From WDW to DL With Love - January 06, 2011 part 2

Hi- I haven't been on for a while due to some family problems and also my computer has been out of service for three weeks. We are waiting for Dell to send us a disk to reload so I am using my daughters's computer.
By now I would of have everything done but my attention was on other matters. I hope to get back on tract now.
I called Disney and they wanted $370 back to Orlando. I called Delta and they quoted me $288-direct flight. When we did Disney coming back from Barcelona they sent us first to JFK and from JFK to Orlando. I am sure Disney is not going to send us directly back to Orlando. We will probably do our own with Delta since I have two $200 vouchers from them so the flight should cost us $88 each, but that doesn't count for the luggage that they get you for.
I also called to see if they have a land package for Disneyland after the cruise. I was told - not as of right now. I called DL myself and they said they are not booking for next year yet Has anyone booked? I was looking at Paradise Pier.

Is there anyone from CT or Fl going? We live in CT but have a manufactured home in Merritt Island- 5 minutes from Port Canaveral.

We are booked at DL afterwards on DVC points. I didn't realize they weren't selling cash ressies yet. I was planning to keep an eye on that for a good deal...might be worth it because the points for a weekend are high!

Are you planning to fly back to CT or FL? Or whichever one has the better deal?

Also, what area of CT are you from? What is your primary airport? Are you close enough to NYC that you wouldn't mind flying into JFK or LGA? I am currently tracking airfare for EWR, JFK, LGA, HPN and SWF. If I see anything good, I will post it here.

I used to live in southern AZ and I don't care if it is a "dry heat." Once you get above 105/110 it's just plain HOT![/QUOTE]

ok, well that's what i was trying to say! i realize it didnt come out right. 4 hours of sleep a night just isn't cutting it but nothing makes me sleep more right now. but yes HOT is HOT. dry or humid!!!

:( No. It would have been a 3 or 4 night, but it didn't work out. I was bummed, momentarily.

We will be flying back to Orlando after the cruise.

Is anyone doing private van tours at the different ports? We did some on the TA and the Med and they worked out great especially in the big cities . The vans got us a lot closer to places and we did not have to wait for a bus load of people. The cost after it was divided up among the 6 of us was less than the Disney tours. If anyone is planning on doing this, please let me know if you would like two more people.

Is there an easy way to answer this?? Probably not, but here goes--I was a science teacher for 15 years and now I (we) provide professional development to teachers in order to help them increase their science (and math) content knowledge as well as their teaching skills. Additionally, we have a contract with Disney for Disney Planet Challenge to write their sample science lessons that teachers can use when beginning the project. We also do the judging for the Challenge (as an aside, check out the Disney Channel this month as this years National Grand Prize Winners for DPC are being honored on Disney 365--it was a very cool project!). The combo require quite a bit of travel, so I am often moving from hotel to hotel. Right now we are in Long Beach working to prep the teacher leaders for all of the summer trainings and writing the curriculum we will use for those trainings--long days and LOTS of typing!

Ohh, Melissa, If you don't mind I think I will have to chat with you and maybe pick your brains. My kids are in a parent participation school (an alternative school, project based, constructivist theory) and I seem to have become "the science parent" in this, our first year, after doing science with our 4th grade kids. Maybe something to do with the fact I like science, but I know I am not trained in it. I believe it is an important topic and a lot of the kids in the school love science and I want to do my best as well as try and make science a priority for the kids. I know you are probably busy, but if you have any suggestions, pointers or help that you can pass on, please let me know. I could give you my email address so we could chat off line. I have agreed to run a 6 week rotating science enrichment class for 4th & 5th graders this year. That should be easier than a full year of science (every week practically) with 4th graders, but I am at a bit of a loss what to do at the moment.

I'm jealous!!! To quote Shakespeare, "the green-eyed monster is upon me!" I hope you have a WONDERFUL time!!!!

Thanks, I am sure we will. I just have this mental block in my mind at the moment as we are traveling home to see family and related things so at the moment is seems like it is more of a "have to go visit" trip rather than a vacation. I also don't like the 10 hour flighta! However we (ok I as official "Director of Planning") have planned so many fun things into this trip, that I am sure once it is here (in 18days! :scared1:) I will have a great time. DS has really got into Roman History too, so we will visit some Roman ruins in the UK (family live near the Roman Wall and Vindalana) and end the trip with a visit to Rome and Pompeii. Now that bit I am looking forward to as I have never been there!

When I get back its just about time to pay the final balance on this cruise and start planning that :cool1:. The PC cruise will be here before we know it!

BTW - back on the science topic. If anyone is interested, there is a partial lunar eclipse tomorrow night. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science_and_environment/10414201.stm.

I would be happy to help with anything you need. I have lots of resources and stuff that I could send so just let me know what content area you are looking for. Do you use CA standards? If so, I'm assuming you want Electricity and Magnetism, Rocks and Minerals, Ecosystems, Weather, Body Systems, Matter, and Astronomy? Since I am on my work email all the time, why don't you PM me and I will give you that address. I really hope you enjoy your trip..we had a wonderful time in Rome!!!

Good Morning fellow cruisers from a sunny Sotland

Been on the drink already today Lynne??;)

Granmaz, I think she had a nip:rotfl: with the Queen this morning!!

Lynne, congrats on the sunshine in Scotland:cool1: Isn't the heather beautiful on a sunny day? All my pics from our last trip were taken on cloudy days, then again it was a rainy September:rotfl2:so it was to be expected!

Hot & Sunny in Texas today...with a storm expected late next week:thumbsup2...just in time for the long holiday weekend!

I hope everyone enjoys their Saturday...we are off to enjoy air-conditioning & Toy Story 3:3dglassesD, if I can pull DH away from:happytv:Wimbledon!

Sunny and hot here in FL watching tennis and USA soccer later then work. Hope to get to see Toy Story on Wednesday.

I saw Toy Story 3 last Sunday. Oh my goodness, what a great movie. It made me tear up. I went to a 10 PM show so there would not be very many kids. There were no kids in the theater. I was not the only man or person for that matter to tear up. Also the whole theater appladed at the end. It really is a great movie.

Raining here, too. Just went out to the grocery for a fast pass through. Lamb burgers and Tzatzki for supper.

Our possible cruise in September fell through - the dates don't match up with when we'll be at the world.

Hope everyone's enjoying your day!

Beautiful, sunny and HOT here this weekend.

DH and I did the divide and conquer today. Both kids had birthday parties, one at a swimming pool the other out at a lake an hour and a half away. I got lake duty. We had a great time, but I kept putting off reapplying the sunscreen and I'm going to pay for it now. My back and shoulders are already lobster red.
