Are Southwest and Air Tran cheaper on Saturdays to fly? we booked our trip Fri-Fri and now I'm afraid I'll pay more in flights.

Can't vouch for Air Tran, but Southwest usually charges a premium to fly on Friday or Sunday to most destinations. I don't know if that is *all* destinations, but it seems to be true for the places I travel! *LOL*

Check the Southwest website and try various combinations. After you select your original dates, there are tabs for a few days on either side.

Pretty much universally true on US domestic flights to/from any kind of resort destination -- Friday after noon and Sunday after noon are the most expensive days/times to fly.

As a general rule, if it is not a holiday period, the cheapest days to fly are normally Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday.

We have flown Friday nights many times and got great deals. Best part is that my kids can finish a full day of school then quick head to the airport. We crash at the Hyatt in MCO and wake up well rested and in FL. If we were to fly down Sat am, we'd either have to get up before the crack of dawn or waste half the day getting to FL. Kids and I are not morning people so we do better staying up late.

Just shop around. We usually book airfare before booking the rest of our trip that way we can mold the hotel around the cheapest travel days. Normally with AirTran from our home airport (PWM) it seems that Tuesday and Wednesday are the cheapest days to travel. This upcoming trip in May, Friday airfares were actually pretty low for going to MCO. However we chose to come back on Sunday and the airfares on Sunday are higher than on other days.

As ancestry points out with PWM that Tuesday and Wednesday are cheapest (totally agree), we fly out of PWM to MCO on Sunday May 23 with a fare of 78 (one way). I find with airtran (and Jetblue), if you buy early enough you get the deal. Continental on the other hand has its best fares on Tuesday.

When you stay at the Hyatt, do you still use ME the next morning? If so, do you have ME hold your luggage over night?

We usually stay offsite and rent a car or stay onsite at USO.
Last trip we stayed at WL & used ME and got to our room 11:30pm from an 8:20pm plane arrival. :headache:

I would like to know this answer too. Also, if you have a 6AM flight can you leave the night before, take ME to MCO, stay at the Hyatt and just get up and get on your plane? I would think that would avoid the "pain" of having to get up for ME at 3AM...

We took ME back to MCO just to rent a car to drive to PC for our last cruise. I just chose a flight to put on my ressie keeping in mind that p/u time is approx 3 hrs before the flight.
You may not be able to find a flight that will get you an 8pm p/u time.
Hyatt is awesome for early am flights. It's a 50' walk to security! :cloud9:
