You do know that only one fruit cake exists, don't you? It just keeps getting passed around... ;)

I hate to admit it, but I really enjoy a good fruit cake. My DFIL said for years he hated fruit cake, I finally asked him if he had ever had one, and no he really had never tried one, but he knew they were bad, guess what, after he tried one he liked it! The difference is you need to get a good quality one, not a cheap one.

I can take it or leave it......................not all that fussed tho

I like a good homemade fruit cake...I even make fruit cake cookies at Christmas time. But my kids turn up their nose at them. But I haven't found a good "diabetic" one, so I guess my fruit cake eating is over!

I love fruitcake but I am the only one. My dad can't eat it anymore because of diabetes so I don't buy it. Anyone wanna share with me. I don't need alot, just a little taste. :D

When I lived in Ca. I loved listening to Mark and Brian on the radio during the Christmas season...they would do the funniest segments on all the things you could use fruit cake for....I always got the best laugh!

I can't eat it!....Yuck!

Yuck! :crazy2: It doesn't deserve to have fruit and cake in its name. It's nasty. It never seems to get old so I think someone gets it one year than gives it awy the next. Then if someone does try it, they realize how bad it tastes and throws it away. Then a new fruitcake begins it journey.

I love a really good homemade fruitcake, particularly in the afternoon with a good cup of coffee.

A lot of folks have only had bad incarnations of fruitcake. And, for some reason, Trappist Monks seem to make some of the best fruitcake around. The monks at Mepkin Abbey outside of Charleston, SC make a very good one, as do the monks at Assumption Abbey in the Missouri Ozarks. (This last one you can find at Williams Sonoma).

I love Claxton fruitcake. There is also a place in Texas that makes a great fruitcake but I have forgotten the name.

I cant remember the name of the place but we pass it driving from Houston to Dallas--its right outside of Dallas. In Corsicana I think. My DFIL LOVES fruitcake but none of the rest of us do.
As for eggnog......yuuuuummmmmyyyyyy I love it. If you buy it at the grocery store only buy the Borden Rich Eggnog--the cheaper stuff does taste very yucky.

I love fruit cake, traditional over here for Christmas and weddings. I like it with marzipan and Royal icing. My Dh likes to eat it with cheese (yuk!).

I hate fruit cake, but my high school choir always sold Texas Fruit Cakes as a fundraiser and people raved about them.

Although I've never had fruit cake, I don't think I'd like it. Here's a funny recipe someone gave me years ago:

FRUIT CAKE

This is my favorite recipe for fruit cake. You'll need the following;

1 cup of water
1 cup of sugar
1 cup of butter
4 large eggs
2 cups of dried fruit
1 bottle of whisky
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1 teaspoon of salt
1 cup of brown sugar
Lemon juice
Nuts

Sample the whisky to check for quality.

Take a large bowl. Check the whisky again. To be sure it is of the highest quality, pour 1 level cup and drink. Repeat if necessary.

Turn on the electric mixer. Beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add one teaspoon of sugar and beat again.

Make sure the whisky is still O.K. Cry another tup.

Turn off your mixerer. Break 2 legs and add to the bowl, and chuck in a cup of fruit. Mix on the turner. If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaterers pry it loose with a drewscriver.

Sample the whisky again to check for tonsisticity.

Next, sift two cups of salt. Or something. Who cares? Check the whisky.

Now sift the lemon juice and strain your nuts. Add one table. Spoon. Of sugar, or something. Whatever you can find.

Grease the oven. Turn the cake tin to 350 degrees.

Don't forget to beat off the turner, bottle the check and pat out the cut, before going to bed.
