Thanks to all the people who never read the original thread but are so very concerned that people might have been scammed. You are so very right to jump in and post in support of the webmaster's right to do whatever he or she might wish. This is, after all, a commercial board, supported by a for-profit business, and the webmaster has EVERY right to delete posts and threads of which he or she doesn't approve.
Luckily, in this case, the OP and many others have posted to this board for literally many months or years. It was very easy to look at posting histories and figure out that there was no scam, especially considering that the OP requested IDEAS rather than money, and others freely offered to help based on our own goodwill (something that people seem to have trouble understanding).
I am thrilled to hear that the family will have a wonderful Disney vacation.
You know, I do a fair amount of charitable giving and also donate regularly to political causes. Every time I write out a check, I wonder if I am doing the right thing, for the right cause. How much money is going to administrative overhead or inflated CEO salaries (yes, even for charities)? How much money is actually going to people in need? Are the toys I buy for foster children really going to foster children? Would my money be better spent if I gave it to a different charitable group/polictical group/individual family?
All important considerations, but no excuse to not give. You can't get so mired up in fearing the worst that you don't give to the people, organizations, or causes that warm your heart. Each of us needs to look very deeply at the causes we give to and make sure they are legitimate, whatever they may be, but make sure we GIVE.
I am honored to have been part of this. Thank you, OP, for posting about a family who wanted the best for their child. Your posts warmed my heart.
