Without getting into all the details on pricing and such, I am currently booked at French Quarter for 9 nights at the end of July - Aug 2014 I can upgrade to AKL for an extra $500. (and yes, I'm sure the pricing is right) :) Is it worth it?

I mean we typically don't spend much time at the resort at all. The odd swim in the pool and to sleep and change clothes. We are generally at the parks or Downtown Disney. We stayed at FQ last trip and loved the small size and convenience of it. Have eaten at Boma more than once and love the feel of that resort.

Thoughts? Advice? Suggestions??

THANK YOU

We have stayed at POFQ 5 times now. We love the size of the resort. That being said, we are starting to branch out and stay at other resorts for the experience. If you can stay at AKL for 9 nights for only $500 more I would do it.

We have stayed at both. We loved the AKL!! The kids loved to explore and watch the animals so much we spent an afternoon just at the resort! They also liked POFQ. They liked how small it was and the river. I would go to AKL just for the experience! It was a beautiful place to stay!

AKL is our fav non-park resort, so for us it probably wouldn't be worth the extra $500 for just a room/bed. POFQ (our fav mod) is a great room/bed/parks resort. AKL is not. But that's just us...

Then again, if you've never stayed at AKL, upgrading for only $500 doesn't seem so bad. However, I would justify the cost by spending more time enjoying the resort.

Good luck.

Loved them both, but if I could afford to stay at AKL over POFQ I would. We love AKL - the pool, rooms, food court, and resort appeals to us, The smell alone when walking into the lobby is amazing.

I am on the side of saving money personally!! If you have an extra $500 to throw around, then use it as cash at Disney World for souvenirs, extra food, etc.

That is just what I would do :) although AKL is tempting. We are planning our stay at POR; we've never stayed there before. I've stayed at FQ and I loved it!!

Good luck with your decision :wizard:

We've stayed at AKL, Savannah view and hated the resort ... Didn't like the long walk to the Lobby....

We saw very few animals from our room, long horned steer, small deer at a distance, one flamingo... Not worth the the money ...

POFQ... Be our 4th trip there and over 45 other trips to various deluxes....big fans of WL but like the rates at POFQ for longer stays... queen beds, boat ride to DTD...

When you're at AKL, it's a bus everywhere... Hated that!!

Huge AKL/V fan...a home resort of ours, too. Honestly, if you don't spend that much time at the resort, I think it makes more sense to save the $500 and keep your reservation at POFQ.

We've never stayed at POFQ, but we loved AKL. If the extra cost is doable, I'd go with AKL. The resort is beautiful, the buses are great (IMO), and Boma is right there for a great TS meal :goodvibes. Good luck deciding.

If you want to stay at AKL look into renting points, it will be cheaper than POFQ:cool1:

For 9 nights? Split stay for sure! That's what we did. I would do 5 nights pofq and 4 savannah view AKL.......best of both worlds and its so easy to do.

I recommend saving the money and staying at FQ. AKL does nothing for my family, and it just seems so far away from the things that interest us. You could take the money you're saving and treat yourself to something nice while in Disney :):) It's a choice based on what you and the people you are traveling with are interested in.

We always stayed at POR because we are a family of 5 and trying to budget. We absolutely love it there. My husband likes the quiet walks and less of a crowd when staying there. It also has a fantastic quick service area that the deluxe resorts don't have. I've also stayed at AKL with 5 when my youngest was a baby and it is so beautiful! It's a tough choice. We again stayed at Kidani in the villas with DVC and it's amazing! I would make the choice by funds. If you think you'll be eating at your resort counter service for much of the trip, stick with POFQ (although not sure if there cs is as good as POR??) and if that is not going to matter much, head over to AKL! Either choice, you'll be happy.

I would switch to AKL for $500. It's a beautiful resort and we just love it there. Can't say a bad thing about it. Lobby is breathtaking. Gift shop is unique. Pool is awesome. Busses don't share with any resort and it really isn't a long ride to the parks. Animals are fun to watch.

I just stayed there in July for the first time and fell in love! It is an amazing resort, I couldn't wait to come back to the room everyday and see what animals would be waiting for us. We were lucky and got a great room near the lobby on the Arusha savannah so I never had far to walk (although that has never bothered me at BW). POFQ is by far my favorite moderate but the experience of being at AKL is so unique I couldn't imagine passing it up.

We love POFQ (moderate) but for $500 we'd jump all over the AKL offer. However we would have to hit POFQ at least one morning for beignets!!!! ::yes::

I'll second this. :thumbsup2

Since you spend a lot of time at Downtown Disney and not at the resort much, I'd suggest POFQ for your needs.

Personally, I'd choose AKL though. I stayed at POFQ last year and it was pleasant, but boring. AKL seems more exciting and I'd like to stay there on a future trip.
