This is what I thought. I didn't notice delivered by fed ex until last minute. I will find a florist. Thanks for the great info!

I've had good luck with Proflowers, but 1-800 flowers is awful. On two occasions I've sent arrangements that were NOTHING like I ordered. And another attempt the flowers went without a card. 1800flowers response..."here's a $12.00 credit".

I've always had good luck with flowers from proflowers, much better quality than florist delivered flowers. I guess everyone's experience is different

I highly suggest calling a local florist in the area that your family lives in. My mom owns a florist and by calling directly you will get better service and better flowers for your money.

My family and I moved to Florida in December. A friend from school sent a bouquet as a house warming present. They were from ProFlowers and were GORGEOUS! This was the first time I had ever received anything from them. They came packaged very nicely - meaning the flower were well protected.

Here are some pictures...

I hope this helps!

I don't like getting boxed flowers. I'm not a florist and I don't have the talents needed to make a vase of flowers look special.

When I send flowers I always use a local florist so the person getting the flowers has a beautiful arrangement as soon as they open the door. No work required!

I just looked at the FTD site. It's simple to choose arrangements that are delivered by a local florist, since the delivery type is listed with each selection (at least on the mobile site).

I recommend just calling the florist directly, though. 1. cuts out the middle man. 2. my friend (florist) hates their FTD contract requires them to make the bouquets exactly as shown in the picture. While that sounds good, sometimes the florist may be low on {say} daisies or pink carnations, whatever, and just some "blah" looking ones are left. There would be another flower that is fresher and look just as pretty, but they can not substitute at all. If you call directly, they can use their descretion to make something that looks nice with available stock.

My DH used ProFlowers once several years ago. We live in NC and the flowers were shipped from Chicago.

I was supposed to get them on Valentine's day but due to a blizzard in Chicago they were a day late. Our weather was beautiful and if he had used a local florist they would have been on time

I got a dozen roses from FTD this past Valentine's Day.

They were boxed and arrived UPS. Problem is it was very cold and the were frozen. FTD responded immediately and sent another. Same thing happened. This time when I talked to them we decided to wait until March to try again. This time they plussed them up a little with some babies breath and other greens and the were beautiful! Whatever you do don't ever go through Teleflora. The shop they used attempted to deliver about 7:30 at night on Valentine's Day. We were out to dinner as people do on that day. Instead of calling the number on the card in their hand, they took them back and called me the next day.

They delivered them the next day even though I told them on the phone that I would be demanding a refund. I called Teleflora and they said they would give me 20% off. I said that's okay I won't be using you again. No, they wanted to give me only 20% that order! I demanded all my money back and got it.

I prefer to use a local mom and pop place near the people that is receiving the flowers. I find that you get more bang for your buck, and better personal service over using just FTD.
