I know, I just really wanted to take that one. Thanks Mr. President for messing up my vacation.

Jeff's a good Irish boy and loves Guiness. I can't stand the stuff. I however, was in heaven when a friend brought me back from the UK a 2 L bottle of Strongbow...
Damn shame we can't get that here!

A few questions...

Anyone from CA flying into MCO on Jan 5th? Is that cutting it too close? I was thinking maybe we should fly out on the 4th in case of any weather or luggage delays. Opinions?

Also, has anyone gone to Blue Springs State Park in FL? I ran across this while looking for something to do before the cruise.

The question isn't so much time - as much as: if your flight gets cancelled or luggage lost, how many options remain to deal with the situation?

The problem with Orlando from the West coast is that even a late morning flight on the 5th may be the last real option - unless your airline has a red-eye option you can use as a backup. Flights leaving on the 6th won't really get you there on time.

Also, there is no easy port to reach if you miss the ship - first available one I think would be Aruba.

So from California, to be reasonably safe, I'd either take a very early flight on the 5th (if my airline has later flights available as backup), or travel on the 4th.
Luggage is not so critical - assuming you have travel insurance that covers baggage delay. The important thing is that you get to the ship on time.

The nice thing about Orlando is that there are plenty of very reasonably priced hotel options and rental cars aren't too expensive. So it doesn't cost that much to come in an extra day early (another hint - stay at a suite hotel with a kitchen, then hit up walmart for food to save on eating out). :cool2:

We bought our tix last night..very good price on AA...I know we pay for luggage but even with paying for the bag and the price we got the tix for..it comes out to about the same for us as Southwest. Southwest was my first choice but I am not a good flier so I prefer a non-stop and arrival as soon as possible.

Our AA flight leaves at 8:30 AM and arrives approx 4:15 PM in Orlando..we are going in on the 4th. This way we have a day to get to our favorite rides and relax before getting on the ship.

It really just depends on your preference.

Thanks danfromca - I was thinking along those same lines as we're planning on using SWA and it looks like there's only one really direct route from Sacramento through Phoenix to Orlando, we'll see if there are more options when SWA releases their schedule for Jan. I have DVC points I could use to stay for the two nights so it won't add too much to our costs and we planned on renting a car anyway.

I would love a non-stop as I get sinus headaches when I fly, but no such luck from Sacramento, so I try to stick with only one stop. I think we'll probably fly out on the 4th too, but my group doesn't really want to go into the parks for just one day.

You should be fine flying in on the 5th. We are flying in on the 4th mainly because we are hoping to see the Dream.
We flew in the day before on our last cruise and it worked out fine. We are doing it again for our October cruise.

Des, which airport are you flying out of?

Good morning Lynne, Mandy and all. Beautiful here again too. Do you think this is it now???

Good Morning, Ladies! It's still chilly here, but we did have the window open last night. :)

I am having zero luck finding a room mate. 4 women *want* to go, but everybody's got an excuse :(

I'd be open to booking AA - but I have no clear idea what day we're going to fly out yet. We're actually thinking of Dec 30th and spending New Years there, then doing some general exploring before the cruise. But until we know for sure - SouthWest's policy on not having change fees makes it the best option. :cool2:

Oh, Alan, That's too bad!

Yup it sucks, but what are we to do? DW assures me that this one will not die as well. I do have a question for those how are DVCmembers and are thinking of or are sataying on board for the 2 day cruise to nowear. Have you seen or heard how many points it would cost? Just wondering.

Good morning all. Ohio is cool this morning but it's supposed to be 70 this afternoon so open windows here we come!:banana:

Is there a "better" side to be on for the PC crossing as far as pics are concerned? My balcony is on the starboard side, just curious.

I don.t think there is a "better" side for pictures. Our balcony was on the Starboard side and the Deck 4 picture was taken on that side, too. I only wanted to be on the Port side this time because that is the side the web cams are on. If we don't follow a sub maybe my friends and family will get to see us.

Here are a couple of pictures of the photographers at the Mira Flores Locks.

The funny thing is that the whole while we were pulling away from the locks the photographers were still taking pictures. I was wondering how they were going to get back on the ship when we finally pulled completely away without them. :confused3 Found out later they hitched a ride on the Pilot's boat. :thumbsup2

Good morning all! Looks like we are going to have nice weather here today. It's clear today (been cloudy last few days) but is starting to get humid and warm. Highs are forcasted to be in the mid 80s by the weekend.

We're waiting on SWA before booking flights. Their rates have been around $125-150 each way both to MCO and from the LA area. Other airlines are higher and with the 2 checked bags per person I know we'll have, that puts it significantly higher. We live in Houston but may fly out of Dallas if rates are quite a bit cheaper. For our cruise in Dec., it was $59 each way out of Dallas but $139 out of Houston. Since most of our family is in Dallas and we won't be able to visit them during the holidays (DH will be working all during the holidays), we can drive up a couple of days early, see them and just fly out Love Field if it saves us a quite a bit of $$$ (saved us $500 in Dec). We'll just have to wait and see. It was quite a pain in Dec but then again, it was just me and the kids as DH had to fly out/in of Houston due to not having the time for the drive to/from Dallas.
