Freezer spills

A while back we lost power for a day and a half. We saved and moved most of the items from our standing freezer in the laundry room. Yesterday I pulled the bottom basket out of the freezer and saw that something had thawed and spilled in the bottom presumably during the power outage. Now it's a frozen mess. How can I clean this up? Warm/Hot water wasn't doing much for it.

Thanks!

Warm/hot water is the only thing I've found, along with a rag of some sort. It is a slow process, though. Your alternative is to defrost the freezer entirely - once it stops freezing it should clean up fairly quickly.

I didn't want to defrost the last time something spilled in my freezer, so I dipped a rag in hot water and put it over one small spot. When that softened up I was able to get a little of it up, then I moved on to the next area. It was slow, though!!!!

Not sure what to tell you, but I can sympathize. DH (D doesn't = dear) put a bottle of wine in the freezer two nights ago. I told him not to do it because he would forget about it (not the first time this has happened). Well, of course he forgot so when I got up the next morning I found a mostly frozen bottle of wine, except for what had exploded out and got all over everything in the freezer. And who do you think had to clean it up? If I waited for DH to do it it would be there forever, no joke.

Oh my gosh! That sounds just like something my "D"H would do too! Fortunately for him this freezer spill was not his fault.

I think I'll try the slow hot water process, DVCLiz.

Thanks to you both!
