Frugal or Penny Pincher Sites?

Well, it's almost the New Year and time for resolutions. I've decided to not only save extra $$ for WDW but for other vacations and Christmas too. I've read tons of advice here on the Budget board but would love to see everyone's favorite money saving sites......not just for WDW but for everything.

I'd also like to know if anyone has bought the book Penny Pincher's Almanac from Reader's Digest? Is it worth the $24.96 or are our tips here just as good?

I like the miserlymoms.com website and check out the book from the library. I also like the library to rent DVD movies. This will save you a some change instead of renting from Blockbusters or such. I sometimes have to wait for the new releases but I look for others movies I may have missed.

Wish I could but our tiny library ( think the size of your living room and kitchen) concentrates more on kids books right now. They're moving it to a bigger space within a year but for now they dont have many up-to-date non-fiction books. To go to the bigger one in the county costs over $50 a year and I rarely go to that city.

All the websites posted have been great and full of information. I've started a price book of my most used grocery items so as to comparision shop. I started a new savings account so I have separate accounts for vacation and Christmas too.

I went through the research of saving money when I became a stay at home mother with twin babies (10 years ago). There are a LOT of way to save money, and it can be overwhelming.

One thing we did was get rid of our 'entertainment' cost. We stopped going to movies or anything that cost money. We only went to FREE activities (which are more plentiful than I realized).

We also only ate out once a month, the weekend after pay day. That saved a lot.

Since that time, our spending has increased and I could do a LOT to cut back if I put my mind to it. Thanks for the reminder. I should get back to my frugal ways again.

I'm a big fan of mycoupons.com. Make sure you check out the "shopping boards" That's where you find the best deals. I agree though...I do spend more money than I used because I find so many deals that are hard to pass up!! hehe

I frequent some of the above mentioned sites but imho the best site by FAR is www.frugal-families.com ---those chicks know to squeeze a penny til Lincoln cries!

It is a pay site but the fee is nomimal ($20 for a year--but only $3 for 3 months)...it is worth every penny.

They tell how to do everything cheaper from holiday shopping to energy savings to making your own laundry soap (very easy) to simple living.

They are a lifesaver to me. I love ff and would never stop being a member.

Can you do an interlibrary loan? My township does that. Basically you can request that the library "borrow" it from another library.

I've done that as well. I've gotten FREE college textbooks by borrowing them from my library, and they borrowed them from another library in other states. I've gotten textbooks from Vermont, and Michigan (I'm near Phila PA)
