Front Door... what do you think...

What do you think of this door...

I like the door, don't get me wrong. It sounds like you have a country-style house and that type of door just doesn't match the house style. I love (and have!!) the leaded glass doors. One note...I highly recommend a fiberglass door. That is what we have and I am so glad we didn't get a steel door. The steel doors tend to dent and fiberglass won't.

I agree with hemispheredancer. Your house sounds like a lovely farmhouse, but that door is Arts and Crafts/Mission/bungalow style.

That is what I was thinking too :(
DH and I did a - I look through set in my mind what I like -
then he goes through and pick what he likes...
and that was theonly one we bolth liked - lol
The more I thought about it I questioned it
That said - I brought up the same question with DH and he thinks there is NOTHING normal about this house - so why should the front door be - LOL

I also agree with this.

Definately Fiberglass by the way :)
Although wood was an option - I want to put COLOR there :)
I just can't find one that I love... other than that door...
the rest are sooo boring...

What she said.

I know it is a craftsman style - I like the clean lines though -
most of the Glass doors are too 'foofie for me' I WILL NOT have brass in it ;) and I like the idea of the light dancing off the glass (the room doesn't have a tonof light in it so I don't want a full door)

Maybe get something that doesn't have quite so much glass in it? There's plenty of wood doors (fiberglass) with glass ovals or other shapes, that would fit your style of home a bit more (from the sounds of it).

I know what you mean about brass---I'm "allergic" to brass myself. :rotfl: It seems like more door companies are starting to switch, or at least add to, their lines. More choices than brass for the window inserts. :)

Good for you - I don't like that brass stuff either. I am sorry for anyone here who has it, but I think it is ugly and dated looking. Are you willing to find a really old door and use it? You could probably find a neat one somewhere.

Had to find an example of what I was thinking:

Something like this door

I'm not saying buy *this* door, but after re-reading the description of your house, this is what I was seeing when trying to envision it all. :)

I love that door. But I'm a fan of F. L. Wright, so I like almost anything arts and crafts.

I have the same glass style except in the 2 long, half door windows with sidelights. If that makes sense. It looked slightly more "farmhouse-y" than the full door.
Our house is "old farmhouse" with a half wrap around porch. But inside our furniture is very minimalist, almost contemporary. We liked the door so we bought it. Don't care if nobody else does. :)

I say go for it! It's your door who cares what other people think. I also don't like typical looking doors, their so unoriginal and the brass, I agree with you-yuck!

It's a beautiful door and I'm sure it'll look lovely.:flower:

is it possible for you to post a picture of your house?
sight unseen I'd go with an oval glass insert & perhaps just some simple etching on the glass. side lights are okay, too.
We are in New England & many farmhouses also have the raised panel solid wooden doors--
where are you searching for yr door? I find often Home Depot or Lowe's can be confining in style. One of the style centers are a good palce for ideas, or architectural salvage yards or just driving around 'til you see yr style house with a door you like & taking a pic & shopping with that. also, there are some great catalogs for this sort of thing.

That is a 'similar house'
My DH is a general contractor and gave me a book with about 20 pages of doors -
most of the ones with a textured glass are very foofie! I dont like the flowers, or what look like flowers... that door posted previously was one of them -
My big issue with the round glass is that ALL the new houses in are area are doing that!
We also have 2 other outside doors that will come from the same line -
I am leaning towards the 1/2 glass door like the one posted for the dront dooe - the one with 2 inserts top only for the in-law and maybe the same for the garage!
All Painted a NICE Dark RED!
The front door is already frames WITHOUT sidelights (the windows are extra large and I didn't like how there would be NO space between the door lights and the regular windows so I opted NOT to go that route!

I agree that one is better...
We will not have sidelights -
and we will need two other coordinating doors later (garage, and in-law)
I am so dang eclectic.. lol
the only other door that i LOVE the glass in is only available in the mahogony - which dh doesn't have a problem putting the $ up for... but I love color and really wanted a RED door!
inside our house is also very contemporary - cathedral ceilings, catwalk, etc
