OK, I like to think that I'm smarter than the average bear when it comes to WDW trivia. Last year on the KttK tour, the guide pointed out some interesting elements to Frontierland. The first, which I've seen elsewhere (primarily the Imagineering Field Guide to the Magic Kingdom), is that Frontierland (and into Liberty Square) transitions geographically. BTMRR is themed in the American west, the Haunted Mansion is themed as a Hudson Valley mansion. The notable exception is Splash Mountain, set in the 'west' but themed on the 'Song of the South.'

The other interesting 'fact' we were told about is that, keeping true to the theme of Frontierland, there are no restrooms to be found! No indoor plumbing back then, so none in the WDW version. The closest one to be found, per our guide, is in the Columbia Harbour House restaurant. HOWEVER, the bathrooms are in the 'Fantasyland' side of the restaurant, since technically that building transitions from one land to the other.

Since this was on an official WDW tour, I assume there is an Imagineering validity to it, but I've never been able to verify. So, has anyone else heard of this Frontierland story before?

Huge restrooms at Splash Mtn. exit.

Large restrooms at the pass-thru area between Adventureland and Frontierland (near the Diamond Horseshoe).
These restooms are as much a part of Frontierland as they are Adventureland
(although the theming is more Adventureland).

Hi!

There are also restrooms in the Pecos Bill CS restaurant in Frontierland!

Until next time,
John

It is Liberty Square that does not have the rest rooms and the original poster is correct with the story as to why .

Liberty Tree Restaurant has restrooms, no?

Liberty Tree Restaurant does, indeed, have restrooms. They are small (only 2 stalls in the men's bathroom) and upstairs, but they are there. I went (literally) in November.

I know for the Columbia Harbor House, there are restrooms. But the restaurant is split in both Liberty Square and Fantasyland. The restrooms are on the Fantasyland side. Not sure about the Liberty Tree Tavern. But I'm sure that if there are any, the same thing applies for there as well.

Just did the KTTKT a few weeks ago and found it very interesting and the same story. The only bathrooms are in LTT, but upstairs. Because it was original to the park before the disability laws they don't have to change it.

That's what I remembered.

These "true tales" (like urban legends) get told and retold until they become "facts".

Isn't every eating place supposed to have restrooms available? If that is true, shouldn't the restaurants and counter service places contain restrooms? That would mean that Peco's Bills, LTT, and Columbia House should all hold restaurants which leads to only one conclusion, this is an obvious debate for a conversation lol.

Restrooms in sit-down restaurants are required by law. There just aren't any stand-alone restrooms (imagine the jokes from THAT statement!) in Liberty Square. :)

that is the first thing i thought of once i read this. We always stop there on the way out of SM. It is actually kind of annoying when we travel with a big party.
