Fried fish vs Fish and chips what's the difference

Okay I know this seems like a silly question but from the few pictures I've seen I couldn't really tell the difference between what I traditionally know as Fish and Chips and what some of the restaurant menus call fried fish. Could someone please help me out Thanks.

Just my perspective being a deep south girl that likes my fish fried with a *very light* fish fry/flour cornmeal batter, the ones that I had at Rose & Crown's CS were heavily battered and very greasy. Don't know if that's the norm or not, but will not be getting them again.

I think the way they serve them in a lot of restaurants is with a heavy batter, but I think the term *Fish & Chips* is just the British way of saying fried fish and french fries

Same thing Fish and chips is fried fish and french fries which are called chips in the UK typically the chips are little different than traditional skinny fries more like a little thicker steak fry here but the fish is still fried!

I think of fried fish as having a thin coating on the outside. Fish and Chips fried fish has a more substantial, crustier, crunchier coating. Just my opinion.

Fish and chips have a beer batter and fried fish is usually a lighter batter or just a crumb coating.
