I'll be on the DDP. The Fritto Misto appetizer is $24 and it says meant to be shared in the description. Does anyone know if it counts as one appetizer or would it be counted as two?

Fritto Misto - An assortment of just fried seasonal vegetables, fish and cheese to be shared at the table. Arancini, Mozzarella, calamari, melanzane, asparagi, zucchini, carciofi - $24.00

Since it says it is meant to be shared it would require more than one person's dining credit. However, unless you are on the Deluxe Dining Plan, it will have to be paid out of pocket because the regular dining plan doesn't include appetizers. And if you're paying OOP, one person could order it if they wanted.

I'd be on the deluxe plan. Wondered if it was like In Mamma Melrose, where the antipasto for 2 counted as 1 app.

Unfortunately, no, Via Napoli is pretty strict about the rules of the dining plans. When I was there last time, the server specifically mentioned that the Misto Fritto platter required two people to be using DxDP credits if it was going to count as the DxDP appetizer. As the PP said, if you're paying OOP, then it doesn't matter.

The Disney-owned places seem to be the most flexible in terms of "for two" items. Some places are fairly lax, while others adhere to the rule. The best you can do is ask each time.

Thanks for the info!

Unfortunately not at Via Napoli. We asked and was told it would cost two credits. Just FYI: Mama Melrose will also allow you to get a virgin specialty drink as your beverage, but Tutto Italia won't. There your only beverage options are soda, tea, or water (not bottled water either). The Aqua Frescas are not included in the beverage choices.

You can't get an aqua fresca for you beverage on the deluxe plan? I was there in August on the regular dining plan and couldnt get one either, but thought maybe on the deluxe plan they would be a little more generous! I paid OOP for the fresca, and boy was it worth it on a hot August afternoon. I don't think I would ever go back to Disney in August! I was lured in by the free dining plan, but who feels like eating a lot when you're so damn hot?! :beach:

All the dining plans include a non-alcoholic beverage such as coffee, tea, soda, or lemonade all of which have a value of about $3. Any specialty drinks are excluded and the Aqua Fresca is a specialty drink that costs about $5.

Via Napoli is a third party restaurant and is paid by Disney per the Dining Plan guidelines. It tends to be the strictest restaurant in terms of following those guidelines. Disney owned restaurants are much more lenient - as far as drinks we've gotten milkshakes, smoothies and virgin cocktails at some places.

can confirm both points...have ordered it twice at Via Napoli, and for sure the fritto misto does take 2 people's appetizer credit on the DxDDP (and really, it is a HUGE appetizer, more like for 3-4 people instead of two. We have never been able to finish it)

Also can confirm nothing but the regular soda-fountain drinks (Coca-cola products) or tea or regular coffee (not cappacino) were the only allowed drinks. Twice we have been told it was ONE beverage allowed (no refills), the other time we were there the waiter just brought refills and there was no additional charge so don't know what they really do with that. But do know in the 3 times we were there, they absolutely did not allow bottled water, Italian sodas, or cappacino for dining plan beverage (someone in our party asked all 3 visits we were there.)

How are they on substitutions? I'll be with my teenage son and neither of us like sea food. Wonder if they would do it if I asked to leave off the seafood from the platter and add some componata instead. I really want to try the componata. It's certainly cheaper than the seafood.

our experience there is they are not good at all on substitutions...as in, NO WAY. The attitude is "our talented professional chefs came up with this wonderful combination for your enjoyment and it would be an insult to our chef to even ask for it to be different" All this, or something like it, was said to us...granted, it was in a lovely Italian accent by a very hunky Italian waiter, but the bottom line was no change, no substitution on the pizza or the salad we were asking about.

That's what I figured. I remember reading they weren't very accomodating in that area. Hmmm....maybe I can claim seafood allergy ;-) Yes, the waiters were VERY nice to look at!!

Overall, I'd say not very willing. You can ask, but since the caponata isn't part of the dish and is offered as a separate appetizer, you might have to order it separately.

The Fritto Misto is a really large appetizer - we had 3 adults and felt it could easily serve even more. Since the DxDDP includes so much food, this might be your chance to try some smaller appetizers such as the caponata and the Fritto di Verdura (crisp fried veggies).

I wanted to try the componata and the fried veggies, but my son loves the arancini, so figured the platter was the best way to go since it has a little of everything. Well, everything but componata

Well, if they won't substitute you can always order the Fritto Misto on the DxDDP and order the caponata OOP. The arancini was very good.

Not good at all. The second time I ordered the quattro pizza, I asked if I could have extra eggplant or ham on the mushroom part instead of mushrooms and was told no. It had to come with mushrooms. I then asked if they could just leave the mushrooms off and have just cheese in that part and was again told no.:confused3 The waiter acted insulted that I'd asked and told me that if I didn't like mushrooms, I might just want to order something else then.
