From homeschool to high school. When do we travel now?

We've flown several times on Christmas Day and the airfare has been surprisingly reasonable. We typically book evening/night flights. We get to enjoy Christmas morning at home and head to the airport about 2/3pm in the afternoon. One year we flew Christmas even and again airfare was ok.

I'm actually not terribly surprised by that. I think most people want to travel before/after a Christmas rather than on the day itself.

About when did you book these flights? I've looked at Christmas Day for departure and it's really expensive.

Good point. It doesn't bother us so we're happy to take our uncrowded, laidback, reasonably-priced Christmas Day flights.

The only drawback is that the week after Christmas is THE busiest, most crowded, and most expensive time to go to Disney. Still, we would do it again.

I think this would depend on airlines. I typically fly out from the US so flying from within Canada might be different. I've had the best luck either when flights are first released or 2-3 months before a trip. Good luck!

We are considering buying INTO DVC because of school vacation constraints! But, we also don't have an issue with traveling in the summer and during April vacation.

Might I suggest Canadian Thanksgiving, if you don't want to take your daughter out of school too much? Crowds should be low if you don't want to stay at Epcot resorts.
And also - do you have a winter break in January or February? We went in late February and 1st week of March and the weather was perfect.

After hearing from the pp that missing won't be a huge deal I took a look at things again. Here's the plan:

Travel over Canadian Thanksgiving as you said. There is a pa day the Friday prior. We'd stay twelve nights and she would miss seven school days.

Travel over Christmas break. Leave January 1. That is when flight pricing drops. Dd will stay one week, missing the first two days back to school. We'd stay two weeks. She is fine to travel back home on her own and stay with grandma.

This will let us get three trips out of the AP we buy this coming October.

Thank you to all who helped.

I have to make an appt with the high school guidance counsellor to see how her high school time will go. She is far ahead. It could all turn out that she stays with homeschool. When I spoke to the board a few years ago about accelerating her they were not supportive at all. I'm a bit concerned about how they will respond to her having multiple credit upon high school entrance.

Thank again!

Ps. Buy dvc. You'll love it. It truly turns WDW into a second home! Where are you buying? Don't forget to check out resale.

My friend homeschooled her daughter all through highschool and now she is continuing even in the university level. She's only 19 and already about 2 years ahead of her peers. If *I* had had the discipline and patience, I would have homeschooled my kids. I personally think it gives them a better education. I sent them to school mostly for my own benefit, not theirs.

That said, my kids have done fine in the public school system and both enjoy it so never had any major reason to pull them out.

Part of me thinks we may end up homeschooling right through. I'd like her to have the high school experience but she is going be so far ahead it may not be a good fit. She swims competitively and homeschool fits with that too.

We have nothing against public schools either. Ended up homeschooling because we moved and the schools in this district were poor. It was a great decision though. The freedom is wonderful.

Thanks! We are definitely buying resale. I have a poll up in "Purchasing DVC" - probably BLT to start, but I'm already accepting that we will likely have addonitis and buy a contract at BWV or BCV later so we will have 2 home resorts.
