Hey all!

Can anyone tell me what kind of lizard the little brown guys you find EVERYWHERE in the fort are? We got home yesterday and when we were unpacking our side compartment we found a little stow away. We live in Maine so I can't just let him loose, he won't survive, I'm assuming, in the cold. I have been trying to find it online, so that I can see what we would need to care for him/her. I guess my only other option would be to drive back down and bring him home.:thumbsup2

Do you mean this one???

If so, that is a Florida Scrub Lizard.

They are common in Central Florida and the Atlantic Coast. They are pretty much found everywhere throughout Florida though, I consider them to be the most common.

When we moved to Delray Beach, we came into contact with a new kind of lizard, that we weren't used to because they aren't anywhere south of Palm Beach county. The rather large Eastern Fence Lizard:

They do grow rather big, it was quite a shock seeing lizards that big...lol

All we need to do is find someone your way that is coming down to FW soon and can bring him home :cool1: Would be pretty cool actually.

I think what you found is likely the brown Anole post up a pic so we can see it and let you know for certain.

Is this it? It's a Brown Anole. They eat bugs, if that helps!

That's it Rhonda! I am going to get him a nice tank today with lights and everything. Hopefully he does ok. I have already prepared my kids who were exstatic when we found him, that he may not last. The entire trip they asked to bring one home, and I kept saying NO. Then we get home and there he is. I keep telling my husband that we need to bring him back, but he isn't falling for it.;) I'm all for a trip back down. I guess I will just have to wait until next year.

Bah, Rhonda got the right lizard. Ok, someone else find some creature in their luggage from Florida so we can play this game again ;)

Woo-hoo! I win a get-out-jail-free card!!

You've either caught a Carolina anole or one of it's imported relatives. This link goes into how to care for one. They make nice pets.

This ain't over yet! They need to put him on a leaf and see if he turns green. If he does turn green then I WIN!!!!:woohoo: He may only be brown from hiding in the luggage.:thumbsup2

They do not grow to big so a small little 20 gallon tank should be fine. If you have a suoerpet or something like that around your arera they will actually have lizzard starter kits designed for that lizzard. We have a bearded dragon from Australia he eats veggies and fruit and crickets along with pinky mice (no we have not fed him those). Our beardy is great with the kids he will sit up on their shoulders for hours watching tv or playing games etc.

This is what we have.

So its been a couple of days. How is he hanging in there?? Keep us posted. Got any pictures of him yet? Whats his name?
Mickey?
Sneaky?

get yourself a 20 gallon aquarium. layer the bottom with thin layers of gravel, sand, dirt and mulch (in that order) and plant a nice plant in there along with some sticks chris-crossing the tank. plop in your anole and once a week get him some crickets at the local petco....he will be a happy lizzard. don't forget to get a mister bottle and generously mist the plant in his tank. they drink by licking moisture off the plants. don't set his tank too close to a window, but they love indirect sun light. keep him warm. if your location is cool, think about a lizzard light or a warming rock in his tank.

you should never have to clean his tank. any waste he puts out or any dead/uneaten crickets, will rot away into the soil and feed the plant.

you will have a very happy lizzard. you can get others at the pet store, but i am not sure about mixing a wild one with those in the commercial market.

we had 3 for years (Peter, Paul and Mary) and my son loved them.
