Day 6, 10/22/04
The cast
Me, Erika, 35, Disney obsessed for as long as I can remember
Dh, 37, lucky for me, while not obsessed, also loves Disney
Ds, 11, much like dh
Dd, 8, much like me, Disney Obsessed
Usually I am the first one up, with no alarm clock, since Im always so eager to get moving. Not today. Even though I fell asleep early last night, dh got up and in the shower first about 7:30. Thank goodness he woke up, I was so sound asleep I might have slept till noon. We are heading to the MK for the last time today, so getting an early start is really important. Once again, we miss the opening ceremony and the gates are open when we arrive. At least we arent heading for Dumbo this time.
We had straight to Big Thunder once again. This is once again, a walk on! We all 4 ride it once, then Alexa and I go again while the guys do Splash. It was so easy to get on the first time, she and I decide to go for 3! We finally decide 3 is enough for right now (though we could have easily gotten a few more walk on rides in) and call the guys. They are on Splash still, so we head over to watch them drop. Instead we run into our Brownie Troop leader and her family. I knew they were going to be there, as I had given her a ton of tips, but what are the odds, in a place that size, of actually finding each other. I had to take a pic of the girls together, as that was a once in a lifetime shot of them together in WDW. I ended up missing the guys drop on Splash. They called on the radio, and said they were riding again. Rather than wait around for them, dd and I went a took a flight on Aladdins magic carpets.
We go to meet the guys at the Haunted Mansion, with a brief stop in a pin shop of course LOL. We also saw Jesse along the way, and stopped for a pic and an autograph. We are making huge progress on the HM, dd kept her eyes open and looked up in the stretching room, and didnt jump at all in the ride this time. When were done, she wants to see Mickeys Philharmagic again, as do I, but Matthew is not so interested (what is wrong with this boy?? He cant possibly be mine LOL). He had asked earlier to do the shooting gallery, so he and dh did that, and drove the little boats by the jungle cruise. Everyone was happy this way. We meet back up and take another spin on the Tea Cups. The line was much shorter this time. We are so totally predictable, after this we grabbed a fastpass for Buzz and had lunch at Cosmic Rays, déjà vu LOL.
After lunch the line was pretty short for the speedway again, but dd didnt want to do that. The guys went and drove their little car and dd and I took another round on the people mover. We used our fastpasses for Buzz, with much better results this time. At this point, we decided it was time to leave the MK behind for this trip. I always have a hard time walking out of the Mk for the last time each trip, but I choked it in and we left. We took the monorail over to the Contemporary to rent a boat. First we took some family pics on the Mickey ears. What a great spot, I love these pics. We decided to rent a pontoon for the 4 of us this time, instead of mice. Dd didnt want to ride with her brother, so she tried to pout. It didnt last long. The pontoons dont go as fast as the mice, but its a nice leisurely ride around the lagoon, with views you can only get from a boat. You can take pics and have drinks and snacks on the pontoon, which you cant do from the speed boats. It was cheaper than renting to mice as well. It was great, we really enjoyed it. When you go over the wake from the other boats, its front end goes up and down just as much as the mice, dd had a really hard time pouting now, since we were bouncing up and down and water was spraying over the front of the boat.
We walked back to the MK bus stops to get back to the hotel. Another dip in the pool for the afternoon. Both of my kids can swim, but neither had figured out how to swim underwater, especially ds and he doesnt like to get his face wet. Somehow in the course of this trip, this was changing. They were both working really hard on swimming under water. They were learning so much and were so proud of themselves. It was an amazing beautiful day today, and I was talking to dh about my friend from the boards Torismom. She meets us occasionally on our trips, but couldnt make it this trip. Dh had brought out my cell phone to check in at work, and it occurs to me, Im gonna call her! So I had a wonderful phone conversation, poolside, and a beautiful day at the Boardwalk. What more can a person ask for?
After the pool we go to the Espn Club for dinner. We like this place, dh is a sports nut, and its our kind of food. The service is always incredibly quick too. We had our food within 10 minutes of ordering. The kids all during dinner are begging to go on a surrey ride (as they have been the whole trip, and the last one too). We did this once in 2000, and I had no real desire to do it again LOL. Those hills are killer! But, I said to dh, they are not going to shut up until we do it, so we did. Oh my. Two trips around the lake, and I am dead. I tell them their gonna have to peel me off the bike and carry me to the room. Dd was still to short to pedal, so we only have 3 people pedaling. To make things more interesting the path you would normally take by the Yacht Club is closed for a private party, so we have to navigate the sidewalk around the hotel. That was a challenge all in itself. Somehow I survived and even managed to walk away from the bike on my own two feet.
Good thing my legs still worked, since we are now walking over to Epcot for Illuminations one more time. I stop and get a glass of champagne from one of the Food and Wine festival booths. Yum! Dh gets a beer and we look for a snack. Again, we end up with funnel cakes and the line is the worst. I swear I could get on Space Mountain faster than I got that funnel cake. By the time I got it, we had to scarf it down before Illuminations started. It was much more crowded than it was on Sunday when we saw it. But, still just as wonderful.
