I have read somewhere that if you take your own water bottle into the parks, counter service restaurants will fill them for free. Can anyone verify that this is true? If so, how does it work? Thank you for any help!

True.
Just ask for a cup of ice water, no water bottle needed, but you can fill it with the ice water.

I find that it varies on who is behind the counter. Some will fill the bottle for you and others won't for sanitary reasons I'm assuming. In that case I just ask for a couple cups of ice water and pour it into my bottle myself.

CMs at CS Restaurants will give you a cup of ice water - or as many as you request. I don't think they can fill a personal container due to health codes.

I didn't know that they actually filled water bottles. We just ask for cups of ice water at the counter service when we get thirsty.

They will not fill your water bottle but they will give as many cups of water that you want

For health code reasons they should not be filling them behind the counter but they will give you free cups of ice water. We always fill our water bottles with ice first thing in the morning and they are usually starting to melt by the time we get to the park. By lunch we have usually gone through what we filled in the morning so we grab ice water at our QS lunch and re-fill. We always have cold water and save a fortune on bottled water.

FYI - I might just be spoiled with yummy water back home, but I think FL water tastes kinda icky. So you might want to bring flavor packets (if you use those) or even a filtered water bottle. I purchased a nice camelbac filtered one and it worked great. Great until I left it in Epcot somewhere. =(

No, you aren't picky at all. FL tap water is awful. High in Sulfur. But, the water you get at the QS locations comes from the soda machine and is filtered. Tastes good :)

Oh...QS location is the key there. I think I used drinking fountains a few times. I'm sure that's the difference. I don't drink pop anymore....just a pot of coffee in the morning and water the rest of the day, but I'm cheap and don't wanna pay for water.

Oh, it's free. It just comes from the fountain machine. Any soda machine anywhere, at least any I've ever seen, have a little button on one of the dispensers that is still water (sometimes there is a soda water button too). And it's free :)

I carried my water bottle in the parks last time.

Worked great. I filled at will at any of the walk up soda fountains in the resorts and in the parks. (I do suggest a wide mouth water bottle as it's easier to get the ice in it and you don't want to cross contaminate the dispensers)

At one place I did ask for a cup of ice and they gave me one no problem.

I had a 14oz Nalgene and then had a neoprene sleeve with a carribeaner that clipped to my belt loop. Much better than waiting in line for a cup of water and didn't have to throw out my cup if I decided to go into a show that didn't allow drinks.

As others have said, they will give you a free paper cup and fill it with ice and filtered tap water (tastes normal), but they cannot fill your own cup or any previously used cup due to health concerns.

Also, keep in mind, this is only at QS locations with access to the tap, so they won't do this at any of those snack carts around the parks. For the most part, you'll have to go into a QS location to get one and wait in line. That said, I've found that locations like Golden Oak Outpost and Refreshment Port, which are little buildings with a window where you order, also offer the free water, which is useful to know.

I did in the parks:

EP: Sunshine Seasons and Electric Umbrella? Whatever one is across from Mouse gears.
MK: Either Launching Pad or Cosmic Rays can't remember
HS: Backlot Express
AK: Resturantsaurous.

I just walked in and went over to the self serve soda fountains and got ice and then sometimes water (usually a small press button on the side of the lemonade or fruit punch spigots).

Columbia Harbor House, Sleepy Hollow in MK, All the country Counter services in Epcot, the small eateries on the street going up to Tower of Terror in DHS and two of the stands that sold Drinks is AK gave me cups of ice or ice water on request.

Then food courts in POR, POFQ, the All Stars, AoA.

Electric Umbrella is in the center of Epcot while Sunshine Seasons is inside the Land pavilion. Sounds like you may be talking about the Electric Umbrella but not 100% sure.

Similar thing with Lunching Pad and Cosmic Ray's. Cosmic Ray's is inside and has the different bays and Lunching Pad is outdoors right under the Astro Orbiter and serves mostly hot dogs.

Hope that helps!

Don't forget, you can enjoy all of the international Coke products you want for free at the Epcot tasting station! You know you want to fill your bottle with Beverly so you can drink it allll day.... ;)
