Frontier checked bag fee going up

Wow. What a crock. Can't imagine any situation where they'd be more economical to fly on.
Next thing you'll hear is they put coin boxes on their bathrooms, LOL (for those who remember when bus stations did this)

The 35 lb limit on in bags isn't new
The email I received from Frontier said it is "now 35 lbs", so I assumed it was a new change. I've never been asked about my carry on when flying with them before, so I didn't realize it was already in effect.
If you try to get by with a personal item that looks a fraction of an inch larger than it should be, the gate attendants are all over it!

Was looking to use them this year but now I'm not so sure.

Honestly, I'd recommend against it. The last time we used them, I wasn't happy with it, but got a good deal for the airfare in March, so decided to try again. Given the new changes, I'll probably switch to one of the other airlines, even though it means I can't book non stop.

The inital posts said the overweight fee would be $50 in addition to the $40 checked bag fee. Its not clear if this has changed to mean the total price will be $50.

Probably want to limit how many people carry on their luggage to avoid the checked baggage fee. Always funny to watch people walk down the aisle of an airplane dragging their luggage and then acting surprised there is no place to put it.

The checked bag fees vary by flight (or they did), but average around $40.
The 50/ 40 being discussed was the weight limit. Most airlines allowed checked bags up to 50 lbs. Frontier is reducing their allowed weight to 40lbs, which means if your bag goes over the 40lbs, it will cost around $90. It would still be standard with no additional charge on most other airlines

An industry standard 50 lb bag will cost $90 each way.

This is not "industry standard" .. Most airlines (including most legacy carriers) charge $30-45 each way for the first 50 lbs checked bag.. $90 is extremely unreasonable especially for an airline that markets itself as "low cost" ..

I think Lewisc meant that 50lbs was industry standard, not the price. Which is ridiculous. I feel terrible for people who don't see the new lowered weight and have to pay that because they thought they were safe with their 43lb bag. Many people fly Frontier because they're trying to save $

A common charge for a 40 lb. Checked bag is 40. A common charge for a 35 lb bin bag is 45. Budget airlines charge more for a bin bag then a checked bag

40 lb limit makes it harder for 2 pax to share one checked bag. Older bags can weigh 15 to 20 lbs empty
