Where do DVC members stay on friday and saturday nights if they don't want to use the points on the weekends? Am considering off site but our family has really enjoyed the Contemporary Tower Magic Kingdom view in the past. Thanks.

We stay on property somewhere. We have stayed in one of the moderates, we have stayed at the Swan/Dolphin using the nurse/teacher/govt employee rate. We have stayed in some of the deluxes if I can find a REALLY good rate. It's always on property though.

Paying cash for the extra night is one option.

So I could extend our trip an extra day last year, we stayed one night at Holiday Inn Family Suites. It was nice, but definately no where near the Disney Vacation Club standards that I am spoiled by.

Last year we got real good rates at Royal Pacific at Universal. The FOTL bennie was great!

Next major trip we are looking at renting a condo for the daily rate at clearwater or Daytona, just to go relax on the beach.

If we make it down in Dec.. perhaps we will try Vero for a couple of days..

My sis used to live just north of Orlando, so they took us around on the weekends.. now they moved to Alabama.. how inconsiderate!

Sometimes we stay in a studio for Fri and Sat and then move to a one bedroom for the rest of the week. That makes the move minimal. Hubby still does not like moving at all, he says it breaks up the trip too much. Too bad because we need more points and that isn't going to happen soon!!!!! Oh well. We may be doing more weeks just in stuidos to save up points (we are in constant borrow from the next year mod.)

Friday and Saturday nights - especially at the front of your trip - are the ideal times to visit all those resorts you miss. The CR, the Poly, the GF, AKL. Even the Y&BC for SAB (assuming you aren't staying at BCVs). Or, saving alittle money, the moderates (I know there are a ton of POR fans who would stay there even if it wasn't about saving money). Or a Universal hotel and get FOTL at Universal if you are going there anyway.

For the frugal, getting an offsite hotel can't be beat - especially if you aren't bothering with parks the first night. We have usually flown on Saturday and I've learned I'm too tired on Saturday for big plans - so dinner and a hotel pool work fine.

As Frozenfingers has already suggested, go enjoy Universal for a Friday and Saturday night and get front of line access for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The more DVC members that do that, the more Disney will have to respond in some way to US getting "Disney's" customers. Front of Line Access is the best, especially for crowded, high point weekends.

Are you eligible to stay at Shades of Green?

We are in the process of planning a trip in October. As our flight gets into Orlando around 11pm we are going to stay at an airport hotel the first night to cut down on point usage as well as rental car fees. If that option doesn't work out, we will try SOG as we are retired military.

Last trip we did the Universal Royal Pacific, this year we will do the Hard Rock. Great for FOTL, and my kids are getting bigger and want to do a few days at Universal. We make sure we stay there first. It would be a disappointment to go from the 2 bedroom to the rooms at Universal.

We have been through this decision making process recently. We initially booked 12 nights using points - 6 OKW 1 br. followed by 6 BCV 1 br. We later called MS and booked the two weekend nights in the middle for cash with the member discount. This gave us a room cost of about $680 for the two nights, but saved us 104 points. Since you would be lucky to rent points at that low a price, we thought that would be best for us - we could then save those points for another trip.

We recently changed those reservations , though. We now have two nights garden-view at the Poly. This saved us about $200 off the previous reservation, and we get to try a new resort (for us).

This is one area where DVC has spoiled us. When I was planning our first WDW trip back in '99, I considered booking us in the value resorts but decided on moderate per reviews on Deb Will's board. I remember booking Dixie Landings at $89 an night, and wondering would it be worth so much ! Now, since DVC, we have stayed at OKW, VWL, BWV, POR several times , AKL and soon to be Poly. As you can tell, our expectations have definitely been raised.

We don't like to move so we just stay put if a Friday or Saturday is in our plans. That was part of what we looked at when we figured out how many points were right for us.

Cast another vote for the the Swan and Dolphin.
If you have AP's the rates are great.

We are kind of getting into the 6 night trip mode. It only costs 1 night on week end points and we still get our fill. We leave on Sat night and come back the following friday. It seems to work for us. DH HATES moving too. I can't say I'm crazy about it either even though I like to save points.

Originally I had us booked in a studio for 8nights
When we changed to a 1B I reduced our stay to 6 nights - checking in on Sat, leaving on Fri
That 2nd wknd (Fri & Sat) we're staying at MILs winter home about 45mins away

We usually fly in on Saturday so the earliest we would get to the resort would be around 6:00 pm. Therefore we will stay off-site. We like the Hawthorn Suites on Palm Parkway. The rate is usually around 99 or 109. The suite usually has two queen beds in the BR and a separate hide a bed in the living room with a full kitchen. The hot breakfast is usually limited to eggs, meat and potatoes along with the other stuff one finds at a continental breakfast. Plus I earn .5 flight credit on Southwest. I also have used the AP rate to stay at another resort for one night.
