Here is my intro, I am 32 and currently at 250+ lbs. A year and a half ago I weighed 190 and was running 15Ks and half marathons. My birthday on September 2nd was my one year anniversary of running a half marathon in Virginia Beach and I couldn't be more unfit than I am right now. A lot of this has to do with the stress of my job (which I have now found a new one) and although that is not an excuse it is an easy scapegoat. This wouldn't be the first hole I have gotten myself out of though, I got down from 250 once before, I can do this again. My new motivation is that I have reservations for Easter break in 2009 and I want to be proud to be in pictures, instead of hiding from them like the last time I went to Disney. I also have a goal of running the Full Marathon at Disney in 2010. I want to run through all the parks. I am going to start back up with the Turkey Trot 5K in November here, do the Shamrock Run 5 mile in March, the Boilermaker 15K again in Utica in July 09 and do the Virginia Beach Rock and Roll 1/2 marathon in 09, as well as a few local half marathons here to train for the big one, the WDW full. With this being more than a year away I feel I have adequate time to train and lose the weight. What is amazing to me is how fast the weight drops off when you are running a lot.

I love the support on the WISH board and it helps to know others are working toward the same goals you are.

This time I am going to do thing somewhat differently though, I am ignoring the scale, yes I said it, ignoring the thing. I am not going to step on the scale, because then I get obsessive about it and end up disappointed when I do not see the number I want. Monthly weigh ins, that is going to be it. I'll weigh myself on the first of each month. Instead my accomplishments will be measured in miles run, days exercised and days of eating healthy, as well as clothes size. My ultimate goal is to get back down to 153-a weight I have not seen since I enlisted in the military in 1995. So essentially 100 lbs to lose in a year and three months. My short term goal is to lose 60 lbs by the time vacation happens in April 2009. Six months exactly, 2.3 lb loss per week consistently to get to that goal. :cool1:
Oh and my walking/running to Disney challenge, I need to go 1300 miles, we will see how long it takes me!

Today I started back with the exercising, tomorrow I need to work on the eating healthy part. No going out for lunch, no fast food, instead a sandwich and walk around the block if time allows.

Today was a good day, ate much less than I have been and am resisting the urge to snack after eating a fiber one bar for a snack. Did the elliptical for 30 minutes (2 miles) today and lifted weights for 20 minutes. I think my plan is to get into better shape on the elliptical before I start running again, because I tend to push myself too hard at times with the running. Thanks for visiting! Comments and encouragement are always welcome :)

Thanks! Today was a decent day, I have done pretty well with the food issues and went to the gym today, more of a weightlifting day even though I planned cardio, but that's what you get for going to the gym with a boxer! Tomorrow planning strictly cardio then friday a rest and back in on Saturday and possibly Sunday. Maybe instead a hike or something on Sunday if it is nice, the leaves are peak here and that would be nice.

Wow, I have never been a runner, but we share a goal, mine exceptionally smaller. I hope to run the 5k or 1/2 marathon in 2010. Best of luck on your journey :)

Hi there,
Sounds like you are ready to embark on your new journey.I am running the full this year.Maybe we can motivate each other as we go along.I can let you know how it went and what to expect for 2010.

One day at a time is all we can do.

Keep up the great work and keep journaling it really does help to stay motivated.

Well today could have been better, I did ok, I didn't do any crazy snacking. Worked 12 hours today so that doesn't leave much time for exercise but I will be going after an 8 hour shift tomorrow. I of course had to come home to my daughter having not cleaned her room for the 1000th time and I have just had it with that. I would go for a run right now if I was not dark out but it is too dark to go. I am so stressed right now and it is taking everything I have to not go on an emotional eating binge, but I am staying strong. I'm hoping to have a better report tomorrow.

Good job! Stay strong!

This early darkness is for the birds isn't it? I get what you say after a 10 hr day there is no way I can do anything either.

Yeah I have the same issues with keeping the room clean with one of my DDs.The other is very neat.

Have a great day!
Linda

Well I did it! I managed to stay strong and didn't emotionally eat, even when I was at my worst last night. Today was pretty good, did about 2.5 miles on the elliptical and helped my daughter clean her room. I just couldn't take it anymore. I can stand clutter but you couldn't even see the floor :S Thank goodness that is done, she had better keep it that way now :)

Keep up the great work! :thumbsup2
Sounds like you're on a great path!
BTW...I really like your counting the miles instead of the pounds. Nice focus.

:cheer2: :cheer2::cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Great job!

Today is my day to get the DD to clean the room!

Keep the focus, you are doing great.

Do you have plans to run anymore 1/2 marathons in the future? It definantely helps to have a date out there.

Linda

Today was pretty good, walked 5 miles and did ok with the eating, though I did go to my grandmother's for Sunday dinner. Got on the scale and even though I didn't do a start weight I have lost a few pounds which is encouraging. Thanks to everyone for the encouragement!

Miles to disney: 1288

Did ok today, kept the eating under control, it's been a week now, i'm back on track! No exercise today, due to being really busy but I am hoping to fit some in tomorrow at lunchtime.

Sounds like you're on track! Keep it up! I know you'll be successful.

Keep up the good work! Falling of the wagon happens sometimes and that's okay as long as you get right back on.
I'll be at the full in 2010 too!

Ok I'm back! Fell off the wagon for a while now but now I am getting back on track. I have been going to the gym 5 days a week and I have decided I am not looking at the scale anymore. I am going to gauge my success on how I am doing with my workouts and how my clothes are fitting. I think that scale obsession is one of my main reasons for failure in the first place. I have been eating well for nearly two weeks (once I get through week one i'm usually good to go) and feeling 150% better since I started going to the gym again. A new job and heck of a lot less stress is helping me to accomplish this as well! When I started on January 1st I was 260 and by my doctors appointment on the 5th I had lost three pounds. That was encouraging but I am vowing to only step on the scale when absolutely necessary! I have started back running again and plan on running four miles on the track at the gym two days a week and doing cardio/weights the other three days. Once the weather gets decent (in April) there is a nice trail on my drive home that is good for running. Odd years are so much better for me, and I really want to do the full marathon at WDW. I am a bit nervous about it but I have done a half marathon and will hopefully do two halfs this year as well as some other races. Here's to getting back on track!

Oh and since i've been doing so well I am sure I have done at least 15 miles since I started back so miles to Disney = 1268

Still going strong! I ran/walked four miles tonight and did some upper body. I have been pretty consistent with the exercise and doing good with the diet. I am not stepping on that scale until February 1st. I am hoping to be down in the 240s by then, I have 5 lbs to go to get there (I believe). I am going to do my run/walk on tuesdays and thursdays and do cardio/strength MWF. I just can't stand running on the treadmill, i'm glad I have a gym with a nice track to go to now.

I have lost 8 lbs so far! I feel 100% better and am finding myself doing more challenging levels on the elliptical and today I ran 3 out of my 5 miles on the track tonight. It is so much better running on a track than a treadmill. My next goal is not only to do the Shamrock Run on March 15thish but I would like to be down in the 230s by then. If I keep on the straight and narrow I will be able to accomplish that goal. It's only 13 lbs and 7 weeks away so I feel that is a reasonable goal. I want to be in the 220s for Disney in April. From March until July it will be 3 1/2 months until my next big race which I hope to be down to 200 for. That would be about 14 weeks so that is another 2 lbs per week staying on the right track. Doing the half marathon would be in another two months from that race, giving me eight weeks, and a 16 lb weight loss in that time frame would get me down to 184. And then the biggie, the WDW marathon. Staying on the same plan with a loss of 2 lbs per week would get me to my goal weight by the time I run the marathon in January. 4 months would get me to my goal weight of 153. That would really be incredible :) It is cool to set a goal and determine your path to that goal. When I joined the Army I weighed 153 and that is the goal I would like to get to. Who knows, maybe I would keep going after the marathon and get in the 130s, where I think a healthy weight would be for me. So there I am, thinking out loud again. There will be a lot of things to overcome on my weight loss path but I am ready to take them on!
:cheer2: Bring it on world :cheer2:
