From Europe to Africa in America - A Sisters' Expedition

We will ALL be coming- all 5 of us- at BCV for 5 nights. :goodvibes

Sorry I can't help at all with DVC, but Ellen is very knowledgable and a huge helper !!!

Aww...shucks, Rosie! That's so sweet- thanks!! I'm not entirely sure about the knowledgable part...but I do try to help...

First I learned about the Wilderness Lodge Tour from Cynthia's thread, and now this amazing culinary tour at AKL!!! :worship: Free is right up my alley!!! Especially free food.

I really enjoyed both our meals at AKL. But sadly, I was a neglectful DISer and your photo montage greatly outstrips mine. When I do get around to my food review at Boma, I do fear that the allears menus are going to be of enormous help!

I can say, I'd WAY rather have another helping of bobtie than one of those nasty Zebra Domes. (I know I"m risking being blackballed at the saying of that...)

I never knew Boma/Jiko offered those culinary tours! Sounds like something I'd really enjoy. Thank you for bringing it to our attention! How did you like French Quarter? Do you think you'd stay there one day?

Playing catch up over here.

Thank you for showing us Munich. I like hearing about the history too. Inever was a history buff but this hits a little closer than history since my mother is from Germany.

Culinary tour??!!! Another thing to add to the list of things I did not know about. That is what is great, I cross things off the to-do list and I get to add more right back on . :thumbsup2

Where is Edelweiss? I guess somewhere in the Alps? That should be a lovely place to visit. If there is anything you want to know for that trip, just ask ahead, I would be happy to help with any planning needs you might have! :goodvibes

It's in or near Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The resort is an R&R location for American military and their families. They offer annual/seasonal special vacation packages for military retirees and their families. My dad is former Army. We are waiting to see the summer/fall specials and hoping it will be for a time that Katie will not be in school, so she will be able to go.

Then you will be around the corner from me (and possibly Katharina)!! :goodvibes

Thanks for helping me out! I actually did post a question on the Operations boad during the weekend and was really positively suprised, how nice the people are there! :thumbsup2 It seems like the DVC bunch is generally very nice and helpful here on the DIS. :goodvibes

I am amazed how many people do not know about this tour... I guess since my first "home" here on the DIS was the AKL-unofficial-FAQ-thread, I just always knew about this tour...

And I really rely on the Allearsnet menues as well for my food reviews! And the receipts we kept. :goodvibes

And you can bash Zebra Domes as much as you want! I am not fond of them either... But then I am not a dessert person anyway. :goodvibes My father still loves to tell the story when I ordered a soup for dessert! :rotfl:

It is a really neat tour! POFQ was a very beautiful place! I think I would love to stay there one day. :goodvibes

I am glad that you enjoyed Munich! :thumbsup2

It isn't it wonderful how much there is to explore at WDW? I am happy that I could provide you with something new to add to the t-do-list! :thumbsup2

Wow, this looks really great! Garmisch is beautiful, I was there for the first time this fall, I wrote about it in this post. Garmisch really isn't far from Munich at all, by train it is 1 hour 20 minutes and you can get a group day ticket called Bayern Ticket for 28 EUR which will then be valid for all the public transportation in Munich as well. And there is lots to see in the area (including two of the big castles built by the Bavarian king Ludwig II: Neuschwanstein and Linderhof). This sounds like a wonderful trip! :goodvibes When I was in Garmisch for the weekend I really thought that I would love to go there for a vacation! :thumbsup2

If you have any questions about travelling in Germany and such, please feel free to ask ahead! :goodvibes

My DVC purchase is moving ahead! I am already in the Disney database, but they have not yet added my points to my account. This created a bit of a scare this weekend because two different persons told me that they could not tell me anything unless I had my membership number and that I would only get this by mail (which will take up to two months!). I posted on the DVC Operations board and some nice people helped me and suggested to call member administration. I also contacted the Timeshare Store, the broker I bought through, and they were as wonderful as they had been through the whole process. :thumbsup2

So I am planning to do this today and hopefully will get my membership number and then I can proceed to book next year's trip! I am so excited!!

If I everstrayed from Pop POFQ would be where I'd go!!!!Does anyone know of you have to stay at AKL for the Tours ???

Thanks for dancing with me!! :goodvibes
:dancer: :dancer: :dancer: with you too!!!

One comment about your earlier DVC question, make sure you understand the holding account process if you go the wait list route. If you get inside 30 days (31 maybe) and stay on the wait list, and it doesn't come through, those points will go into holding and you can't bank them.....you will have to use them before the end of that use year. Just keep that in mind, since it is a little more difficult for you to make a return trip normally.

Agree, most of my initial time on here was in the DVC threads also. Lots of very helpful people there.:thumbsup2

I am finally caught up again. Congrats on your DVC membership! We have become very spoiled with our membership, esp. having access to free laundry.

We took the culinary tour at AKL our last trip. I think it was one of the highlights of the trip.

Hello "A Sisters' Expedition" trip report readers. A little while ago I was fortunate enough to correctly guess the next resort that our intrepid travelers, Magdalene and Katharina, would visit on their trip and I earned a prize. Well, it arrived from Germany a few days ago and I thought that all of you would like to see what I received.

It's an Advent calendar (and Christmas card in one :santa: ), to count down the days leading up to Christmas eve.

Magdalene did a wondeful job explaining it, so I'll just be lazy and post a picture of her explanation. Plus, you get to see her beautiful handwriting, which is a rare sight on these internet message boards.

Magdalene, thank you very much for the Advent calendar. We will use it as we approach the holiday! :littleangel:

OOOOOOOHHHHHH I love German avent calendars. I used to get one ( with chocolate) every year and I now get them for my kids who are outgrowing them :sad2: but they humor me.

I used to search high and low and even order them on line but now our local grocery store carries them. :cool1:

Congrats Glenn!!!!!

:banana::banana::banana: I will banana dance DVC for you Magadalene

Thanks Glen! I won an Advent calendar too! Mine has pretty glitter on it and is now sitting on top of my fireplace mantel! Thank you again Magdalene!

Those are really, really cool!!! I will take a picture of the 2 Advent Calendars we have in our home(s) and post them. One is made by a Kyrgyz woman out of felt, and has little pockets for putting in little treats or candies or such for the kids to find on each of the 25 days. Another is one I crossstitched as the very first gift I made for my in-laws- even before we were married. I love them both, and think in general they are such a neat thing to use in reminding us of the season's anticipation.

We never had the Advent Calendars in England but I did use to get them for Judy as a child and they were hard to find !!Now they are everywhere .. soo the custom is obviously popular!!I did not realise they were of German origin so again Thank you Magdalena !!
