I like the front because I like being able to get off the plane first. After a long flight, I'm usually antsy to get out, esp if we're in Orlando!:teeth:

Usually the back which originally started with the whole "it's safer" theory, but I also have young children, so if they get antsy, I like the back better because there are -usually- less people in the back so we are bothering less people. We sat in the back row on our way to Orlando (cross country with a 5 year old and 20 month old-eek) and the back was great because the super-dee-dooper nice flight attendant was constantly talking with our boys, giving them extra treats, etc., that I doubt they would have received if we were in the middle.

I have to say I perfer the back...I've flown about 6 times in the past 4 months and everytime the plane is packed up front...people crammed into the seats and I'm in the back with the whole row to myself...on one flight I had the whole 8 rows with no one but me in the back...I love it!!!!!!!!

I like over the wing or just ahead of it. That seems to be the smoothest ride. HATE the back! Too much noise and too bumpy.

For me it depends on the situation. If I have my 3 children in tow and we are going to Jamaica, Cancun or Disneyworld, I would probably opt for the rear for a couple of reasons. #1 would be close to the bathrooms. #2 there is normally more room in the back. #3 (and I feel it's as important as #1) you are 1st on the jet and have your choice of carry-on baggage space :D

Of course this changes when we only bring the little fella along. Most airlines will let people with small children board with the preferred customers. That's when we opt for the front so we could get off quicker and store our carry-ons above our seats (added bonus).

When it's just the DW and I, I try to get either the bulkhead seating or an emergency row so I could stretch my legs.

I always try for the exit rows over the wing-over the wing is the smoothest part of the flight-Because of the reenforcement required for the wings this is also the stronges part of the plan and in the event of an emergency quickest exit. Also need exit row because DS's are 6'6" and 6'3" and DH is 6'a3"

I don't really care where I sit. There are advantages and disadvatages everywhere.

Advantages:

Front: First off plane, near bathroom

Middle: more leg room if you sit in the emergency exit row, still plenty of room for carry on luggage in overhead compartment

Back: Carry-on luggage right by your seat, no one pushing behind you to get your luggage and get off plane, can sit in seat while waiting for the bathroom, get on plane first

Disadvantages:

Front: if you are claustophobic you could get sick staring at a wall, last on plane so you luggage is normally no where near your seat, get pushed as getting off plane

Middle: always seems like the screaming kids are in the middle, people push to get off while your trying to let the people in front of you out

Back: takes forever to get off plane, if engines are in back its VERY LOUD, get hit by stuff as stewardesses are trying to get pillows, blankets out of over head compartments

We usually prefer the middle since in our experience that's been the smoothest flight. I've done the safer area vs less safe argument before and always come down to everywhere being about equal so we go for smooth flight instead.

I prefer the front, last on and first off. I am all for minimizing the time I'm on the plane for comfort reasons (no fear).

I like to sit inthe emergergency exit row smack dab in the middle of the plane :)

Thanks for the votes and all the comments, everyone! You all have good reasons for why you prefer a certain section of the plane. Believe me, if we could, we'd be sitting in an exit row, but DS12 is just too young, they won't allow it.

We're currently booked right in the middle of the plane, right over the left wing. That's where we sat last time and like someone else said, it's just a coincidence that I usually sit here, so that's what I'm used to. But since the plane is still almost empty at this point, I thought I'd give it some more thought and maybe change our seats.

I don't think I'd like the back of the plane because seeing all of the people and seats ahead of me would make me feel claustrophobic, I think! LOL I'm not a fan of big, tight crowds. I'm thinking maybe moving up to the middle of the front section. This way we'd still be in the "smaller, quieter cabin", but not up so close that all we can see is the wall in front of us. As a rule, the front is usually the last on, but the first off? I like the idea of that. :sunny:

I like to sit in front. I get refreshements first, am near the bathrooms and can get off the plane quickly.

Thanks for everyone's comments and opinions!!

I called Song airlines this evening and changed our seats from row 18, right in the middle of the plane, over the wings, up to row 6, which is supposedly a good section of the plane because it's a separate section that used to be the first class section. I know all the seats are basically the same now, but apparently they left the walls up between the two sections.

Thanks again for voting in the poll! :wave2: :sunny:

P.S. I did double-check to be sure that we can't be in an exit row. We can't... but the age for the exit row is 15, not 16 like I thought. So, in a couple more years we'll be in the exit row :teeth:
