Hello Disney friends. My family & I have been to Disney World many times but this will be the first time since I received a new medical diagnosis. We have purchased the counter service dining plan. I need to keep my meals completely raw vegan as in fruits & vegetables (salads are ok too). I noticed that none of the counter service meals I've looked at so far offer a big fruit bowl or big salad without some kind of meat. Fruit & side salads are considered snacks. My question is: Does anyone know how many sides of fruit or side salads would constitute a meal? Do they let you take a certain amount of snacks to equal a counter service meal? Any help is appreciated.

You are probably right, I've never seen a large/big bowl of fruit listed as a meal.

That said, you can use 3 snacks as a counter service meal.

If you don't mind my asking, what condition requires a completely raw vegan diet?

At many QS you can ask to have a salad made without the meat. If their salads are pre-made, you will have to wait while one is made for you.

Note that at the resort you should be able to get three "snacks" for a counter service credit PLUS an additional snack in place of your drink, if you are using your refillable mug for water or other beverage. Look in the refrigerated section for the vegetable boxes, side salads, and fruit. The entree salads, minus the meat, really isn't very much salad. I think you would be better off with multiple side salads and add some vegetables from the other vegetable boxes. I know I saw carrot/celery containers as well as carrots, tomatoes, & cucumbers with humus dip. The fruit options at our resort were very good, including entire clamshells of raspberries or blackberries for a single snack credit, also strawberries, fresh pineapple, apple slices, etc. Whole fruit like bananas is also available.

Your luck in the parks will vary though. Just ask at each location what your options are.

You won't get three PLUS one more; you only get three even at the resorts. One of the three IS your drink entitlement. If you get a QS meal at your resort, you MAY be able to get a snack instead of the drink, but if you're getting exchanging a QS meal for snacks, you only get three.

Resort QS will almost always allow the 3 snacks for 1 QS. In the parks, you're going to have to ask at EVERY QS place you want to try it. Some will and some won't. This "trade" isn't written anywhere in the dining plan brochures, so it's really at the discretion of the CMs working.

I think it is going to be very difficult to eat at Disney this way

I hope you are staying at a resort w a food court. Plan on buying snack items to make up a meal

You may also want to have groceries delivered to supplement your credits

Oops. Yes, you are right. Thank you for the correction. I just returned a week ago; I think I was confusing the number because DD would get cereal, milk, fruit, and a pastry for a single QS credit. I believe, though, that the cereal/milk only counted as one snack, which is why she was able to get two other items.

Mediterranean Salad
Fresh Mixed Greens with Cherry Tomatoes, Red Onions, Pepperoncini, Kalamata Olives and Feta Cheese tossed in a Mediterranean Vinaigrette and served with Hummus and Pita Chips
$9.99 ABC Commissary

I like this salad very much. It is at ABC Commissary. It is a full size salad, w/hummus and pita chips and nicely filling.

There are other good full size salads. There used to be a good one at Sunshine Seasons with beets and feta cheese, but sadly, I don't see it on the menu now.

Watermelon Salad - watermelon, arugula feta, pickled red onion with a white balsamic vinaigrette
$8.99 Flame Tree BBQ

This is really good too. I try making it at home, but mine is not as good.

Look around some more. You may have missed a lot of good ones.

Grilled Vegetable Stack - Served with green papaya slaw and black-eyed pea salad
$9.99 Harambe Market

Also good.
Maybe you just overlooked a lot of good options.

There are a lot of containers of fruit, but not at places that take counter service credits, only snack credits.
I might suggest dropping the dining plan. You would do better by just paying OOP.

The salads all have feta, that would need to be left out
And the veggies all have to be raw and vegan

Really limiting

true, those salads are not vegan as listed (they could leave out the cheese but a vegan one would need to be specially prepared) and also aspects of them (chips, hummus, dressing) may not qualify as raw.

Not sure if they still have it but some QS, such as POR, had a "make your own salad" option. It did involve choosing a meat, but you could not choose to choose a meat and pile on more veggies. Then get a fruit like a banana or or what not as a snack credit or would they allow that as a dessert credit?

No desserts on QS meals anymore, so that's a mute point. They may still let you trade the drink portion for a snack at the resorts, but some are and some aren't.

We were on the deluxe dining plan last trip and used mostly snack credits for breakfast and lunch which consisted of primarily Capt. Cook's, Fairfaxe or Harambe Fruit Market choices. We ate various fresh fruit cups/packages and shared a cream cheese or peanut butter and jelly toasted bagel (one for 3) most days and felt well sated. Sometimes DGD would add a dry pack of Sugared Frosted Flakes to the mix as nibble food but I wish none sugared flakes was offered as well.
