I can't believe that parents allow their children to act badly. I would be mortified if I found out that DD acted like this. In fact, if there was any doubt in my mind that she would act like that I would not allow her on her own. If I do find out she acted in that manner, her sign in/out privileges would be revoked and she would be confined to the cabin as punishment. We ran into her and her friends several times on the cruise in Dec and she was always on her best behavior even before she saw us. So, I have confidence that it will be same in Jan. If not, I will not allow it to continue.

I agree, my daughter is under the same threat...She knows that she must behave like a lady or there will be no freedom (or future cruises). In reality though, I would like to believe that she understands that one must not infringe on anothers space in order to have fun---The Golden Rule really is Golden! Anyway, for the most part, I have never had a bad enough experience to say anything (not that I would anyway, I'm kind of a wimp) so I'm sure all will be well:wizard: If not, I will have to use my "teacher eyes"...they often work without saying a word:laughing:

See that is part of our culture here at work. Use the Golden Rule. I apply it to each flight that I work. Of cousre every now and then I do throw the book at someone like I did yesterday. Yesterday someone tried to scam their way into the A 1-15 group. This person came up durring boarding of that group. Said that they bought the fair that is for the Bussines Select which you automaticly get A 1-15. Only problem was, on all of the boarding passes the fair basis is printed on the pass. I noticed it was a 21 or more day in advance fare. I told this person that. This person swore it was booked Bussiness select. Needless to say this person had to wait till C 20 to board and I made sure this person did not get on till after C 19.

Ahhh, if only parents were ALL like you - and not just on cruise ships!
I agree. Today I was shopping and I head an announcement "Please keep you children at your side". It's a shame when parents let their children run wild. Stores shouldn't have to make announcements, associates shouldn't have to say anything, and other people shouldn't have to glare.

Anyway, for the most part, I have never had a bad enough experience to say anything (not that I would anyway, I'm kind of a wimp) so I'm sure all will be well:wizard: If not, I will have to use my "teacher eyes"...they often work without saying a word:laughing:
Yeah, I noticed mostly good behavior on our other cruise but see it shopping and such all the time. I will say something if I see it putting other people or themselves in danger. If they are just totally obnoxious, annoying or distracting, I will glare. So many kids these days have such attitudes and as I heard earlier entitlement issues.

I feel very thankful that DD knows to behave in public

I hate to be picky but we got so sidetracked by cruise directors and misbehaving kids that no one told me if they know what happens if i pick a room that is designated as handicapped and then a handicapped person tries to get a room.
Do they:

tell them no without telling me?
give me an opportunity to choose another room (or refuse to move)?
tell me that i have to move?

I'd have little if any problem moving but wondered what the story is. thanks!

You might want to start a thread on the main DIS DCL page. I didn't even know you could book a handicap room if you weren't handicap.

I can tell you DCL will let you book the room, but you do have to get the medical form filled out then faxed over. We have done this for my mom a few times before. I forgot how long they give you to fax the form in.

I like Brent's accent.

Babies shouldn't be in the Cove though. And yes on my May 2009 cruise there was a guy hanging in the Cove with a baby. He was there more than once.

I have cousins from Melburne so the accent doesn't do much over here, probably because I am used to it. Maybe the guy with the baby was tge same guy from March 09.

Lynne, you bring up a point that I have been wondering about, and maybe some of the past PC cruisers can answer...When we were on the Mexican Riviera cruise in '05 there seemed to be a lot of miss behaved kids (and parents who allowed it) on the ship. There was this sense of entitlement that I had never seen before (or since). When I asked a cast member about it, she said that there was a higher level of poor behavior since coming to CA and she attributed it to CA (we do, as a state, have entitlement issues). My question is, have you noticed that with so many Californians on the PC cruise, a difference in behavior?
BTW: Please don't fillet me because of these comments, I was born and raised in California, still live here and have a VERY well behaved child. But, I do admit, parents here seem to allow their children far more leeway and excuses than I have seen in other states--maybe that is true everywhere, in which case I apologize.

Here are some thoughts on East coast vs. West coast kids.

I don't know to what degree this story is typical, but it might offer some insight. I brought a group of Northern California teens to a leadership program in Washington D.C. To my astonishment, our group immediately began to get into "trouble" and accumulate a large number of complaints from the local staff. What's more, their behavior was indeed out of character. Now these were great kids - our top leaders. And it took a day or so for me to figure out what was happening.

Our teens were accustomed to being treated with a great deal of respect by the adult staff - and were used to speaking their mind. As staff, we expected our teens to disagree and debate with us, but we also expected them to act as responsible leaders.

When they arrived in D.C. the local staff had certain expectations of teens in terms of their behavior. They didn't expect teens to disagree with them or to debate their point of view. They acted in a way that, from my perspective, was extremely condescending. Our teens, being unaccustomed to being treated in that way, reacted poorly - becoming obstinate and at times rude.

So, did our California teens have a "sense of entitlement"? Or were they "strong an independent leaders"? It would depend on who you asked.

Ultimately, I explained to our group that yes - they were being treated poorly, but they were guests and had an obligation to put up with what really was quite rude behavior on the part of their hosts. Once they understood what was going on, they did politely put up with it, keeping the gripes to themselves.

In later years I was able to better prepare the group for what we had come to see as a real culture clash between the east and west coast. Our teens, who were taught to stand up for what they believed in and speak up to power, had to put up and shut up in order to avoid being seen as obnoxious and rude.

Is there a real east/west culture clash, or did we just hit the jackpot? I don't know. But I'll bet that different adults would interpret identical behavior on the part of teens on a DCL cruise differently. What some would see as obnoxious or rude, other adults might see as perfectly reasonable.

Personally, I've never had any problems with maurauding teens on a DCL cruise, and on those few occasions where I had a minor issue (such as blocking an elevator), I found that a polite and respectful request made with a smile was always effective.

That's not to say that there have not been obnoxious misbahaved teens on cruises (I've read some real horror stories). I've just been lucky enoough not to experience them. :cool2:

I'm sitting here with my dog Samson curled up in my arms like a baby, and I've got to say, I LOVE DOGS!! They really are man's (and woman's) best friend! Of course, it is making it hard to type...

Another group of kids thought the funniest thing was to stand behind the glass elevators and make funny faces as you go by (nothing inappropriate)...I thought that was great...hanging out with your friends and having fun and not causing any damage or harm...
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Thats really funny.
Hi!

I love to plan vacations right---almost more than actually going on them! I received a brochure from Cunard and they have a Panama Canal cruise from NY to LA that leaves on January 13 2011 for 17 days and the sale balcony price is $3,495 per person. That is actually cheaper than our Disney price! I always thought that the Cunard ships were way expensive. Has anyone on here sailed any of the Queens? We are thinking of sending my in-laws over on the trans-atlantic one for their 50th wedding anniversary. They both hate to fly and they do both smoke (sigh) and they allow smoking in the cabins. An inside cabin is around $700.00 per person.

Also, there is a round-trip Panama Canal Cunard cruise next March for 11 days out of Fort Lauderdale---I wonder if it just goes half-way through the canal.
A lot dont go right through, actually most do a partial transit, my uncle and aunt done a partial transit.
I Really like the look of cunard, but the cruise/ship I looked at had diff classes on board, diff areas on ship for diff passengers, now even if I was the passenger getting everywhere I would hate this.
No dancing for me. There was not even dancing at my wedding. I don't dance. I have no problem going to Wavebands for a drink or four.
oh, well, a drink it i s.

Some one from our other thread was on a waitlist for ages for a handicap room, they eventually got one but I cant mind the deal, sorry, I didnt think they would allow folks to book handicap rooms either unless they needed it but obviously this isnt the case.

Good Morning! Hope you get Ruby back, safe and sound.

Lol,No, I am saying Mum would keep Ruby in a heart beat, they are all home and Mum has taken Ruby back to her house, the silly thing is Ruby was meant to be Mums, we had a disaster with a dog I rehomed from my work, it had a broken leg, a jrt, cute, nice little dog, owner wanted it euthenased rather than pay, I paid for fracture repair and mum took the dog, it nearly killed Mums cat, so it had to go to a rehoming centre to get a home iwth no cats:sad2: It really put mum of getting another dog,
I was looking for a beagle pup and was just going to GIVE it to her for her Ruby wedding anniversary, she found out and went mad, said she didnt want a dog, I was so taken with rubys parents when she was born I said I would take one anyway. But she is the sweetest calm loving dog ever, and Mum aint getting her. cause we all love her too much and she would miss Orly too much.

Well that's a relief. You really did sound so calm, so I presumed there was a simple explanation!!:lmao:

Ok, the actual list is updated. I'm still hesitant to start the official FE and SM lists as we've had 2 cancellations in this latest update (In addition to several additions)

As things stand:

223 people in 83 staterooms, travelling as 73 parties.
This is 9.29% of the normal guest capacity(2400) of the Wonder.
This is 8.26% of the maximum guest capacity (2700) of the Wonder.
This is 9.46% of the available staterooms(877).

I'm going to work on finishing out the navigators and the stateroom map today (Along with a couple of photos I can't do at work). I know I've been very slow lately, but things really ARE calming down. Swear :)

We had lots drop out at pif date on the trans cruise.

Hope you can get some down time, dont wast it all on us:upsidedow

Regarding the kids thing and the adult areas of the ship, I agree with Alan and others. It needs to be enforced, and enforced repeatedly and consistently. On the last cruise, just to take a look in Outlook Cafe, my wife and I took turns while the other waited with Jack outside. No kids means exactly that. No kids. Heck, we were even very careful with him when we hung out in diversions at a time where he was allowed to be there. If he wants to run around like a maniac and scream his head off up at the kids pool, that's fine. Deck 10? Sure. Diversions or dinner? No way (unless we are the ONLY people in diversions, in which case sure).

The one thing that I'll say though, is with the addition of the Outlook Cafe, I really wish that one of the two coffee counters would be made acceptable for children to be at, preferably Outlook. Not the seating area in either location, but just the counter. That way I could hop in with Jack, get my tea or hot chocolate, and go. That's all I ask. But that doesn't mean I'm going to ignore the rules.

I don't mind doing it. I just want to do it right :). If I set up all the other lists and we get a bunch of drop outs (and drop ins) that just makes for a ton of work. We'll see how it goes though. I may start the FE and SM lists earlier then PIF if things look pretty stable.

I know what you mean! Dogs are great! My Cinder Ellie loves to lay in my lap and then I love to cradle her like a baby. She is my baby!!!

We are going to Dallas next week and I'm going to miss her so much! And on the PC cruise, it will be so hard to leave her. I survived for 17 days last Dec with our trip but it was tough!
