We will be staying at the poly next week and have some friends that want to spend the day with us at the pool one day. Is that something that is okay with the resort? Anything I need to do to make it easy for them to get past the gates?
Regarding friends/family visiting at a resort, I als have a question. We will be staying in a 2BR villa and taking the express bus from the airport. Can we register a family members car at the resort? Can a family member stay in our room for a night?

You should read the sticky at the top of this forum titled 'using pools at other resorts'. I have also read that the Poly is using wrist bands to identify guests of that resort and to keep nonguests out of the pool. I'm pretty sure that there are signs up at each resort saying something to the effect that resort pools are for the use of guests of that resort only.
Non guests can not swim at the pool, etc. They do check for room keys & will give bands to you & will ask those without resort keys to leave. So no it is not okay. Also warning this is a hot button topic.

The parking pass will be in your packet at check-in. Everybody gets one; you can ask for additional ones at check-in if needed. The front desk will not even know you have arrived on ME.
You should at least register them. I don't believe the villas will have any additional adult fees associated with them, but it is good for the resort to know there are extra guests in your room in case of an emergency.
Please relax. It was a fair warning. The PP was not chastizing the OP. They were giving them fair warning that this is, in fact, a hot button topic in order to prepare them for any snarky replies. And then you jumped in with your own snarky reply. Geeze.

You are right. I apologize. I've just honestly had my fill of the flaming that's going on over here and I have a pretty good feeling of what's going to happen within this thread.

For someone with so few posts, they don't realize that we "old-timers" are just trying to prepare someone what could occur.
Things like pool-hopping and reusing refillable mugs might not seem like much to newbies and it is up to us to politely tell someone that they may be in for a ride.....I felt the poster did politely tell them.
OP, see our Pool Hopping FAQ at the top of this board for more information.
In short, your friends may visit you at the resort, but Disney resort policy is that pools are only for use by registered guests of the resort.
You can ask the lifeguard for an exception, and permission to have your friends join you at the pool, but this isn't something that can be done ahead of time, as it will depend on how crowded the pool is. The lifeguard has control of the pool area, and it will be their decision.
Note that even if the pool doesn't appear crowded, they still may not grant an exception. The Poly tends to be one of the stricter resorts when it comes to pool use, since they're often 'crashed' by MK visitors looking for a place to swim.
