We recently recieved the letter mentioning the Freeport change. We have cruised on RC before but our 4 day Wonder 10/20 cruise is our first DCL trip. Does anyone have any ideas regarding this stop and things to do? We've found that relaxing beats the rush for booking excursions but would like to hear some thoughts frrom those that have been in Freeport.
Thanks for any suggestions you might have

I really enjoyed our day at Freeport. We got off the ship, caught a taxi to Lucaya. It's a great little open air shopping area with lots of shops and straw market type things. It was very clean and the people were delightful. Great little cabanas selling fresh mango and fresh mango daquiris....yum. Lots of rum samples, too!

There is a great beach by the resort....beautiful white sand and crystal blue water. It was not crowded at all when we were there. I didn't know about the beach, so we weren't prepared for beach activities.....I would definitely spend some time there if we ever go back!
I found Freeport much nicer than the stop at Nassau!!

we created our own excursion through UNEXCO ... they offer the dolphin encounter ... we were too late to book that excursion (the dolphin encounter) so I called UNEXCO directly and found that they offered a "swim with the dolphin" program in addition to the dolphin encounter. I must say ... it was an incredible experience ... it's a little on the pricey side at $139/pp but is was worth every penny ... you get about 45 minutes of actual time in the water with 2 dolphins (6 people in the water at a time ... limited to 12 people total!) there isn't much else to see in Freeport and if it weren't for that I would enjoy the time on board the ship instead of disembarking ... considering the 4 day is way too short ... at least it was for us!

taxi fare (we went April of this year) ... was $5 per person, each way!

If you enjoy snorkeling the excursion through DCL to Treasure Reef is wonderful. We (DH, DD-15, DS-13 and myself) took the morning snorkeling excursion during our April cruise. It is an enjoyable trip to Lucaya by bus. The boat ride to the snorkeing area is quite short - the area is right offshore. And the snorkeling was fabulous!!! Much better than on Castaway Cay. You are back to the ship by lunch time.

We also booked the Dolphin Encounter on our own through UNEXSO (Underwater Explorers Society) We wanted to include our 2 yr old and DCL (I don't think) allows for them to go. Besides that it saved us $$! It's $59 per person(Under 6 is free...DCL charges from 3yrs up) ...plus cab fare ($5 per person each way...we bargained to let the 2 yr old go free on a lap)
We didn't swim with the Dolphins because I think you have to be 12 to do that...our oldest is only 11. We still were able to get in the water with the Dolphins and we had a wonderful time! I would recommend UNEXSO's program to anyone!
I'd be happy to give you more info if you're interested.

Lisa :)

Thanks MindydLeon! We were planning on staying onboard, but maybe we'll take the "self-package" excursion to Lucaya so DD8 and DS6 can get in some extra "sand time." (We're definately staying on the ship in Nassau)

have fun ... (i know you will) ... i'm so jealous ... i wish i was going again soon! pinching my pennies and keeping my fingers crossed and hopefully will be back on board within the year! :D
