Freeport VS day at sea

Trying to decide on a 4 day cruise, one of the main points is which would we enjoy more Freeport or a day at sea. We have cruised before and have been to Nassau. We are not big excursion people and prefer just to walk around do some shopping and take in the local history. The last time in Nassau we found a little out of the way Museum that we loved.

We have never been to Freeport and we do enjoy seeing new places, however we do have two children (3&5) and it looks like they have lots of fun things for them to do at the kids clubs during the day at sea. what things are there for adults to do, we are really not into trivia and napkin folding which is what we have experienced on other cruises. Nor are we likely to go to a spa or sit by the pool, we would like to do something like a tour of the ship or other interesting tour.

Thanks for your opinions,

allison

My sons and I really enjoyed Freeport, thats where we did the Dolphin Encounter. But Port Lucaya is very pretty. Beautifully painted homes in crayola colors and small shops. There is also a large hotel right across from the shopping area. This is about 10 mins away by cab. Would you feel comfortable leaving the kids onboard in the club and exploring on your own for two hours?

I enjoy the days at sea. I like sitting on the veranda as the ship sails. You will find many opinions on the subject but many will agree if you want to enjoy the ship with fewer people aboard a day in port may be the best day to do this as many people will be off of the ship.

I would opt for the day at sea... kick back, suck down some rum and cola's, enjoy the ship... Freeport was just another tourist stop... same old shops, same old hustles... port ain't all that pretty to look at either...

I will also add that it may not matter what you decide. When we booked last fall our four day cruise was to have a day at sea. They have since changed things and we now have a stop in Freeport

WE ALSO BOOKED THE BEGIN OF THIS YEAR AND OUR CRUISE LEAVES ON SEPT. 22. WE FOUND OUT ABOUT A MONTH OR SO AGO THAT WE WILL HAVE A DAY AT FREEPORT AND WE BOOK WITH A DAY AT SEA.
I THINK THAT THE LETTER SAID THAT ALL THE 4 DAY CRUISES WOULD HAVE THE FREEPORT STOP NOW. BUT I COULD BE MISTAKEN THOUGH.

Ours (8/25) was also supposed to have a day at sea, but was changed to Freeport. Not many people got off the ship there. My son and i did, just to walk around and look at the ships in port. but we wern't up for a cab ride to who knows where. They have also suspended all ship tours on the 3/4 day cruises. It sounded like there was still a kitchen (?) tour on the seven day.

We're just back from the 9/1 4 day on the Wonder and we did have the day at sea. Only problem I could see was that, since everyone is on the ship, some things did get crowded... pools, movies, etc.

If they changed the day at sea to Freeport once you were on the ship, maybe it was because of rough seas? As slow as they go during the day at sea (not much more than 6 knots), I would much rather sit in port for a day than wallow around on a rough ocean! Just a guess......
