Does anyone out there have any info on which specific businesses and/or resorts on Ft. Myers Beach had considerable damage from Hurricane Charley? FMB is a place that's near and dear to my family's hearts, as we've spent numerous vacations down there over the past 25 years. Thanks, in advance, for any info that you have.

bumping this, i feel the same way about captiva island, which is near fort myers and besides disney world, my favorite place on the earth, any info anybody?....goof

I'm interested too as my DAd & his wife are from the area and I have yet been able to get in touch with them. Anyone please?

I live in Ft Myers & we got our power & phones back on yesterday~tuesday.
The residents of Ft Myers Beach, Sanibel & Captiva are being let on the islands today for the first time.
I have heard that there is lots of damage on Ft Myers Beach. Sanibel has lots of trees down, but structure damage is not as bad as expected. Captiva is now 2 islands, Captiva & North Captiva! The storm cut a 40 foot wide path thru the island & we have 2 Captivas.
Constant news coverage on tv & radio. It's very hot with high humidity & strong storms at time.

Here is a picture of the 2 Captiva's now

Psammie1025, thanks for letting us know how things are going. It must be such a relief to be getting back electricity and water. We are all thinking about and praying for you folks down there. I hope your home escaped without serious damage.

lizdotcom99 and edcrbnsoul, thanks for the link and the pictures. So heartbreaking. I am a frequent visitor to FMB and Sanibel. It's such a gorgeous area that it's hard to imagine all the destruction there now. Just curious what the projections are for the Captiva situation. Are there plans to "fix" the breach in the island? (That sounds dumb, I know, but hopefully you know what I'm trying to ask. :D )

Travelbug I don't know that they can fix the breach in the island. They will need to build some kind of causeway or bridge to the area that is cut off. It was a barrier island and what hppened is not uncommon in the major hurricane like Charley.

Talking Hands, thanks for the info. It's just amazing to realize what catastrophic changes have come about from Charley.

(Thanks also for not laughing at my dumb question! :p )

Look online at the Ft. Myers newspaper .
There is a lot of info about the Ft. Myers area.
I've also found so much info on this site about Sanibel and Captiva. Plus there are message boards (info exchange) where I found links to other sites.

Captiva is still the one island of Captiva. It was North Captiva (also called Upper Captiva) that was cut in two by the storm. North Captiva was and still is an island accessible only by boat.
Captiva is the island connected to Sanibel by a bridge.

Thanks for the links, pics and info, everyone. My thoughts and prayers continue to be with all those who were affected by the storm. Sure hope that they get all the help and support necessary to "get back to normal" ASAP.

Sorry for the late bump, but I was gonna ask about FMB tonight in a new thread, so this helped a great deal. My Mom, just tonight, asked me to 'ask' about The Outrigger in FMB, and the damage, etc. that it may have experienced. Thank you all for the posts and links, I'll pass it on to her tomorrow.

Prayers for all those affected.

KimRaye, you could suggest to your mom that she e-mail the Outrigger down there to express her concern and ask what the situation is. I e-mailed the resort I've visited many times (the Sandpiper on FMB) to ask if everyone's OK and to inquire what their situation is. I wasn't sure if I'd get answer, but the manager actually e-mailed me back on the first day they were allowed back on Estero Island. He thanked me kindly for my message of concern and said they would be closed until Dec. 1 for repairs. He didn't go into detail of course, as I'm sure he was incredibly busy. But at least I learned that nobody there was hurt, and that the resort wasn't totally demolished.
