For some Disney dollars! A friend of mine did that before vacation. Every time she got paid, she would go buy some Disney dollars. That way it forced her to save the money for vacation, and part of it was already paid for. I thought it was a great idea!

Hey fan...we'll be at WDW during the same week and I also used to live in Indiana, small world... I think the Disney Dollars are a great idea :thumbsup2 . I was thinking about getting some to use at the parks for purchasing lunch/dinner and that's a great idea to purchase them a little at a time. We are staying at SOG, so don't have the DDP, so we've been budgeting on how much we'll be spending.

Each trip, we usually gift some Disney Dollars to our DD to buy whatever she wants and parents have no say, but now that she's older, she's more sensible about what she buys.

Maybe we'll see you around the Kingdom!

Huh, never thought about doing that. It's a great idea!

I do the same thing. We buy Disney Dollars before our trip and use those for ice cream treats and drinks at Epcot. It's a good way to save for the trip. I do wish Disney Dollars would come in $20 bills, though.

There is a new gift card you can buy at The Disney Store that'll act like a gift certificate at WDW. I'm thinking of buying one to use for a table service meal. I like having as much of our vacation pre-paid as possible, and it'll be nice to treat ourselves to a ts meal that won't be direct $ out-of-pocket during the trip.

My kids also get Disney Dollars from Santa, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy. They save their money for souveniers. :goodvibes

I'm new to Disney Dollars so I'm assuming Disney Dollars are just that; dollars in the form of Disney. Do they come in any denominations? I was thinking of getting some for our DS4 at our local Dis store before our trip in 3 weeks.

Thanks :)!

phantom- we leave the same day! We're staying for 6 days. When did you live in Indiana, and where? We're in Greenwood.

pixie dust- I wasn't aware they also had a card now. I'll have to look into that.

cybrkitn- I'm not positive, but I think the dollars come in $1, $5, and $10. They're paper money with characters on them, and spend just like money, but can only be used for Disney items. You can use them at WDW for snacks, meals, souvenirs, I think just about everything!

I do the same thing, whenever I get paid I go get Disney dollars or now just add it to my gift card. Be aware that the front desk can not use the gift card yet but they will take the dollars. The dollars are $1, $5 and $10. I do love feeling that I paid for everything already.

We are staying for 9 days and are traveling with MIL/FIL. I lived in Indiana from 1984-1991 and lived in Warsaw, which is up north. We moved shortly after graduating from HS. One of my good friends from HS lives down outside Indianapolis. My best friend has left Warsaw and now lives in Orlando and works for TL, so I'm always excited to visit WDW.

That's an awesome idea! I'll be at Disney in a about a month and was thinking of getting travler's checks, but Disney dollars sound more fun!

I love disney dollars!!!!! We saved up 600 disney dollars for a trip that we just returned from. What a great way to save money for your trip. We save extra change and pop can deposit money- it adds up fast!!!!!!

I have heard that idea too - I should do it. . . maybe the next trip (not the one I have planned for Dec). . . . That way that money can ONLY be spent at Disney!

Thanks! I talked with my DH a few minutes ago about it. He likes the idea and I think it will make our DS4 feel very special. I suggested that one of us go alone to pick them up. Our son doesn't know he is going and will get curious if we all go to the mall to pick them up.

Okay...now what if you don't spend ALL your Disney Dollars? Can you exchange them back for cash?

Maybe I should start doing that! The way my DH drinks soda you'd think there was a shortage :rotfl2: !

I believe that either the hotel or guest services in the parks will trade them back for real dollars. They will also spend in the Disney stores around the US but be aware that I have checked with two Disney stores in my area and they won't trade them back. In fact one of them wouldn't even give me change when I bought something - they insisted that I pay the exact amount of the item I was purchasing which I thought was crazy. Their explanation was that they don't sell the Disney dollars so they couldn't make change. I just think the girl didn't know what she was doing - it was a new store. I don't know if that is the case with all of them but if you want to cash them in do it before you leave WDW.

I have used Disney Dollars as a reward when my son was having difficulty in school. At one point I even had the teacher tape one on his desk to serve as a reminder that we were going to disney which is a privilege and good behavior is an expectiona to earn that kind of Privilege . Worked great and he had spending money that I would have ended upgiving him anyway. Also reminded friends that 5/10 disney dollars made a great birthday and christmas present. They were grateful for the tip.

They are really cute, too, those Disney Dollars. DH and I play a card game we call Scat for Disney Dollars. Funny, tho, I kick his butt if the pot is under $5.00 or so. Guaranteed he kicks MINE when the pot is large. No big loss... I'll be spending the money either way once we get there!! :rotfl:
