From ZERO to HERO - The October 2015 W.I.S.H. Challenge

Hey, just wanted to report in on a great piece that I just added to my puzzle: I joined the roller derby! I had my first practice/clinic/tryouts last night. It was so much fun! The girls there seem just great, really friendly and welcoming, competitive on the track but not against each other! Super supportive environment.

I met so many nice people-- basically all in the same boat, with about 20 of us new recruits ("fresh meat") learning to skate together, and pretty much everyone is there to try to improve their life, with pounds to lose and friends to gain. I was really nervous that my body wouldn't be able to handle it (I'm 44), but I did fine. It was very challenging physically, but I just loved every minute of it. We watched the cadets from 6 months ago, and they looked so good! It was cool to think we'll get there too. I'm so pumped! I've always wanted to be on a team like this.

I'm so glad I took the plunge! I've been eyeballing the roller derby for years. So so psyched I'm finally doing it!
Wow! Very brave of you and GREAT exercise while having fun....what could be better!

Okay...this is my whoohoo Wednesday. I attended the spin class at my gym! It was a super intense workout for 45 minutes. I could not keep up with the group but I kept peddling at my own pace and had to sit for some of the standing biking but.....I didn't quit! I really think it's too much for me just yet. I'm only doing 12 to 15 minutes of cardio so far. I think I'll work up to 30 minutes, then try the group again. I did great with my weights, which is critical for those who are aging...you lose muscle mass as you age....that's me....losing muscle mass...geesh! But...I'm loving the gym and I don't feel like it's a chore. I combine going into town with grocery pick up. I have to buy fresh spinach every other day or so cause it goes bad so fast. Lettuce too. So I'm working out and buying healthy foods. And....because I'm in the store so often (super Walmart) I get to see what's on clearance pretty regularly. I've gotten some really good deals! On with the games....I think they are so cute!

Morning all! Happy Monday! Good news..... DD is awake and doing well and they all made it safely through Hurricane Joaquin! They spent the night in the library. Apparently as of now, the main building has power (not sure if that is real power or via a generator), but the dorms do not..... but she has a hot breakfast on the horizon and the morning off from classes, so all is good.

Awesome news! I'm glad to hear they got through okay and I hope things are back to normal soon!

Good Monday morning, everyone! I hope everyone's weeks are off to a great start! Mine has been interesting. Went to bed sick, woke up with a migraine, running a little behind because we cleaned so all of my go-to clothes have disappeared, and I go to start my car and NOTHING... and, of course, DH2B is already halfway to work. Most likely (hoping beyond hope) it's just the battery, and thankfully my parents gifted me a portable/emergency car charger for Christmas a couple of years ago....... but, of course, it hasn't been charged in ages. :scared: So it looks like I'm home for the day. Less than ideal as we're implementing a new procedure at work today, I'm off for two weeks in two weeks, and it will end up shorting me on my next paycheck since all of my PTO is scheduled for wedding and honeymoon... But I also know that I NEED the extra day off - for my nerves, my sanity, and my projects. Plus my pup is pretty stoked to have mommy home with him. Here's hoping the rest of the week goes more smoothly than this!

That sounds like a Monday nightmare. I hope the rest of the week is better so far!

So let's take a look at our first October weekends! How did you do? Were there any roadblocks or speed bumps along the way?

Eh. My weekend wasn't awful, but it wasn't great either. I didn't do anything totally wrong, but I could have been better at watching my snacking and getting in a little more exercise.

Yesterday, my mom made a buffet of delicious game day food. I did better than I normally do but still ate A LOT more than I had originally planned. Fortunately, I plan on kicking it at the gym this week and still have some WPP left. Next weekend I'll be celebrating my anniversary so it'll be another weekend of food. It's pretty frustrating and yet no one is forcing me to eat. So I guess I'm just frustrated with my lack of self control?

I totally get this. Sometimes we are our own worst enemy. When you make a plan, it seems easy to stick to it and stay in control, but once you actually reach a temptation ... that's it.
I wish I had some advice to offer, but all I can say is tomorrow is a new day.

I was just talking to DH2B about the new prices yesterday. I haven't actually seen the prices yet, per sé, but I heard there is a new annual pass option that includes the Memory Maker package at no additional cost? I haven't done any research on the ins-and-outs and fine print and prices along with any of it, largely because AP's just aren't practical for us any time soon... But depending on the bottom dollar, that pass may be a heck of a deal! So sorry that you're looking at such a large, unexpected chunk. Especially near the holidays! :sad2:

From what I've seen, prices went up quite a bit, but photopass downloads are now included with most passes. But from the looks of it, its only your pictures, not family and friends ... so if you have an AP and travel with friends who don't, you have to put all the pictures on your MB if you want to download them.

Can I have a "woohoo Monday" since my Wednesday last week was terrible? We learned about an annual passholder loophole and were able to score a fairly decent discount on our annual pass predicament. It turns out that the local Disney Stores were still selling the Premium level pass. I went to our local store and got nearly the last two! This allows us to upgrade to Signature Plus level at the old Premium Price!!!! YEAH!

That is awesome!
These AP price increases as pretty crazy, so I'm glad you were able to save some money on it.

Today for lunch or dinner, your meal can be ANYTHING. Calories, carbs, and cost don't count. You can have as much food or as many courses as you like with NO repercussion. What would your meal be? If you eat out, where would your meal be from?

Um ... depends on the day.
Seriously.
I never know what food I want at all until I'm actually eating it. I'm weird.

I put in my two weeks today. When DH2B and I decided it was the right thing to do, I was all :cool1::bounce::woohoo:... but ever since I did it, I'm pretty much just :scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1:. DH2B got a promotion at work that came with a small raise, and several procedures have changed at work recently, and it was just steadily becoming a worse and worse place to be. With tickets and hotel covered, we think we've got enough in cash and gift cards for our Disneymoon, and we've got enough in savings to cover rent for 3 or so months... DH2B's checks will cover the other bills... I'll be added onto his insurance... I'm just panicking that there's something big we forgot about, or that I won't find even a part time job... I know lots of companies put their hiring on hold until the first quarter of the new year.... What if we run out of money between now and then.... AAAHHHHHHH.....

Congrats on getting yourself out of a terrible situation! Sometimes its really hard to know when to get out of a bad job situation, and I'm really proud of you for seeing that it was time and putting in your notice. I hope you get a much better job soon!

I'm almost all caught up ... all I have left is the QOTD. Which I will do later ... gotta go back to my todo list now.

Arg!!!

I had a nasty encounter with a jar of peanut butter tonight! It ended badly for both of us. The peanut butter got eaten....

I then proceeded to do my exercise DVD! Got nearly sick from too much peanut butter combined with exercise. But at least my Fitbit now says that I am still ending the day with a calorie deficit.

Not a woohoo Wednesday. But I guess my woohoo is that I did my exercise, even with heavier weights than usually and I managed to do the full set of push ups (easy ones on my knees, but still!).

Bad week all around for me. It's customer service week so we have food everywhere...snacks Halloween candy etc. Just hoping for a maintain week at this point. It hasn't stopped me from exercising but good grief!!!!!

Let's start off with our progress report for Week 1! SO sorry it's just now going up. I went back through the posts from the weekend and tried to grab all the %s I saw... Please, please let me know if I've left you off of this or the monthly participant list. I know I am missing a few people on that one. If I have a chance tonight I will go back through and update that.

So sorry! I don't think I even remember seeing an update from you... I checked all the posts Friday - Sunday but this group is so talkative, things are easy to miss haha! So sorry! What was your percentage? I'll get you added ASAP :)

Woo Hoo Wednesday - I had to buy lunch at work today and altho there is many things to choose (fried chicken fingers/fries/burgers, deli sandwiches, pizza and a salad bar) I picked the cooking light entrée today of Herbed Grilled Chicken and two side (roasted garlic/redpepper flake broccoli, steamed green beans, roasted red bliss potatoes and roasted root veggies) I got the broccoli and green beans so that I could eat some potato with my chicken I am making for dinner tonight.. Small steps

Great job!

Amazing job getting through that class! I'm so inspired by how you just picked up your plan right where you left off.

Hopefully you will have a Thrilling Thursday! Without the help of the seductive and always delicious peanut butter.

That's no fun! It's not too late to tell the candy to go find someone else to bother for the rest of the week. Woohoo on keeping up with the exercise!

Went shopping tonight and realized that I'm down another jean size -- size 6 Short at Old Navy. Purchased two pairs to replace my size 8 jeans. I think I'm 14-16 pounds from goal.

THAT IS MY WOOHOO FOR WEDNESDAY. YAAAAY!

I wish you all the best for the job hunt!! Seems like you made the right decision if your work environment was so poisening!

Second, spending lunch hours in tears is never OK. Clearly not an easy decision but the right one for your health and sanity. There will be other jobs! If nothing else, there is always the holiday retail jobs to get you through. If you can get a few resumes out now, it would probably be good to do so since companies take so long to process. But if it is just too much, get started as soon as the Disneymoon is over and all will be fine! Chin up!!! Only two more weeks left in that place!

As someone who has worked in a negative environment that left me feeling miserable every day, I have to say that I AM SO PROUD OF YOU and you are definitely making the right decision. It may seem scary right now but in the long term you will make the transition to somewhere much better and appreciative of your talents.

Start throwing in your resumes now, as it may take 3-4 weeks for postings to close. You may even hear back from someone right away. I've done phone interviews while at Disney World and it's been a fun way to bridge the awkwardness at the beginning and eventually slide into an in-person. One less stressful thing for you at this amazing time in your life.

You're going to be so much better off. Don't let the "oh no what did i do?" thinking cloud your vision; you did the right thing and you should celebrate and dance. That burden is off your shoulders!!!

WOWZA.... what a great thing you did for your MENTAL HEALTH!!! Congrats on making the tough decision!! IT WILL work out.... it was meant to be!!

Congrats on getting yourself out of a terrible situation! Sometimes its really hard to know when to get out of a bad job situation, and I'm really proud of you for seeing that it was time and putting in your notice. I hope you get a much better job soon!

Thank you all so much for your support and well wishes! :grouphug: Any doubts about whether or not I made the right decision are COMPLETELY gone, as I sit here and listen to the other two women in my department complain nonstop about me and how I do my job... which is funny because they don't like the way I do my job, but if you asked one of them to do it, they would refuse. :rolleyes1 One of them has only been in the office 7 minutes now and hasn't stopped griping yet. What makes it better is they apparently haven't been told yet that I put in my notice, and since I've been here a year and they have yet to actually speak TO me, I'm not in any rush to be the one to tell them. :goodvibes So that's fine, you keep on about how I'm "out of chances" and you're "at the breaking point" and "have to get stuff off [your] chest before [you] just lose it on [me]". I'm going to sit here, listen to Disney Parks on Live365, and cross days off my calendar. :thumbsup2

Thank goodness it's Friday eve, and then there's only one full week left here! The 19th and 20th don't count in my book - I have to be here physically, but that is wedding week AND my last two days, so I will be a million miles away! :woohoo:

I have already started digging around in job openings to see what I can find, and I've got some good ones to apply to. Definitely on my list for this weekend! I am SUPER lucky in that DH2B is so supportive - he is the one that pushed for me to finally take the dive. We've been discussing it for months, but were trying to get through the wedding and hopefully have something else lined up first. But it's gotten so bad here that he told me he'd get a 2nd or 3rd job until I find something else, whatever it took so that I could get out of here now. Definitely a keeper.

On the bright side, though PB might not be the BEST choice, you did get a good boost of protein! Congratulations on your exercise achievements! I can't do proper push ups even withOUT my belly full of PB :rotfl:

Oh no! Sending you lots of pixie dust that you'll have the strength to finish out the week without the temptation wreaking too much havoc on your progress!

OH MY GOODNESS, YAY!!! (and what a perfect GIF to go along with it! haha) SO SO PROUD OF YOU!!! Wear those 6's EVERYWHERE!

____________

I didn't share my WOOHOO yesterday, but this morning I weighed in at 200.0! 200 FLAT! I thought for sure I was carrying some extra around, so not only did I not expect to see a loss, I definitely didn't expect to see that number! That's the lowest I've been in at least 2.5 years. Maybe I'll make it to Onederland before the wedding after all!! ALSO, including today, only 13 days left at this job, and only 9 of them are work days! :cool1: And then it's wedding and DISNEY WORLD!

Today is your LAST CHANCE WORKOUT (so to speak) before our second round of progress reports for the month!
How will you use today to your advantage to stay on track and ensure - as best you can - a solid percentage for the next list? Are you planning an extra mile on your jog? Drinking an extra bottle of water during the day? Going to bed an hour earlier tonight so you get more sleep? Tell me your plans!

Yeah...I hear you....peanut and almond butter can be my nemesis very easily.....good for you that you did your workout! And with heavier weights!

Oh my gosh, amazing!! Congratulations!! I think there are few things as gratifying as going clothes shopping after weight loss! Yay!!! Great inspiration for me to keep working at it too, thanks!

Today I'm preparing for a family outing on Saturday night with my daughter and my granddaughter and her new boyfriend. We are going to Dead North....a haunted corn maze in Danville Vermont. We are having a meal beforehand. I bought shrimp and am making a spinach salad with my usual feta cheese, cranberries and walnuts. I'm going to the Oil and Vinegar store to get some new Balsamic Flavors. You can sample the vinegars and mix them with different flavored oils to try. It's like wine tasting but since I don't like wine....it's a treat for me....plus the vinegars are super delicious. 35 calories a tbsp. I'm buying fresh strawberries for dessert with some lite cool whip topping. I feel good about the weekend and will stay strong. I'm already thinking about Thanksgiving and plan on making my crustless pumpkin pie with egg beaters and stevia for sweetener. I made it last year and it was very good. 60 calories a slice. Everyone liked it, even people not watching their weight.

Woohoo! It feels so wonderful to get into another size, doesn't it. Keep it up....soon you will have to buy more new things! I have to go through my closet and get rid of more things that don't fit to make room for the new things. It will be so much fun!

OK, guys, I hate to have to be this person for a minute, but...

It's been brought to my attention that there's been some unfriendliness from some people in the thread toward others in the thread. While I'm not a mod on the boards, as host of this month, I do want to say that this is NOT the place for that kind of stuff. This is a positive, GROUP environment. If you have an issue with anyone in the group, or if you don't want to participate and be inclusive of and kind to everyone and answer QOTD's and give progress reports, etc. Then please take this opportunity to maybe bow out and consider joining back next month. Not saying anyone needs to be 100% in or 100% out, just asking that everyone be 100% respectful of everyone else in this group. We're a TEAM!

OK, back to your regularly scheduled programming. :goodvibes
