Frontierland "closed" last night, around 7pm--any information as to why?

Hello all, first post here and I thought the "rumor" section would be correct for what's on my mind.

I am currently at WDW--last night around 7:30/7:45ish, my mom & I were taking pictures of Haunted Mansion, etc., from the wooden docks in Frontierland that you can use to bypass the main (and oft congested!) walkways. While standing here, I heard no less than three families saying "What? Frontierland is closed?" or "Oh, I guess we can't go this way, staff is saying Frontierland is closed."

We looked up, and indeed, cast members from Haunted Mansion were directing folks *away* from Frontierland, and stating that it was closed & guests must turn back and go the other way. The specific spot I saw this happening was directly across from the Shooting Arcade; later on we saw that the entrance by Pirates of the Carribean was blocked off by cast members as well.

No context or reason was given for this closure. We are not upset, just super confused and curious! We're "Disney veterans," been coming here at least once a year since 1998. In all those years, not once have we ever heard of an entire "land" being closed under normal circumstances. I've personally been evacuated from Splash Mountain no less than 3 times, maybe even more, so I am of course familiar with the premise that individual rides can close for periods of time, and that flooding from sunken Splash Mountain logs can cause the whole ride & queue to be evacuated away. But "all of Frontierland is closed" is VERY different, and the reasoning could potentially be cause for concern.

Normally I do my due dilligence and ask a cast member, but I chose not to because of the urgency of the situation, and because I figured they would most likely not be allowed to explain what was going on. I've searched high & low for information on what happened, with absolutely no luck. The only info I've come across pertains to a Splash Mountain closure/evac earlier in the year, which is of course not relevant to yesterday (April 4th).

Any ideas about what could have been going on? My mom and I speculated that perhaps the area was being closed off for a celebrity that booked a private event or something, or perhaps something being filmed. I honestly don't even know if private events can be booked within subsections of MK, that would require all attendees to evac. Is that a thing? The other options are obviously much more grim, i.e. someone being hurt, someone having a weapon/being otherwise threatening, and so on. We have no clue.

Last but not least, we saw several aircraft in MK airspace just before this occurrence, and for the remainder of the evening afterwards. We left for our resort just when the fireworks began. I realize that not all of WDW is a true, legal "No-Fly Zone," and that tour helicopters/careflights account for many sights in the sky. We saw one helicopter and one airplane, that looked similar to a commercial airflight. I know there are websites for tracking air traffic, but I did not think to look into that at the time.

Thanks for any info!! What a weird situation!

(oh, they also soft-evacuated people in line for Pirates--we & a dozen or so others were relocated from our spot near the boarding zone to another part of the queue on the other side of the ride. No context. Doubt it's related, but the timing was odd because that was IMMEDIATELY after the Frontierland closure)

Hmmmm no idea! On another thread someone mentioned seeing aircraft near the fireworks one night and the consensus was that Disney was shooting aerial footage of the park and/or fireworks.

Not seeing anything on twitter about it, so whatever it was it didn't rise to the level of concern that people would post there about what's happening.

I think your guess that it could have been a private booking may have been accurate. After all, The DIS gang books an entire park every now and then.

Lockets might be correct, too.

I know that it's possible to book an attraction for a private party.

You can book specific locations on the grounds of a resort for a butler to serve a meal--kind of "remote room service." Prices vary, of course, from standard room service food to a chef creating special dishes.

If someone has the money, I've read, you can even arrange a private dinner catered by a favorite restaurant in a monorail car.

It could have also been a cast member event also. When I was a CM at Animal Kingdom they once randomly threw a CM Halloween party in Dinoland and they closed that section of the park an hour early. I think they just put out signs in the front of the park and around Dinoland saying that the Dinoland attractions were closing at 6:00 instead of 7:00 or whatever the closing time was. I wasn't around when they pushed guests out, but I think they had CMs standing by in some areas directing traffic so people couldn't get in and instead directed people to Discovery Island if they were going or coming from Asia.

just wow,

If it was a planned closing for an event and was an extended period of time, that's seriously a bummer to spend money on a ticket expecting to go to that land and then be blocked out in the moment. SMH. Hopefully it didn't close for a long time and it was due to a more spontaneous reason.

I'm totally into this little mystery! I'm much less informed than you, OP, and others here, but all the same if I hear anything (I won't but) I'll share it.

Although...it does seem there's a small chance it might be related to an unexpected unfortunate event. So I don't mean to make light of the situation.

I worked for a large company and every three years or so (precovid) we had a big conference and we bought out sections of parks. It was always around this time of year and last two times it was the Dumbo section of Fantasyland and the American Adventure ish section of Epcot. To put it in perspective we also bought out most of a deluxe resort.

The company DH works for has bought out Dino land and Pandora before. A section of Epcot too, so this is not surprising.

Yeah I call bull, you have no proof of this but your own negative bias. Presenting those as facts is not very nice of you, plus it's you know... lying.
I mean, come on... it unfortunately would not really be surprising and there are posts on here with the experience exactly that of what the pp suggested. The fact is it's just as good of a possibility as any other and really unfortunately is probably even more likely at this point. If you'd like to call out liars, perhaps a company that has a history of being misleading is a better place to start.

this is a strange, bizarre , and unexpected thread to find on disboards. Why wave read meat in front of "those people" looking , hungry for a fight? The last thing we need to do is encourage the old twitter crowd who are willing to believe almost anything. Magic to everyone.

so basically still got cheated……but by a richer company.
