free upgrade?

Hi. We are visiting WDW May 16-21 and are renting points from a wonderful DVC member. We have ressies for a studio and are looking at this as a possible preview before buying. Just wondering if sometimes complimentary upgrades to a 1BDR are given out. Has anyone had this kind of luck? I am new to this board so please don't flame me.

I haven't ever heard of any rooms being paid for with DVC points getting complimentary upgrades. I don't think they do this. But you will not be kicked out of your room for asking.

not normally, i was paying cash one time for the yc, a manager special $199 including tax, i dont know what happen to our room, but i was given a room at the bcv, to my surprise, i was assigned to a 2 bedroom and conceirge, i guess that was my one time upgrade for the next 40 years, i should have gone right to the store and bought a lotto ticket.

i guess you can say i won the wdw lotto

Since DVC is totally different from the other resorts, upgrades are exceptionally rare.

When renovations are going on, there might be some adjustments because a smaller size room isn't available. It's not routine to upgrade just because a larger room is available --- as might happen at one of the non-DVC resorts.

Upgrading for an additional fee is possible, but I don't think that would be called upgrading but some other word. At any rate upgrading any member would be showing favortism to that member and would not be a good idea. However,like someone said on rare occasions with because of lack of space or a yellow submarine landing in the pool area it may happen.

On one occasion I was given a preferred view room (not Boardwalk view) at the BWV when I had booked a standard view room. This same thing happened to my sister. This is as close to an upgrade as I have ever had.

Upgrades are very rare and usually occur when the resorts are not very full and when when some of the units are out of commission like at BWV when they were doing all the maintenance on the exterior. Unlike some timeshares, you can't ask for one and have any chance of success or pay for an upgrade.
