From the Sea to the World - Completed!

Hello Magdalene! :) Thanks for the link!:thumbsup2 I am all subbed up and looking forward to reading about your vacation!:goodvibes

:welcome:

WOW- AirFrance rocks!:thumbsup2 I have never flown on a plane with an upstairs- very cool!

It is very cool - if you can go upstairs. And usually that's reserved for first class.

This was the second time I was flying Air France to the US and both experiences have been really good.

Reallly interesting reading about your plane and awaiting the rest of your adventure. We Americans need to learn from our European neighbors. We are so afraid to take even a week vacation, let alone 3 weeks.

:welcome:

The law of the European Union actually mandates that everyone needs to have at least 4 weeks of vacation time every year, here in Germany it is common for people to have 6 weeks. And if you get that much time off, you need to use it somehow. But unfortunately I know more and more people who have jobs where they find it difficult to take off for more than two weeks at a time.

I think the US should learn from Germany, everyone should get a minimum of a month's vacation!!! I know Dan will agree:rotfl2:I already get 4 weeks, but I could go for 6 weeks , mean lots more P &P trips :cool1::rotfl2:

Joining in as well. I'm so glad to have met you on this adventure! The plane did look spacious. It's still a wonder any airline still serves food. And your looked decent at that. Can't wait to read more.

Subbing myself.......can't wait to read more, feels like I was right there with you!!

Joining in. Looking forward to more! Despite the early wake-up call, seems like your trip is off to a great start! And in such style!! :)

Can't wait to read more! You speak great English, by the way! Love your TR so far!

We have been to Nuremberg (we live in Britain). We actually drove from Calais to Hungary one summer and spent two nights at the Hilton in Nuremberg. I loved the hotel, and the city! Our friends stayed in Regensberg (spelled wrong, probably!) and loved it there too! My dad's colleague visits Nuremberg frequently to drive cars, funny, haha.

Your aero plane food looks rather nice! Our last flight to Florida was with American Airlines and the food was dreadful. We are flying with British Airways this time so I am hoping it will be better.

Looking forward to reading more!

Is that a recent thing with regards to the EU law? I agree about holiday time- generally 5-6 weeks is common here in the UK, and even that isn't enough! ;) Especially when you compare it to the 13 weeks schools have off.

I have always felt bad for those in the US having little holiday time. We spoke to a man at WDW who only had two weeks off a year. How terrible! I was horrified. That must make it impossible to take more than a weeks holiday at a time. (Not sure about Germany but it is common here for families to take two weeks off in the summer and go abroad to Europe or the US. We couldn't function without our two week holiday!!! ;) )

Hi, Magdalene! Saw your link on Rosie's TR - excited to read from the beginning. I usually join late and rarely post, but decided it was time to come out of lurkdome. :thumbsup2

What a nice long vacation! The upper deck on the flight over was a great way to begin the trip. :goodvibes

Sure, teach me to go to the mountains when you post a new TR! Looking forward to hearing all about the trip! (I just got my 3rd week of vacation this year as it is my 5th year at my company...I'll get a 4th week when I hit 10 years)

Hallo :)

I am in! Love that you are from Germany! I took 5 years of German in high school/college. Unfortunately I lost about all of it! I did go to Germany in college though. We went to Munchen, Heidelburg, Koln, and Hamburg. It was awesome. Definitely my favorite country I have ever been to.

:welcome: I am afraid it will take me some time to work on this report... But at least this time I am not waiting on a slow co-writer to send things back to me, I can just post once the update is finished! :goodvibes

I guess this is something, we might go back to...

You know, even if you have 6 weeks, it does feel like it isn't enough... ;)

And I have to admit, that at the moment I find it dificult to actually take the time off and besided these three weeks I might end up not taking any other vacatio for the rest of the year. The good thing is that I can transfer unused vacation days into the next year, but I then still need to find time to take them...

Hi Laura and :welcome:

I think on the transatlantic routes all airlines serve food. Just imagine how trashed the planes would be if everyone would carry on food to sustain them for the next 9 hours.

Subbing myself.......can't wait to read more, feels like I was right there with you!!

Hi! Great to see you here and :welcome:

:welcome: Meg! The last time I flew BA was in 2003, but I really liked their food then. Hope they are still good! I really like flying BA; but unfortunately they do not offer flights from Nuremberg anymore.

Calais to Hungary is quite a drive! But I am happy to hear that you liked your stop here in Nuremberg. I really love living here as it is a decent size city which still is not overwhelming. And it is pretty! I always love taking guests on a walking tour and watch them being amazed at how pretty it is. If it had not been for the war (the old city was actually 90% destroyed in an air raid in February 1945) it would be even prettier. Before the war Nuremberg had the nickname of "Germany's Jewel Box"...

Regensburg is a beautiful place, too. Especially interesting as it was a Roman settlement and part of the city wall is actually still from Roman times.

I looked it up, it is from the 2003 Working Time Directive, but I am pretty sure that there was a predecessor which was already in place in the 90s.

Hi Christine! :welcome: Yes, I was so happy to get a place on the upper deck, it made the whole flight so much nicer!

Hallo Rachel! :welcome:

Thank you for the nice comment about Germany! I am sure if you had a reason to dig it up, you would realise that you have not lost all of your knowledge of German! So maybe you will get a chance to use it again in the future!

I guess this is something, we might go back to...

Maybe when you are writing your own trip report about that trip for which you have a ticker in your signature???

I am here! May take me a bit to be caught up being in Aulani at the moment and all but.... Can't want to read all about it! :)
