Hello...

I have been lurking and reading for a while,
we are in the process of rofr...
once that happens I realize there is additionall wait with the rest of the closing and such, and I have read folks timelines....one question jumps out at me, and maybe its because I'm not a full-fledged member, yet.....
What is the SOONEST one could stay with their points? ressy for a month out?
two months? I did read about a 4 month window....
so hypothetically if one's point landed in their acct on aug 1st, what would be the earliest/quickest one could be at WDW?
thanks all,
Brody

August 2, if there was availability. Maybe I should even say August 1.

You are only limited by availability - no way to predict without knowing when you want to go (and even then no REAL way to predict, but there are certain times when it is very difficult to get a reservation anywhere near your travel dates).

As soon as you are officially a member and have points in your account, you could call that day and make a reservation for beginning the next day. In other words there is no minimum limit to when you can call to reserve and day you show up to start vaction. The 4 month rule you heard about concerns only trying to reserve outside of the DVC resorts.

Nevertheless the real issue you will face is whether you can actually get anything when calling to reserve close to intended date of arrival. It can be difficult many times of year to get a room when calling close to your arrival date simply because everything is booked up well in advance. Often SSR is available when calling close to a date and sometimes OKW but for others you just have to hope to get lucky because you face a high risk of getting nothing. Owners of each resort can call 11 months out for their own resort, then at 7 months members can call for any resort and you are often going to find that for busy times of year, one week into that 7 month window nothing will be left except for SSR or OKW.

ok, I see.....
we are getting a loaded contract with a Feb date on it..I was reading and trying to figure how soon we could really go..
we home-school so were thinking of going maybe 3rd week of sept if poss. I just wasn't sure of how short of notice, with flexible plans, anyone has done.....

That is not yet a really busy DVC time and you should be able to get something at one of the resorts.

Short notice trips are much harder, but definitely possible, especially if you are going at a time that tends to be less busy.

If you are a member by, say, mid August, you will still have a month to go. The great piece is that you are flexible as sometimes, just shifting one day can make a difference.

Good luck!

sounds good we were there in feb, and it was sweet...only spend 1 day @ WDW, but a couple nites @ DTD....there were no crowds!
thats kinda why we chose ssr, with its proximity to DTD..

so back to the question...we are flexible....thanks!

I'm in your shoes...... :confused3 waiting...... waiting...... wanting to book..... but waiting to pass ROFR. :sad2:

We want to get booked for January at BWV but we'll take whatever is available.

Good luck ! :yay:

we may have to wait to Jan...but we really want to go like sept....oct poss...but i'd rather in sept.....so waiting we shall do!

just FYI:

pts that are current 2010 pts for a feb UY would need to be used or banked by sept 30, 2010.

if you have any 2009 pts that were banked into 2010, they will expire if not used by sept 30, 2010.

(BTW, remember that UY month has nothing to do with calling to book a reservation. if you didn't get any pts until feb 2012, you could still call and book a reservation for march 2011 right now by borrowing those pts into your 2011 UY.)

This is not correct. For a Feb UY you would have still the end of September 30th to bank them but they may be used up until the end of January.
2010 points would not expire until January 31st 2011.
2009 points banked into 2010 would expire at the same time.

sorry-i misspoke.

you need to make up your mind whether to use them in your 2010 UY or else bank them by sept 30. if you haven't banked them by sept 30, you have to use them or lose them by the end of jan.

so end of sept would be our 'banking' deadline...... good to know, now atleast, while we still are planning......I really hope it will be wrapped up by say mid aug, so we can be calling!...we are hoping to do a trip this fall with the 6 of us,me, dw, 2-ds, 1-dd and a mil...bank what we don't use, a 'big' family trip next june with something like 15 or 16 total....with whats left over either again in feb for dd gymnastics meet, or another fall trip....

if we will be there say sept/oct this yr, def. in june with a poss of one in either feb or sept 0f '11 whats my best bang for my buck on ticketing?? knowing that we will be going a few times, the ap is where its at..from what I read your best deal is to get a myw ticket from UT and then upgrade after you use a day or so......would that then mess up your current ddp? or would you do it @ the end of your trip? I know this prolly should be elsewhere...I'll post there, sorry mods!
thanks all!

As long as you see yourself going into the parks at least 10 days in a 12 month period, the AP is going to work for you. We are now spacing our trips 51 weeks apart so that we can get two trips out of one AP. That means we don't have to buy them but every other year.

If you buy a ticket through Undercover Tourist, yes, you want to find one that the gate price will be less than the AP. You but it at the discount, use it once, and then upgrade to your AP at guest relations at any of the parks.

Good luck and I hope that you hear that you have passed ROFR soon so you can get your fall trip planned.

We are also waiting on ROFR for our 4th contract, and want to try and use some of the banked points on our upcoming Sept trip. I called yesterday about availability for the 3rd week of Sept for a 2 bedroom - only SSR and OKW had availability for the Thursday night of the week. There were several options for 1 bedrooms, we don't stay in studios, so I didn't ask the CM to check that! When did your contract go to ROFR?

i ~believe~ it went on the 12th....I could be mistaken tho....email is on other 'puter....
i'll update next time on on that one...

as far as rooms...
we need to sleep 6... 3 of which are adults....so I dunno whatever would work really...
