Fridge Swap?

I remember a few years ago on the boards people did fridge swaps (start with one person buying a mini fridge, leave it for the next person, etc.). There was a sign up list in this forum and everything. Is that still done? Thought it would be useful to ask since there will be no refrigerators for a few months (hearing 3-4 months).

I believe the DISBOARDS rules specified that no money could change hands, meaning there couldn't be fees collected or purchases made. Swaps were allowed for a long time, but were voluntarily stopped because:

1) The fridges would disappear regularly after pickup or between uses in storage.
2) WDW resorts put fridges into resort rooms at no extra cost, eliminating the need for swaps.

I was planning a trip when the WDW installations took place. Several of the fridge swap coordinators found their fridges went astray or that no one was interested in continuing the effort. The DISBOARDS staff did not post anything saying there was a ban fridge swaps or that they weren't allowed, iirc.

If you have proof that they're not allowed at all, please post the link so no one starts a swap in error. Perhaps a disboards staff member can chime in to clarify the policy.

I believe the ban is on money changing hands. If someone wanted to start a swap by purchasing the fridge outright and then donating it to the swap, I don't think that was prohibited.

I feel stupid asking , but can someone define "fridge swapping"? I can honestly say I've never heard the term before but I notice it mentioned quite often in posts? Thanks in advance

Recent posts? Probably not.

Disney put refrigerators in the Value Resorts a couple of years ago. There is no longer a need for people to purchase and pass along used dorm-size fridges.
