Question - we have a vacation planned with our friends for May of 2008. We booked a two bedroom villa at Wilderness Lodge and both their and my family will be staying on the same reservation/room with us. However, they are not DVC members - will they be allowed to use the free valet service since they are staying with us as our guests (same reservations)?

Yes, becuase you are DVC and they are staying with you in the same room. I will be in the same situation this month were going nov 29th BWV 2 bed with family, seperate cars, so If I'm wrong I will post back.:thumbsup2

Below is a listing from Allears.net of the Valet Parking guidelines. Please note that only the DVC Member is entitled to that perk and must present their Blue Member ID Card:

Valet parking is available at the Grand Floridian, Polynesian, Contemporary, Yacht Club, Beach Club, Boardwalk, Wilderness Lodge and Animal Kingdom Lodge resorts. Effective January 7, 2007, the charge is $10 per day plus tip. Guests need only pay for valet parking once per day at Disney resorts--show the day's valet receipt at the next resort to avoid being charged again.

Disney Vacation Club members may valet park free at the DVC resorts. Those resorts are the Boardwalk, the Beach Club and the Wilderness Lodge. Show your DVC membership card to the valet captain upon vehicle pick-up. (This should now also include AKL)

Disney Dining Experience Members may valet park free of charge at any Disney resort offering this service by showing a DDE membership card. (I believe you must also show your restaurant receipt too)

Valet parking is free of charge to all vehicles displaying a disabilties tag at Disney facilities offering valet service.

Sorry, it is not a perk for the occupants of the room, but for the DVC Member with Blue Member ID Card. The guests will be issued a parking pass and can self park in the lot, but will not be entitled to free valet.

I just had this same issue come up last week. I arrived at BWV in my car and my friend arrived about 30 min. later in hers. Her parking permit did not have the "M" on it which indicates free valet parking but mine did. I assumed that she could park at the BWV parking lot as a guest but since she was not the member she was not entitled to free valet parking.

Let me put on the flame suit!!

My sisters families joined us in a 2 bedroom and a studio last year.

As we left POP to check-in at BWV, one of my sisters rode with me while my husband rode with my BIL. As we pulled up to the valet, I showed my member card and my husband showed his member card.

I guess I thought it was legit since we were both showing up as DVC members and both wanting our car valet'd.

My other sister showed up with a handicapped hang tag (which she needs). She was not offered free valet, but was able to park in Handicap parking, and my BIL just hopped in his truck and pulled around to pick my sister up. Handicap parking at Boardwalk is quite conveniently located.

I'm curious to hear what you all think.

So how did it work out for the rest of your trip? Since valet charges are typically applied to your resort checkout bill, did any appear on the bills?

Did you continue to valet park both cars free of charge the entire stay? Was your husband always in the other car and able to present his member ID in that case?

Did your sister with the handicap state tag ever utilize the free valet? She definitely was entitled to it.....

Inquiring minds want to know, lol.

Charges did not appear on my bill. I'm pretty sure they didn't land on my sister's bill. I would have heard about it. The cars were moved a total of 3 times while at WDW, twice was our vehicle and the handicap truck, and once was just the handicap truck.

My sister that we snuck the valet on, didn't move her car so only had to tip once. I'm not sure if they asked to see their member card or not at the very end.

My sister w/disability did not use the free valet. I don't think it was ever offered to her. We didn't know the service existed until months afterward. They liked that they didn't have to tip anybody, and handicap parking is very convenient to the door. DBIL pulled around each time.

They are pretty used to having to deal with this issue. My sister had scoliosis surgery at age 11, so now at 46, her back is a total mess. To make matters worse she broke both of her feet a few months before our trip. On the scooter she looks totally normal, but is visibly disabled while walking. She can walk short distances but needs assistance in the grocery store, Wal-Mart, and the mall. She owns her own scooter, and uses it pretty often in her everyday life. I encouraged her to go to WDW and told her it was very scooter friendly. I really enjoyed seeing her zip in front of us, and be full of energy. She was the most energetic that I had seen her in years.

The cool stares from people was pretty upsetting to her. It seems like people should be able to tell that an attractive young woman with a child would not normally choose to see WDW in a scooter! I thought it would be really obvious since I outweight Sis by many pounds, had a little trouble getting around after commando touring for 5 days and chose to walk.

The few times I've taken advantage of this perk, half the time I had to show the blue DVC membership card, the other half they just check the parking pass in the window.

I just have to know! How did you get two member IDs? The wife and I have been trying to get one for each of us since we joined DVC in 99.
TIA

Really?

After we bought our resale, Disney just sent us both cards.:thumbsup2

Is this a big deal?

Anyone on the contract should get a blue card but not associate members. When we first bought resale, the lawyer didn't put my wife on the deed as we had talked about and we didn't catch it until after the closing had happened. He refused to correct it unless we paid the closing again so we just added my wife as an associate since I'd be there anyway. When we bought a second contract that was totally separate, we made sure she was on it. Guess what, they sent her a blue card for the first contract as well.

Disney is nothing if not inconsistent. This will likely always be a moving target with some nonmembers getting the perk and some members having to fight to get the charge taken off. I've scanned my card and put it on my PDA. While someone prominent here suggested it wouldn't work, I've tried it several times and it worked fine for discounts and valet on every attempt. I did have my card in my wallet but just wanted to see what would happen.

Big deal no LOL. But we have tried ( about every 1.5 years ) to get two cards. We're both on the contract and keep being told that they will only issue 1 per contract. It's not that big a deal for us but it did take me by surprise to read you had 2.

Anything concerning valet changed when Disney outsourced it. We were asked for our blue member card every time we valet and told them we were DVC. If not we were charged the fee.

We have 2 contracts and 2 cards for each. One with the wifes name only and one with me name only per contract.

There is absolutely no excuse for DVC not providing a card for each and every owner. Call your guide or MS and ask for a supervisor.

I have to agree. My DH & I have one Master contract and one add on contract. We are both listed as owners and we each have a blue DVC membership card.

Yep, we each have a blue card as well, but DH's has no writting on it anymore!

We've talked with our rep. several times about it and keep being told by him that it's "Only one per contract". Like I said, it's no big deal, but it does bother me to hear other wise here on the boards.:confused3

It makes me wonder if your spouse is not actually on the deed. To be honest, this is only the second time I've heard this issue in the 13 years I've owned DVC going back to the Prodigy boards. As I noted, my wife even got one for a contract she's not even listed on. If you've talked to your guide and a MS supervisor, I'd simply take it up the ladder. Or you might try simply calling and asking for a replacement card for you wife without getting in to the other details and see what happens.
