My friend blacked-out today and had a convulsion during health class. Another friend of mine told me that this has happened before. Should I be worried? I'm already starting to worry because I heard that blacking out can kill you if not taken care of properly. I went to the office to see if she was okay or not and the lady there said that her mom picked her up and that she was okay. She was looking really pale and stuff before this happened and I'm freaking out! :scared1:
Can anyone tell me if I'm over-reacting or not- it's just that I don't want her to die.:sad1: Also, could you please pray for her? She is a really nice person and doesn't deserve what she's going through. Some other kids were even laughing about the convulsion thing and being just plain rude about it!:headache:

It is so nice of you to be concerned about your friend. I would be frightened as well. I am guessing that your friend will be fine. If there was something life threatening, an ambulance would have been called. Try not to worry too much.

There are many reasons your friend might have blacked out. When she is feeling better and you have a private moment, you might want to ask her about it. Ask her what you can do for her if it happens again.

I hope your friend is feeling better, soon. :flower3:

Thank you for your concern, although we have been growing apart lately, I still wouldn't want anything bad to happen to her. I'm starting to calm down now though.

 This must have been very upsetting. I have a son who is 14yo who has epilepsy. Even though I have been a pediatric nurse for over 30 years and have seen literally hundreds of children have seizures, I never get used to seeing my son seize. It takes my breath away.

Now, there are a lot of things that will cause a young lady to pass out--dehydration, severe menstrual cramps, and stress can do it. There are some more serious things that can cause fainting and can look like seizures--sometimes they are real seizures and sometimes they are something else. I'm sure your friend's mother will talk to her doctor about it and hopefully, have her evaluated.

My oldest son, DS23, had a similar episode when he was a senior in HS. One day in Lit. he just shot out of his chair and fell to the floor unconcious having a seizure. It terrified the whole class. When he came to he didn't know what happened and didn't recognize the teacher. I had the school call 911. At the hospital they gave him IV fluids and ran some heart tests to make sure he hadn't had some funky heart rhythm. A pediatric cardiologist(heart specialist) came to the ER to personally check him out--thankfully, his heart was fine. He finally perked up and starting joking about 2 hours later so they let him go home. The next day we took him to a neurologist to test him for seizures--again, the EEG and MRI were normal. What a relief! Anyway, they finally decided that he had probably had some kind of random seizure, but that it didn't seem likely that it would happen again since nothing checked out badly. And that was it. He has never had another one.

I hope your friend also has a good outcome. Maybe you can talk to her in a few days and let her know you care. She might be a bit embarrassed,so don't take it personally if she doesn't want to talk about it. But she'll know you're thinking about her and she might feel like talking at a later time.

My dd used to just drop, for no apparent reason. This happened so many times that we finally took her to the pediatrician. The pedi in turn sent us to a pediatric cardiologist..just to be sure there was nothing serious going on. My dd was about 13 at the time. Well...long story short, it seems that my dd is one of those young ladies who is predisposed to fainting when having her hair done!! Yep, believe it or not. It has something to do with the nerves in the scalp and pressure on them. If her hair was being curled or dried, or braided...often times she would get faint.
But, she also seemed to have an issue when she was stressed. But, that hasn't happened in a long time. I truly think it had something to do with her age and hormones, and stress of being a teenaged girl.
I hope your friend finds that it is something pretty simple that is causing her to faint. I know that when my dd fainted, her eyes would roll back in her head and she would start drooling...it was really scary.

Thank you all for caring. I didn't actually see the convulsion part but I did hear a big bang when she apparently banged her head on the desk while she blacked out. She woke up for a few seconds, crying because of the pain in her head from hitting it so hard on the desk, and then blacked-out again. (I actually saw the last part.) I just went numb all over when I saw that happen to such a sweet girl like her. Some jerk actually had the nerve to say that it was funny and that it would've been even funnier if she had DIED!! I can't stand him! What right does he and those other jerks have to be so cruel!? I just don't understand it...:sad2: Also I'm sorry that both of your families have to go through that. :grouphug:

Well, there's one in every crowd. Teenage boys have pudding for brains. It sounds like nobody ever taught him manners--or at least, he doesn't use them. What a maroon!

I know, but even teenage boys with pudding for brains usually have their limits, still, I guess there's nothing I can really do about him, so I might as well build a bridge and get over it...

First off I hope your friend is ok. This happened to one of my friends in jr high and i think the worst part was the embarrassment for her!

Second off, helloooo from across town! lol. I saw one of your posts on another thread and saw you were from Belpre and I'm from Parkersburg...

Best Wishes for your friend.

Happened to me. In high school. Thankfully it was an all girls school. I fainted with convulsions 3 times. The first time was the worst.
I was so sick afterwards.
I went for a million and one tests(MRI, Cat scan) and at the end of it they determined it was "hormonal". Really just a guess and I did grow out of it. Here's hoping your friend is doing better already. That all happened when I was 16 (and I'm way older than that now!:rotfl2:)
