Debating on which way to travel. May spend the night in Birmingham, then to Disney.

Go threw Atlanta? (heard traffic is bad)
Take 280 to Tifton, then I75?

Other suggestions?

What part of Birmingham? I've done the I-65 to Montgomery to get 231 to I-10 to I-75 and also the I-20 to Atlanta to pick up I-75. I personally prefer all interstate as there are no slow downs due to stop lights in the smaller towns. According to Google maps, the time is the same, but the Bham-Atl-Orl route is 30 miles longer.

It depends on where you are leaving from in B’ham. We live off Hwy 280 south of B’ham and drive to Disney often in 8 hours by going Hwy 280 thru Opelika-Columbus-Tifton-SR 520-I-75S-TPSouth. Safe travels!

I haven’t done your exact path, but I have done ATL to Panama City Beach to Orlando, and separately I’ve done Pensacola to ATL via Montgomery. I can see why there’s a number of other people around here who drive through Dothan, AL & pick up I-10 at Marianna, FL.

The theoretical map-app time for the three main route options, going through ATL, US280/GA520 (Columbus), or I-10 (Dothan, Marianna) are within 10 minutes of each other. Dothan/I-10 is 25 miles shorter than the Atlanta route. The Columbus route is an additional 30 miles shorter, but you’re on 2-lanes / off interstates for the longest. Since I value avoiding Atlanta (unless I have a reason to go there… like the Aquarium), heading down to I-10 and taking that to 75 is the way I’d go. I-10 is also quieter and more pleasant than the stretch of I-75 you’d be avoiding in south GA / northern FL.

I would head south to Montgomery, cut over to Tifton, and take 75 down. Atlanta can have very bad traffic, both going through the city and around the beltline.

Depends when you drive through Atlanta. I would go the route that saves me the most time. If a route that bypasses Atlanta is in the ballpark, I would pick that one also.

You must live close by. I was going to say the exact same thing. We also live off 280 south of Bham. We almost always go that way to Tifton. The exception is if someone is traveling on a Saturday in the fall. We check the home football schedules.

son lived in Hoover for a few years until recently so made the drive several times. Finally settled on 280 / I-75 as our preferred route . . .

We are in Hoover and alternate going through 280 Columbus to 75; 65 through Montgomery then Eufala over to GA to Tifton; or 65 through Dothan I-10.

Use your favorite GPS program (hopefully that tracks traffic) when you're ready to leave. Follow it's suggestion. What's clear right now (or backed up) could be the opposite in an hour (to say nothing about a day, a week, or a month in the future).
